THE DEPARTMENT & DIVISION
The Department of Public Works (DPW) is responsible for maintenance activities along approximately 92 miles of public right-of-way. It strives to improve, develop, and maintain public infrastructure essential to the safety, mobility, and quality of life for Orinda citizens. The DPW operates with an approximate annual operating budget of $5 million and has 17 staff members. The Department also administers a CIP budget of approximately $14 million. DPW’s organizational structure consists of two divisions: Engineering Services, and Maintenance & Facilities Services.

The Maintenance & Facilities Division is responsible for the repair and improvement of city-owned public infrastructures including stormwater drainage, roadway, traffic, and pavement, and for coordinating with vendors and contractors on large maintenance and landscaping projects. THE JOB
The Maintenance and Facilities Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that municipal buildings and public facilities are maintained to high standards, remaining safe and functional for employees and the public. The Superintendent will oversee a direct staff of two supervisors, up to eight indirect reports, and the Division’s annual budget. This role involves managing contract and project activities, including multi-year park and landscape maintenance contracts (currently with MCE corporation), multi-year janitorial services, facilities maintenance projects in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and long-term maintenance and repair plans for city-owned buildings, streets, storm drain systems, parks, trees, and landscaping. The Superintendent will coordinate with City departments and external contractors; assess and prepare contract documents; participate in vendor selection; administer contracts and evaluate contractor performance; and review and approve billings. Responsibilities also include programming building maintenance, prioritizing tasks, managing safety trainings, coordinating emergency responses, and ensuring regulatory compliance, including adherence to ADA accessibility regulations. Under the direction of the Director of Public Works, the Superintendent will coordinate activities and operations to allocate resources effectively. The Position

The City of Hayward is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer - Water and Wastewater [Formal Title: Senior Utilities Engineer] with a water and/or wastewater background to supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the activities of the Utilities Division. DEFINITION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The City of Livermore is currently accepting applications to fill three (3) Water Resources Instrument Control Technician vacancies in the Public Works Department.

THE POSITION

The Water Resources Instrument Control Technician installs, operates, maintains, calibrates, and repairs computer hardware, process instrumentation, and telemetry equipment; de-bugs, modifies, and customizes software; modifies, maintains, and repairs all components of a programmable logic controller (PLC) based supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems/distributed control systems; and performs other duties as assigned.

Examples of duties and responsibilities may include:

• Installs, calibrates, programs, maintains, and repairs instruments, PLC based system/distributed control system components, meters, analyzers, recorders, control and feed systems, computers, monitors, printers, transducers, microprocessors, and data transmission systems
• Maintains and repairs electronics, electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, laboratory and safety equipment including gas detection, alarm systems, pH and DO meters;
• Analyzes and modifies computer programs to optimize plant operations and operator convenience
• Assists system users in solving data and systems problems and suggests alternative methods of operation

Join the City of Berkeley's Planning and Development Department in its effort to protect the health, safety, and welfare of citizens by enforcing building codes and regulations. As a Certified Building Inspector I or II, you will perform skilled inspection work in the enforcement of building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, zoning and related codes and regulations that govern new building and housing construction, additions, alterations, repairs and use of existing buildings. This work includes resolving problems and complaints to final resolution.

These classifications differ in that the Building Inspector I works under closer supervision and performs less complex inspection work than the Building Inspector II.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and experience as specified below.

• Building Inspector I:
  • One year of full-time experience as a building inspector with a public agency, OR
  • Four years of full-time experience as a journey level carpenter, electrician, plumber, building plans examiner, public works inspector or permit specialist, OR
  • Three years of full-time experience in the building construction field as a licensed general, plumbing, electrical or mechanical contractor, OR
  • Completion of a two year AA program or equivalent in construction technology or a related field and a minimum of four ICC certificates including building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical.
• Building Inspector II:
  • Three years of full time experience in building inspection work with a public agency.

Other requirements include possession of a valid International Code Council (ICC) Commercial and Residential Building Inspector Certificate or equivalent. In addition, Building Inspector II requires possession of a valid ICC Commercial and Residential Electrical Inspector Certification or equivalent. Equivalency shall be determined by the building official in accordance with state law. Required certifications must be maintained as a condition of employment.

Incumbents in both positions must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
