The Engineering Group Manager – Facilities will oversee a diverse and talented team responsible for managing the planning, design, and construction of capital projects at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). This individual will lead the delivery of high-impact projects ranging from transit infrastructure upgrades to the improvement and rehabilitation of maintenance yards and other critical facilities. The role includes overseeing staff, consultants, and stakeholders in the successful execution of these projects, while also ensuring compliance with VTA’s overall objectives and community needs.

Ross Valley Sanitary District is seeking an Inspector excited to join our high performing team. Inspectors work with contractors, homeowners and real estate agents to ensure construction projects meet District standards while educating and providing excellent customer service to the public.

Under general supervision of the Senior Engineer, the Inspector performs advanced, complex, and critical inspections of District infrastructure. Working independently, the Inspector is responsible for ensuring compliance with District regulations and codes related to the repair of District infrastructure, construction of private sewers, and collection system pump stations. Inspectors are also responsible for ensuring safety measures are applied at job sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Check and review construction plans for construction and repair on public and private sewers.
• Perform civil, structural, mechanical, and basic electrical inspections on construction and repair on District sewer mains, and private sewer laterals performed by contractors or other agencies.
• Communicate status of work to Engineer and co-workers as appropriate.
• Check surveys and plans for accuracy and document site conditions prior to start of construction.
• Inspect construction and backfill materials in all stages of progress to ensure compliance with District specifications, standards, ordinances, and for approval of authorized construction.
• Read and interpret construction plans, documents, and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with District and regulatory standards, plans, ordinances, and specifications regarding construction methods, equipment, workmanship, and quantity and quality of materials used in the project.
• Prepare and maintain records, reports, and documentation required by regulatory agencies and District policy.
• Confer with contractors’ field representatives regarding either work or materials that deviate from plans and specifications; ensure approved corrective measures are applied.
• Verify that Cal-OSHA approved safety precautions are practiced when on construction sites.
• Perform and interpret CCTV inspections of sewer lines; interpret and evaluate CCTV inspections done by subcontractors.
• Inspect and investigate complaints and sewage discharge violations.
• Verify proper testing methodology of air, soil, and vacuum tests, and proper CCTV televising of sewer lines.
• Prepare inspection reports and field sketches of sewer locations, preliminary project layouts, and monitor that work is performed within required timelines.
• Maintain records of field observations, permits, test reports, as-built plans and prepare reports.
• Provide customer service to residents, contractors, and representatives of private/public agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience

Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of:

• Completion of the twelfth grade, or its equivalent.
• Coursework in algebra, geometry; mapping is highly desirable.
• Four years of journey-level work experience in sewer, maintenance, industrial, and/or public works construction in public agency or private sector.

Licensing, Certification, and Registration

Possession of the following licensures, certifications, and/or registrations are required:

• Ability to obtain a Grade II Collection System Maintenance Certificate from the California Water Environment Association within one year of hire.
• Must possess a valid California Driver’s License Class “C”, have a satisfactory driving record, and continue to meet District’s vehicle liability insurance company’s driving standards.

SALARY AND HOURS:

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

Foster City is looking for a fast learner with some planning or building experience to fill the position of Building Permit Technician. This is an entry-level position that can serve as the first step in establishing a career in Planning or Building services. Foster City offers a unique experience to utilize customer service and people skills while deepening your technical knowledge in the building permit process. 

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree or completion of technical courses in building codes or inspection principles or techniques is desirable. ICBO Permit Technician Certification is highly desirable.

Experience: Two (2) years experience working in a building or planning department, with six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in computerized building permit applications processing. 

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment.
• ICBO Permit Technician Certification is required within the first full year of employment with the City in this position

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Community Development Department will make the hiring decision.
