Assigned duties will include:

• Assist with new GASB pronouncement implementations and ongoing compliance with GASB pronouncements
• Analyze financial transactions and prepare monthly profit and loss reports
• Review ongoing and new fixed asset projects to determine proper accounting treatment
• Participate in the yearly fixed asset verification process
• Review surplus forms
• Posts payments and reoccurring journal entries to the City's accounting system, Financial Management System (FMS) and the Airport's billing system (PROPworks)
• Collect lost and found cash at least quarterly
• Calculate outside billing rates at least once a year
• Assist with the year-end close process and preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, including but not limited to:
  • Prepare fund lead-sheets
  • Prepare fund trial balances
  • Upload balances to Caseware (Financial Statements Software)
  • Map accounts in Caseware
  • Prepare fixed asset footnote/reconciliations
  • Prepare schedule of transfers for consolidation
  • Upload audit schedules
  • Post the signed ACFR and other financial reports as needed to the Airport's website
• Assist with the State Controller reports
• Collaborate with the Finance and Budget teams
• Assist with updating policies and procedures as needed
• Assist with ad-hoc reports and tasks

The final candidate's qualifications and experience shall determine the actual salary. In addition to the starting salary, employees in this classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay, which is included in the range below.

The Accountant I salary range is $84,630.00 - $102,931.92 annually.

The City of Berkeley is now accepting applications for Assistant Inspector in the Building & Safety Division of the Planning Department! This is a temporary, two-year position with an option for a third year upon approval by the Building Official, once certain criteria and milestones are met during the initial two years.

The Assistant Inspector will learn, in phases, every aspect of the building inspection process under the tutelage of the Building Inspection Section and Permit Service Center staff. This training will include learning and understanding the building permit review and issuance process, gaining and cultivating good customer service skills, studying and learning how to enforce the California and City of Berkeley Building Standards Codes, and acquiring proper building inspection techniques.

Upon approval from the Building Official, the Assistant Inspector will have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills by performing inspections in the field throughout the City of Berkeley as allowed by State regulations and under the guidance of a Building Inspector as assigned. These inspections will gradually increase in scope and difficulty as new skills and knowledge are acquired and confidence grows. It is expected that the Assistant Inspector will acquire an ICC Residential Building Inspector (ICC B1) certification by the end of year one and an ICC Commercial Building Inspector (ICC B2) certification by the end of the two-year position. At the end of the term and upon Building Official approval, the Assistant Inspector will have the option of promoting into the role of Building Inspector I (certified).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and:

1. Two years of full-time paid experience in one of the following: 
   • Building, civil, or architectural design drafting;
   • Building, housing, or home inspection;
   • Code enforcement;
   • Permit processing;
   • Performing carpentry, electrical, heating and refrigeration, plumbing, or similar work; OR
2. Three years of full-time experience in support of building inspections, housing inspections, or code enforcement; OR
3. Completion of two years of education in a recognized college or university with completion of 12 semester or 16 quarter units in any of the following or similar areas: civil or structural engineering, construction technology, design, inspection technology, architectural drafting, mechanical or, electrical engineering.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill job responsibilities. When driving on city business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of activities in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and related equipment within City facilities; performs related work as required. An example of duties are:

• Performs daily inspection and preventive maintenance of the City’s irrigation systems; identifies any safety or repair issues.
• Installs, maintains and repairs irrigation systems; changes and adjusts sprinkler heads and maintains controllers; performs repairs on field irrigation computers, controllers, pumps, wiring, valves, pipes, and sprinklers.
• Monitors soil moisture and effectiveness of irrigation systems.
• Installs backflow devices; inspects and tests as necessary to ensure proper operation; certifies devices in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Monitors and controls computerized irrigation systems.
• Works effectively with contractors on City-approved irrigation projects; seeks bids and/or estimates for proposed projects.
• Identifies, schedules, and supervises system repairs and installation of new irrigation systems; reviews plans and inspects installation of new irrigation systems; performs annual testing of systems.
• Performs Underground Service Alert (USA) markings as specified and according to accepted guidelines and requirements.
• Designs small irrigation systems.
• Plans and recommends materials needed for work projects; orders approved supplies and materials

