Summary Description

Under general supervision of the Director of Public Works or his/her designee, performs public education and enforcement of the City’s water conservation program; performs work in the field driving a City vehicle; employee is expected to perform within the City of Ceres established procedures and guidelines and only receives occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise; This position requires working irregular hours and weekends.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This position is specific to driving a City water conservation car, but could include, more routine tasks and duties listed below. Employees are expected to perform within the City of Ceres established procedures and guidelines. Employees will only receive occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1.       Enforce City Water Conservation rules and regulations.
2.       Assist in public education of water conservation.
3.       Handle complaints and answer questions from the public.
4.       Issue warnings and fine notices for water use violations.
5.       Perform water audits, issue water conservation kits and supplies as needed.
6.       Maintain daily activity logs.
7.       Manage city emails and requests, work orders and related database.
8.       Attend training sessions for program implementation.
9.       Assist in other areas as needed.
10.       Perform related duties as required.

Education/Training:

Possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate.

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience:

One (1) year of experience in customer service, code enforcement or public presentation work Code enforcement.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision of the Director of Finance and/or the Assistant Director of Finance, to supervise the Utility Billing Division operations and personnel of the Department of Finance; to maintain a system of records therefor in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles and approved office methods; to develop periodic and annual financial and operating reports for use by the City, State, and others; and to do related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Supervise all utility billing functions including, but not restricted to, meter readings, bill preparation, account collections and accounting of payment received, servicing customer inquiries, and handling of new accounts.

Select, train, supervise and evaluate assigned staff including subordinate supervisors.

Develop and implement the goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities of the division.

Interpret policies and procedures; and recommend changes as necessary.

Prepare staff report, studies and analyses; and make presentations before the North San Mateo County Sanitation District Board, City Council, the public and other agencies.

Prepare utility billing financial and operating reports.

Perform cash audit and determine adequacy of internal accounting controls on cash handling procedures.

Prepare and administer the Division's budget.

Manage and participate in administration of contracts relating to division operations.

Participate in and represent the Finance Department as a member of various committees.

Respond to non-routine customer service inquiries and complaints.

Work with IT staff and contractors to acquire, develop and modify computer applications related to the division's activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of administration, effective supervision and personnel management; practices and procedures related to the accountings for cash receipts and the maintenance of customer accounts. Principles and practices of accounting principles for governmental enterprises and utilities, auditing, billing, collections, receivables, and internal control for cash receipts; principles and capabilities of computerized accounting and utilities systems.

Ability to:  Supervise and coordinate the work of subordinate personnel and provide on-the-job training; prepare complete and accurate reports; analyze a variety of data processing output and statistical reports; lean and apply pertinent legal requirements and departmental policies; operate office machines; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in working with and/or maintaining accounting systems (desirably with some involvement with utility operations), three years of supervisory responsibility.

Education: Graduation from college or equivalent with a degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field. Experience may be substituted for the college requirement on a basis of two years experience for each year of college required.

THE POSITION

The Recreation Division of the Community Services Department works within a business model that recovers program costs. The successful Recreation Supervisor candidate is a dynamic, effective leader with advanced knowledge of programming, budgeting, and implementing a variety of recreation services and activities who demonstrates creative problem solving and excellent customer service skills.  Recreation Supervisors exercise considerable judgment in day to day decision making with the scheduling and operations of recreation activities and programming. Recreation Supervisors work in various community services areas including: programming, day camps, community center operations, field allocations, marketing, contract classes, volunteers, and/or special events. Some Recreation Supervisors work within the Department’s  food, beverage, and hospitality facilities located in Aqua Adventure Waterpark and the City’s sports complex. All positions supervise part-time staff and establish positive working relationships with the public and community groups. Recreation Supervisors are accountable for ensuring programs meet the quality and service standards established by the Department and for keeping current on developments in the field and making recommendations to expand and improve activities and programs.  

The position will be filled  at either the Assistant Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Supervisor I level, based on the successful candidate’s career experience  and  knowledge.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Plan, organize and manage diverse recreation programs and activities that may include day camps and special events; coordinate activities with community groups, other  City departments, or through partnerships
- Interview, train, schedule, assign work, discipline and exercise functional supervision of seasonal or temporary employees and volunteers
- Reserve, schedule, and coordinate maintenance of facilities, grounds, fields, parks, or shared space

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

I: annual salary range is $80,246.40 - $97,656.00, hourly range is $38.58 - $46.95

Electrician

NOTE: The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Electrician classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay. 

     The City of San José is accepting applications for the position of Electrician I/II. Written exams are conducted monthly. Candidates passing all phases of the examination process will be placed in a qualified candidate group to be considered for filling present and future vacancies. 

     Electrician I is the entry level class in the Electrician series. Incumbents are provided with training and experience to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the full range of installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Electrician I incumbents must complete training, be appointed and pass probation as an Electrician II to retain employment. Electrician II is the journey level class in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment, working independently under general supervision.

     Electricians are responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating high and low voltage/amperage electrical components, systems and equipment including: locating problems; determining appropriate courses of action; and coordinating repairs with affected parties. They design, fabricate, and install electrical systems and components and install wiring and electrical equipment, ensuring code compliance. Electricians review work orders, maintain activity logs, prepare requisitions and obtain approval for various projects. Duties may also include purchasing electrical supplies, including: filling out paperwork; coordinating purchases; and, choosing vendors. They are responsible for responding to occasional emergencies, evaluating and taking required actions and determining if support is needed.

