The Finance Department monitors the fiscal operations of the City of Albany and coordinates the preparation and publication of the biennial operating budget, midyear budget review, debt issuance, annual update of the master fee schedule, annual financial statements, development of five-year revenue  and expenditure forecasts, and cost analyses of labor contracts.

The San Mateo County Controller's Office is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Controller's Division Manager for the Finance & Administration Division.

The person hired for this position will manage the Finance & Administration Division and provide staff support, financial guidance, administration, and leadership within the Controller's Office.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration or a related field.

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience performing a wide variety of administrative, financial, or managerial duties in a large, complex public agency including at least one year of direct experience managing and/or supervising an accounting or auditing function related to assigned division.

About the Position

The Public Works Maintenance Worker I is an entry-level classification in the Maintenance Worker series. Assigned duties in this classification are routine tasks requiring no experience or limited experience. Employees at this level perform a limited range of duties under immediate supervision in accordance with established guidelines and procedures and are not expected to perform with the same independence of supervision and judgment on matters related to Town guidelines and procedures as Level II/III.

Employees at this level receive immediate supervision from a manager designated by the City Manager and functional supervision from higher level Maintenance Workers. Incumbents may provide limited direction to less experienced employees in this classification or to seasonal workers.

We are seeking a knowledgeable and results oriented Plan Check Supervisor who will be responsible for staff oversight, assigning, reviewing, organizing, and participating in the work of the Plan Check Section staff in the Building Division of the Community Development Department.

Plan check functions include ensuring permits are issued only for those plans that meet all state and local codes regulating life-safety, quality of life, energy conservation, and structural safety standards. This position is responsible for the more technical and complex plan check tasks and serves as a technical resource to staff.

Accountant I

This is the entry-level classification in the Accountant Series. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the II level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Accountant II

This is the full journey-level classification in the series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the I-level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Successful performance of the work requires thorough knowledge of governmental accounting practices and procedures, fund accounting, and fiscal management.

The positions in the Accountant class series are flexibly staffed. Accountant I positions have the opportunity to advance to the Accountant II level, subject to management approval and the employee’s ability to (i) perform the full range of duties assigned to the Accountant II level, and (ii) acquire the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to meet the minimum qualifications for the Accountant II level of the series.
