What You’ll Do

• Provide excellent customer service for the Fire Prevention and Fire Administration divisions
• Manage calendars of multiple inspectors, schedule inspections, and charge appropriate fees
• Perform a variety of general clerical duties, including filing, photocopying, processing of mail, supply ordering, scanning, and answering a multi-lined telephone system
• Process invoices for payments and enter data/information in the preparation of reports, including setting up of new vendors and reviewing statements
• Assist with website updates
• Process special event permit applications, prepare invoices for permit fees, collect fees, and issue permits
• Provide information and assistance regarding public education to the general public
• Update and maintain a variety of forms
• This position will occasionally lend administrative support to other divisions within the department when needed

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team in this newly created classification.  You will maintain fire apparatus and department vehicles for the communities of Belmont, Foster City, and San Mateo. Who We Are

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department is a full-service agency that serves the cities of Belmont, Foster City, and San Mateo. The Department serves nearly 164,000 residents daily, with a daytime population of around 230,000. The Department is responsible for nine fire stations, deploys ten front line type 1 fire engines, and two aerial tiller trucks. The Department is partnered with the State of California for mutual aid deployment. Additionally, the Department participates in the San Mateo County mutual aid program including hazardous materials and water rescue response, helping to secure a million people daily. What You’ll Do

• Perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered apparatus, vehicles, hydraulic systems for aerial ladders, and other like equipment.
• Accept assignments received in the form or oral or written communications.
• Determine the nature and extent of needed repairs, prioritize them, and perform necessary repairs.
• Inspect all department vehicles to ensure they meet proper safety protocols and are in standard working order.
• Maintain all vehicles to ensure safe working order for all employees.
• Perform regular servicing and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and apparatus including performing tune-ups, lube, oil, filter, Inspection, and chassis lubrication.
• Diagnose, service, maintain such things as: fire pumps, relief valves, and other control of plumbing equipment (proper certification required).
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, power train components, transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, hydraulic and pneumatic brake systems, steering and suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Perform welding and fabricating work when applicable.
• Operate all equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Perform routine shop maintenance and clean-up and dispose of hazardous materials according to established procedures.
• Keep records of work assignments for bookkeeping and tracking purposes.
• Potentially respond to unanticipated emergencies to make temporary and/or permanent repairs in the field.

Central County Fire Department (CCFD) serves the Cities of Burlingame and Millbrae and the Town of Hillsborough. The Department serves a population of 66,045 from six fire stations across a service area of approximately 15 square miles. CCFD is supported by 91 FTEs and a FY2023-24 operating budget of $33.14 million. The Fire Marshal reports to the Deputy Fire Chief and oversees the Prevention and Preparedness Division supported by 7 team members.
 
CCFD is seeking a well-regarded professional in the regulatory community who is an outstanding communicator and relationship builder capable of easily establishing credibility with a wide range of audiences. Three years of experience as a fire inspector or as a company officer performing fire prevention inspections and possession of an AA/AS degree will be considered qualifying. A California Fire Prevention Officer Certificate is required. A Bachelor’s degree is desirable.

Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2024 through June 30th 2025.

Cadets must have a valid EMT certification, proof of medical insurance and a valid California driver license in order to apply.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Community Development department is responsible for ensuring a sustainable and vibrant community that supports a high quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors. It includes the Building, Planning and Housing divisions, and core services include building permits, plan check, inspections, affordable housing administration and housing initiatives, as well as long-range planning and development review. The Building Division is responsible for managing the building permit, plan check and inspection processes for compliance with all applicable State laws, local municipal codes and related policies involving building construction, which requires a high level of customer service with the public and coordination within and across departments and agencies.

THE POSITION

The Building Official oversees the development of programs, projects, operations, and services of the Building Division, and is a part of the Community Development management team. This position will manage a 13-member team, including a Permit Manager, Building Permit Technicians, Plan Check Engineer, and Building Inspectors, and will receive general direction from the Assistant Community Development Director or the Community Development Director. Successful performance in this role requires professional and technical skills in the core functional areas of permitting, plan checking and building inspections, as well as knowledge of public policy and municipal services, and excellence in communication and leadership. The individual must be able to assess the current needs of the department and look for innovative ways to help the department advance to improve service delivery and meet the changing needs of the community. This will require guiding modifications to the City’s land management permitting system (Accela) to improve processes, enhance customer service and monitor data.

With the adoption of the General Plan Update in 2016 and, most recently, the Housing Element zoning-related changes, the City is expected to see physical change as plans come to fruition. A key priority for this position will be overseeing the building permit process for a diverse range of projects from tenant improvements to new single-family residential construction to hotels to large-scale, comprehensive planned mixed-use campuses. Currently, the City has approximately 775 residential units and 260,000 square feet of life science uses under construction, with over 2,000 residential units, two hotels and more than 1.8 million square feet of commercial square footage approved, but not yet under construction, along with a number of large development projects currently under review. TITLE: Facilities Technician
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Non-Exempt (Full-Time)

PAY RANGE: $31.01 - $41.35 hourly per CBA ($64,500 - $86,008 estimated annual)

JOB SUMMARY: The Facilities Technician reports to the Assistant Manager, Facilities and is responsible for providing building maintenance services at the District facilities in accordance with established standards and procedures.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on all facilities according to manufacturers’ specifications and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Perform basic facility repairs including painting, carpentry, plumbing, heating and cooling (HVAC), hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Complete daily work orders in a timely fashion in accordance with District standards.
• Respond to facility-related emergencies 24/7 during assigned periods in rotation.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
• Perform scheduled maintenance, provide emergency response services and make repairs, and repair tools and equipment and monitor building maintenance contracts.
• Ensure all maintenance and repair activities are recorded, organized, and complete. Records must be readily available for reference, audit, and quality control.
• Collaborate with District departments to obtain work scope information, discuss options, collect job details and estimate labor and material costs relating to work order.
• Inspect and report on functional operation of buildings, grounds and related facility systems including: heating and cooling systems, fueling and lubrication systems, storm, plumbing, potable water, sewer and industrial waste systems, fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems, electrical power and lighting systems, in-ground hydraulic lift systems, bus parking designation markings, roofing systems, bus exhaust evacuation systems, roll up access doors and roll up fire doors, and environmental protection systems.
• Maintain clear and accurate records of maintenance tasks performed and status of District facilities.
• Develop and maintain a spare parts inventory of basic maintenance hand and power tools.
• Maintain open communications with other departments; develop and maintain effective internal relationships. Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Must participate in weekend and holiday on-call rotation.
• Safely operate a variety of maintenance vehicles.
• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one’s self, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION: Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Manager, Facilities, who establishes goals and objectives and evaluates performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Three (3) years full-time industrial building/facility maintenance experience, or a combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
• Must have valid California driver’s license with a safe driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• General experience troubleshooting electrical systems, heating and cooling (HVAC) systems, plumbing, and hydraulic systems.
• Able to work safely in different kinds of weather conditions and workspace environments.
• Able to safely lift 50lbs and climb/work on ladders and other equipment.