     Electricians may perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

     Electricians in the Department of Transportation are responsible for the ongoing maintenance and improvements of San Jose's streetlight and traffic signal systems. Responsibilities may include installation and maintenance of fiber optic cable, speed radar signs, video detection, traffic monitoring cameras, and 'smart' LED streetlights.

     Electricians at the Airport are responsible for a wide range of equipment and systems in a 24/7/365 operation, including repair, installation, operation, and maintenance. Responsibilities may include airfield/airport specific systems and equipment such as series lighting circuits, constant current regulators, airfield lighting control systems, and airfield lights. In addition, responsibilities may include interior and exterior lighting fixtures (including high mast ramp lighting, street lighting, parking lot lighting, etc), lighting control systems, building management systems, access control systems, fire alarm systems, power management systems, building distribution systems and equipment up to 12kv, motor control equipment, baggage handling systems, emergency generators, vehicle gate operators, pump stations and fiber optics.

     Shift schedules are based upon the needs and requirements of the Airport, and may require rotation assignments or assignment to a specific shift. Weekend and holiday work may be required, and standby time may be required.

     Public Works electrician duties include: new construction, remodels, small tenant improvement projects, lighting retrofit projects, maintenance of pump stations (includes motor controls and PLC's and computerized alarm and monitoring of pumps, etc.), emergency generators, fire alarm systems, vehicle gate operators, badge access controls, lighting control systems, electrical building distribution systems and equipment up to and including 12kv, installing cat 5 and fiber optic networks and maintenance of all City buildings. They also set up temporary power for numerous special events on weekends and public address setups. PW provides standby Electricians 24/7.

     Depending upon assignment, Swing Shift, Graveyard Shift, weekend, and holiday work may be required.

     Selection Process

     The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to the Job-Specific Questions. Only the candidates whose backgrounds best match the position will be invited to proceed in the selection process.   Additional phases of the selection process will consist of one or more interviews, one of which may include a practical/writing exercise.

The practical exam has two components: an electrical diagram exercise and the construction of an electrical control project. The practical examination will include completing 3 schematic drawings (line diagrams) and constructing and completing an electrical project which will be used to rate your skill in following written directions, conduit bending, knowledge of code compliance and ability to wire various types of control circuits and devices. • This class is distinguished from the Senior Refuse Truck Diver in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

• Receives general supervision from a Refuse Supervisor, and receives technical and functional supervision from a Senior Refuse Truck Driver.

• Two years of increasingly responsible experience performing refuse collection/disposal work similar to that of a Refuse Truck Driver I with the City of Roseville.

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree.

The Recreation Department of the Town of Colma is recruiting for a part-time Senior Recreation Leader for immediate hiring who will enjoy exercising creativity, working with Children and Seniors. The Ideal candidate will be available to work year-round, a varied work schedule, including Days, Evenings and Weekends.

Senior Recreation Leaders assist Recreation Coordinators and the Recreation Manager with the Town’s daily recreation activities and programming, including supervision of recreation programs for children, adults and senior citizens. Recreation Leaders do not receive Town benefits and have an “at will” status.

You’ll enjoy duties such as:

• Planning, organizing, leading and conducting a wide variety of indoor and outdoor recreation activities at our park, playground and community centers including after-school programs, teen center, day camps, play groups, special events and senior events.
• Guiding recreation activities for children, teens and adults.
• Actively managing children’s playground activities.
• Ensuring that needed supplies and equipment are inventoried and on hand.
• Setting up and taking down recreational and facility equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skill and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

• Fifteen semester college units
• Two years of experience in a recreation field.

About this role

We are seeking energetic, creative and enthusiastic individuals to provide one-on-one assistance for children diagnosed with special needs (developmental delays, attention issues, processing challenges, sensory disorders) entering kindergarten through 8th grade. You must be able to work Monday-Friday approximately 4-8 hours a day between the hours of 7:30am-5:45pm; depending on the child’s schedule.  This is a part time, non-benefited position, 30-40 hours per week during Summer months, and 10-15 hours remainder of year. This position is limited to 960 hours in a fiscal year, July-June.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Equivalent to graduation from high school. 

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years/seasons of experience as a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor.  Previous supervisory experience is desirable.

Licenses/Certificates: Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instructor (WSI), First Aid and Safety, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Profession Rescuer and Oxygen Administration certification are required.

Knowledge of: principles, methods, and practices for organized aquatic and recreation programs; scheduling techniques for swim programs and use of recreation facilities; principles of effective supervision; psychology as it relates to the instruction of children and adults; standard office practices and procedures and the use of standard office equipment; techniques for effectively dealing with the public, both in person and over the telephone; rules and regulations applicable to swim center facilities; water filtration and chemistry.

Skill in: planning, organizing, directing and supervising swim center programs and staff; effectively supervising personnel; applying effective instruction techniques; performing standard office clerical work and basic accounting; interpreting and implementing policies and procedures; counting money; learning and adapting to changing priorities and multiple demands; effectively communicating; displaying outstanding customer service skills by providing information and assistance to customers in an effective manner; and effectively handling problems associated with the mechanical operation of the pool.

Physical Demands: The mobility to perform water rescues and swim instruction, and to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment; vision to see swimming pool and surrounding area, including underwater, and vision to read printed materials and computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

SALARY AND HOURS:

$18.45 - $19.37 - $20.34 - $21.36 - $22.42 per hour.  Part-time position paid sick leave benefit available. Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five-step scale.  Hours will range from 15-27 hours per week.  Candidates that make the eligibility list may be selected for various shifts as needed throughout the year.  Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the entire year.