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade

          AND

Two (2) years of responsible landscape/irrigation, public works or parks maintenance experience, including experience in design and/or maintenance of irrigation systems

License Requirements:

• A valid California Class C driver license or higher with a satisfactory driving record is required at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-to-case basis.
• A Work Zone Traffic Control Safety Certificate issued by the International Municipal Signal Association (I.M.S.A.), or successful completion of the Traffic Control Technician-CA State Specific Training Course thru the American Traffic Safety Services Association is required within twelve (12) months of appointment.
• A certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor certificate is desirable.
• Possession of a Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers Certificate from either the American Water Works Association (AWWA), or the American Backflow Prevention Association (ABPA), or the Northern California Backflow Prevention Association (NCBPA), or equivalent is required within twelve (12) months of appointment.

Salary Range:
Five (5) Steps: $26.43 - $32.12/ hour ($27.48 - $33.40 / hour effective 7/1/24)

Summary:
Under supervision, performs routine semi-skilled to skilled grounds landscaping and maintenance work; performs preventive maintenance of District properties; and performs other related duties as assigned.

• Assists with planting and removing trees, shrubs and plants; prunes shrubs and trees to shape and encourage growth, using hand and power saws as assigned.
• Assists with the installation, repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.

• Operates a variety of power tools, hand tools and motor-driven equipment such as trucks and tractors.
• Loads and unloads equipment, supplies and refuse.
• Maintains daily work records, hazardous materials records and restricted pesticide-use records.

• Weekend work and rotating schedules may be required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate has experience in either of two backgrounds. The first is a background in providing journey-level clerical or technical support in the public or private sector that included interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports. Alternatively, the second is a background in providing advanced office support that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.

In addition to one of these two backgrounds, the ideal candidate is curious and enjoys learning about new systems and functions at a technical level. They appreciate when careful precision and accuracy is necessary to complete a task. The ideal candidate is open to helping with functions and tasks that they are not familiar with and will seek out resources and guidance to better understand the function and complete the task accurately. They are also proactive in identifying needs, developing and recommending solutions, and ensuring the solution is fully implemented.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience: A combination of training and experience that demonstrates that a person has obtained the required knowledge and is able to perform the essential duties of the position. A person with the following combined training and experience would typically qualify to compete in a selection process:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of increasingly responsible journey-level clerical or technical support experience which included responsibility for interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports, or advanced office support work that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.
• Equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited educational institution and two (2) years of journey-level clerical or technical support experience which included responsibility for interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports, or advanced office support work that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.

• Valid California motor vehicle driver's license and good driving record

THE POSITIONS

The Mechanic is a journey level classification in the Mechanic series. The Mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures.

The Senior Mechanic is an advanced journey and lead level position classification in the Mechanic series and may be distinguished from those in the Mechanic class by the broader range of responsibilities and leading a crew. Senior Mechanics provide lead direction and training to section staff.

The City of Belmont is looking for an experienced professional for the position of Budget Manager. Under general direction of the Finance Director, the Budget Manager administers a variety of complex and professional budget and financial support functions within the Finance Department, including preparation and execution of all budgets, reports, accounting records, financial forecasts. This classification is responsible for the development, maintenance, and operation of the City's Annual Budget; providing financial information and analysis to aid in executive management decision making; performs the highest level of complex budget analysis and has frequent interaction with staff and leaders of other City departments. This classification may also oversee general financial functions such as cash flow management, audit procedures, payroll processing, coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies, supervise finance professional, technical and clerical staff, and related work as assigned.  A hybrid/partially remote schedule may be approved by the department.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in finance, budgeting, or accounting work.
• The equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, or related field.
• Supervisory experience is preferred.
