The San José Fire Department's (SJFD) core mission is to serve the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention and response. This is the trainee level class in the Firefighter series, responsible for becoming proficient in the understanding of lifesaving and firefighting methods within the SJFD. Through a specific program comprised of general and specialized education, focused training including extensive hands-on experience, Firefighter Recruits will learn diverse tasks, policies, procedures and standards within the SJFD. Incumbents will learn techniques in emergency medical services, rescue work, firefighting and other emergency services. Duties may involve considerable physical exertion and potential risk to health and safety. Work is rigidly structured, highly supervised, and incumbents are continuously evaluated and receive feedback regularly. Firefighter Recruits must graduate from the Academy and be appointed to the class of Firefighter in order to retain employment in the job series.

The Security Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating organization-wide security services at Valley Water. Reporting to the Assistant Officer of Emergency, Security & Safety, this mid-management position is responsible for planning, managing, and executing strategic security initiatives to protect Valley Water's infrastructure, assets and staff, and the community. The Security Manager provides expert guidance, formulates policies, and fosters partnerships with local, county, state, and federal agencies to ensure the highest level of security preparedness. The Security Manager is entrusted with the strategic development and implementation of security programs, plans, and processes. This role requires extensive professional expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
 
 Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Plans, manages, and oversees all functions, operations, and activities of the security unit, including contract security services, physical security systems and technologies, un-housed abatement, shooter awareness program, threat and vulnerability assessments and communication protocols.
• Develops programs, strategies, and solutions for security to ensure effective planning for accomplishment of organizational objectives, safety and security for employees, the community and Valley Water’s infrastructure and assets, including water supply and distribution systems, and compliance with all applicable policies, regulations, rules, and laws.
• Develops, implements and manages strategic vulnerability and threat assessments and mitigation plans to protect water supplies, distributions systems and all District facilities from including acts of terrorism; performs vulnerability studies and analysis of disaster and security response capabilities, including Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Risk Assessment Methodology for Water Utilities (RAM-W) and Dam Assessment Matrix for Security and Vulnerability Risk (DAMSVR) assessments; assesses and determines appropriate level of security needs. 
• Leads efforts to explore new tools and technologies to improve existing physical security and add security assets to new facilities and property.
• Works collaboratively and engages with appropriate social service and law enforcement agencies to address un-housed abatement in Valley Water creeks and other properties; fulfills security requests to support field work.
• Administers contracts for security and security related services; reviews and evaluates compliance of contractor services with Valley Water’s contract standards and provisions; recommends improvements as required in procedures, techniques, and training.
• Provides staff leadership, oversight, guidance, and daily management of assigned unit; develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; manages budgets and forecasts resource needs.
• Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; provides staff and performance reviews and implements discipline measures and manages the Security Office on-call program.
• Oversees, makes recommendations for, and approves the acquisition of security system hardware and software purchases.

• Establishes ongoing relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC); monitors notifications of intelligence, information and alerts from the Office of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy, Department of Transportation, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the Awareness National Security Intelligence Reports, as well as the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies and American Water Works Association.

THE POSITION

The City of Rocklin is hiring Academy Graduate Police Officers to join the Rocklin Police Department. Academy Graduate Police Officers will join the department and begin an 18-month program to earn their Basic POST certificate. An example of duties that an Academy Graduate Police Officers will perform under close supervision are:

Working Conditions

Must meet physical, psychological, and background standards established by POST as well as ongoing peace officer requirements pursuant to federal, state, and local legislation. DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Plant and Equipment Maintenance Manager, does skilled mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment in the Water and Wastewater systems; and performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Installs, replaces and repairs pumps, motors, generators, and auxiliary equipment; levels and aligns equipment to prevent vibration; installs and connects instruments, gauges, tubing, pipes, instrument panels, switches and valves; dismantles pumps, compressors, motors and generators for inspection of worn or broken parts and makes appropriate adjustments, replacements and repairs; keeps written and computerized records of repairs and maintenance services performed; furnishes Plant and Equipment Maintenance Manager with information for parts and inventory control; assists operators and maintenance personnel in the general maintenance of equipment and facilities of the Department of Water and Wastewater Resources; may be required to work under adverse conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:           The installation, operation and repair of pumps, compressors, motors, generators and related equipment; mechanical ability and skill in the use of tools and materials involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment; use of welding equipment and cutting torch; knowledge of pipe and pipe fitting installations; use of appropriate safety equipment and tools and principles of safety and accident prevention.

Ability to:       Safely diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical defects; read, understand and work from blueprints, diagrams and installation sketches; understand and follow written and oral directions; prepare reports and keep accurate records; learn and efficiently use the Department's computerized maintenance information system; instruct others in maintenance and repair of the Department's equipment and facilities; perform heavy manual labor involving lifting, carrying, kneeling, crawling and climbing; work in adverse conditions which require exposure to noise, noxious odors, gases, contact with water and/or wastewater, and risk of bodily injury; maintain different tools and equipment in the fresh water and wastewater systems; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Education:     Graduation from high school or equivalent.

The City of Lincoln is hiring for the position of Maintenance Worker I/II within the Streets Division of the Public Works Department.  Under general supervision, this position performs the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Maintenance Worker series including maintenance, construction and equipment operation work in one or more Public Works divisions; occasionally assists in the training of lower-level Maintenance Workers; and performs other related duties as required.

Maintenance Worker I

The Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is alternatively staffed with Maintenance Worker II and incumbents may advance to the higher-level after gaining experience and demonstrating a level of proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

Maintenance Worker II

The Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter performance the more complex assignments and lead responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

The Maintenance Worker I receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor.  Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision.  The Maintenance Worker II receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Performs maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and installation work in streets, water, sewers, refuse collection, parks and buildings.

• Parks and Buildings: Maintains lawns, shrubs, and trees; assists in spraying of herbicides and pesticides; cuts, sprays and removes weeds; clears brush and debris; assists with planting and maintenance of landscaped areas; installs, maintains, repairs and programs irrigation systems; cleans and maintains parks and city buildings; assists in the performance of minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and remodeling tasks.
• Solid Waste: Operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; drives to landfill site when vehicle is full and unloads material; evaluates and updates assigned routes; cleans, maintains and inspects assigned vehicles; maintains daily logs.
• Fills out reports and work orders; climbs or uses hydraulic aerial devices to top, trim, reshape, strip, treat and remove trees; operates airport fueling vehicles; responds to after-hours call-outs if assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

The Position

The Department of Public Works seeks well-qualified candidates for the position of Principal Civil Engineer. This is an amazing opportunity to join a hard-working team of results-driven professionals.

The Principal Civil Engineer plans, organizes, and directs the staff and operations of a major functional section within the Public Works Department, including engineering design, construction management, surveying, and mapping. In addition, the Principal Civil Engineer supervises professional and technical staff related to these functions and performs a variety of professional engineering tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility. The current vacancy is in the Design and Construction Management Section.

This position is a full managerial position in the Engineer series, with the following responsibilities:

• Supervise, coach, mentor, and manage performance of professional and technical staff.
• Work cooperatively with the other Divisions and Sections in the Department, including providing timely budget or cost information, as well as, working with other County Departments.
• Make recommendations to the Deputy Director on staffing-levels needed based on anticipated design projects, construction inspection, and administration needs.
• Make recommendations to the Deputy Director on staffing levels, positions, and responsibilities for the Department’s mapping tasks, map filing needs, and efficient storage of information.
• Understand, manage, and budget the funding sources that finance the different activities in the Design and Construction Management Section, including the costs associated with general drafting, counter assistance, and cost of reviewing record maps.
• Oversee and manage the budget and performance measurement requirements and reporting for the Design and Construction Management Section.
• Oversee and manage the design of infrastructure projects ensuring they meet quality standards and project goals.
• Act as the Resident Engineer on construction projects ensuring they are completed safely, on-time and on-budget and per the contract documents.
• Review competed projects with the applicable Divisions or Departments to improve on future projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

• A typical way to qualify is three years of responsible supervisory engineer experience including difficult and complex field and office work in planning, design, construction, and maintenance of a variety of civil engineering projects.

Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of civil engineering and municipal public works planning, design, construction, and administration.
• Methods and materials used in the design, construction, and inspection of varied civil engineering projects.
• Principles and practices of public administration, organization, and management.
• Principles, practices, and procedures of budget preparation, budget administration, and budget control.
