ABOUT THE ROLE

Under direct supervision of the Accounting Supervisor, the Financial Analyst/Accountant II will perform a variety of professional level accounting, auditing, and financial reporting duties. Responsibilities may include maintaining, allocating, recording TDA, STA and SGR revenues and disbursements; recording various financial transactions; reviewing and reconciling general ledger accounts; evaluating and analyzing variances; and preparing various federal and state reports. In addition, the incumbent will assist in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR); annual audit; and implementation of Government Accounting Standard Board (GASB) new pronouncements.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Obtain, calculate, and record TDA, STA and SGR revenues based on their apportionment areas.
• Allocate and authorize TDA disbursement to operators.
• Prepare various journal entries for multiple entities.
• Perform account reconciliations to ensure general ledger is reconciled to various subsidiary reports.
• Review and analyze transactions; identify and investigate variances; and make corrections.
• Prepare a variety of reports for internal, federal, state and other government agencies to ensure compliance with program and grants requirements. 
• Assist in preparation of annual year-end financial statements; annual audit; and new GASB pronouncement implementation.
• Performs other job-related tasks and duties as needed or assigned by the Section.

 ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Public Works Services Department invites you to apply for the position of Utilities Field Supervisor in the Wastewater Division. The Wastewater Division operates and maintains the City’s sanitary sewer collection system and municipal stormwater system. Under general direction, the Utilities Field Supervisor plans, organizes, supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of assigned crews engaged in maintenance, repair, installation, construction, and regulatory compliance duties within the sanitary sewer collection system and municipal stormwater system.  Primary duties include supervising and evaluating performance of assigned staff, scheduling maintenance and repair work, responding to customer inquiries and requests, and traveling among various worksites to direct, supervise, and evaluate work performed in the field. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under immediate supervision (Street Maintenance Operator I) or general supervision (Street Maintenance Operator II), performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work assigned to the streets division; operates maintenance and construction tools and equipment; performs a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Street Maintenance Operator I: This is the entry level class in the Street Maintenance Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Street Maintenance Operator II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Street Maintenance Operator II: This is the full journey level class within the Street Maintenance Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Street Maintenance Operator I by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Handle complaints and answer questions from the public.

2. Perform general electrical, painting, plumbing and carpentry work as needed.

3. Make minor adjustments on service equipment; maintain tools and equipment in working order.

4. Oversee the work of community service workers.

5. Maintain logs of daily activities.

6. Assist in other areas as needed.

7. Perform related duties as required.

8. Repair and replace street surfaces, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters including back filling trenches and evacuations.

9. Perform the maintenance, repair, construction, and installation work of streets, storm drain, parking lots, street lights, traffic striping, and traffic control signs and signals.

10. Remove hazards from the roadway and other public rights of way.

11. Operate a variety of motorized equipment and specialized maintenance equipment.

12. Perform repaving, patching, overlaying, chuck hole, and crack sealing repair of asphalt.

13. Perform underground service alert locating, marking and notification.

14. Lay out and install traffic signs and pavement markings.

15. Repair and maintain storm drain lift stations.

16. Conduct traffic count surveys.

17. Maintain storm detention ponds, including cleaning, repairing, and spraying weeds.

18. Respond to hazardous materials spills.

The Department
The Public Works Department is comprised of Regulatory Compliance, Engineering, Field Maintenance, Facilities/Fleet, Wastewater Treatment, and Asset Management Divisions. Each division is led by one of two Deputy Directors, who report to the Director of Public Works. The department is responsible for the City’s major capital projects and infrastructure including streets, streetlights, traffic signals, publicly owned facilities, sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, a major lagoon, dams, and levees, as well as solid waste and environmental programs. The City of San Mateo wastewater treatment facility and collection system are undergoing major renovation projects over the next five years valued over $100 million dollars through the Clean Water Program. The Department is responsible for regulatory compliance related to Stormwater, Pretreatment, Green Infrastructure, and other environmental programs, as well as public outreach to raise awareness to the public and other stakeholders about these issues.

The Position
The Administrative Assistant performs a wide variety of complex and difficult clerical and secretarial duties for a major division, office, City Boards, Commissions, or Council. This role receives general supervision from professional or management personnel, or a higher-level clerical position. May exercise direct or functional and technical supervision over lower-level clerical positions.  Some duties may include:

• Type and proofread a wide variety of reports, letters, memos and statistical charts, typing from rough draft or transcribing machine recordings; transcribe dictation.

Main Duties

The main duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Accounts payable, including verifying availability of funds and proper classification of expenditures.
• Review monthly credit cards  transactions for proper coding, approval, and timely processing; follow up with staff as needed due to high transaction volume and coordinate resolution of coding or approval issues.   
• Report generation, including the preparation of the Claims Report for each Board meeting. The Claims Report includes the Accounts Payable and credit cards transactions for a specific period. The Claims Report is a public document and must be reported at every regular Board meeting.
• Perform routine reconciliation of expenditure and revenue accounts, including bank statements.
• Produce journal entries to post to the general ledger.
• Verify, post, and record financial transactions; maintain accounting records, ledgers, registers, journals, and supporting databases in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures.
• Providing technical assistance  for  year-end audit preparation,  including  supplying information to the auditors  and responding to requests and questions.

Additional Responsibilities

The additional responsibilities may include:

• Accounts receivable duties as needed.
• Reconcile specialized accounts including land acquisition worksheets, capital assets, and long-term debt funds to ensure accuracy of financial records.
• Assist in processing debt service obligations, including preparing payment schedules, processing annual payments, posting interest on bonds and notes, updating liability balances, and preparing related journal entries.
• Review, post, balance, reconcile, and maintain accurate and confidential accounting and payroll records. Accurately prepare employee and vendor payments for retirement and other benefits; submit reportable compensation to CalPERS and process payments; prepare Federal and State tax reports.
• Assist in gathering data and preparing monthly financial and statistical reports.

Under general supervision, the Public Works Inspector performs skilled and technical inspection work on a variety of public and private construction projects, including streets, utilities, and other public infrastructure. This role ensures conformance with approved plans, specifications, permits, industry standards, accepted construction practices, and all applicable local and state codes and contractual requirements.

The inspector reviews construction documents, oversees all phases of infrastructure installation and contract maintenance work—such as pavement overlays, stormwater systems, and utility installations—and ensures compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for traffic control. Responsibilities include conducting field measurements, performing material testing, maintaining detailed daily field records, and using applicable software to compile construction reports. The inspector coordinates with contractors, developers, and agency representatives to resolve construction-related issues and may provide functional supervision of field staff on assigned projects. All work is performed in accordance with City safety policies and procedures.

This class performs a variety of technical inspections related to the construction of public streets, parks, site development improvements, paving, grading, drainage, erosion, and storm water quality controls. Assignments, objectives, and work methods are specified. Incumbents' work will be gradually performed on a more independent basis subject to occasional review through consultation with the supervisor.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Education: 

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. College level course work in construction or engineering is desirable.

About Maple Street Correctional Center
Designed to create a better environment for incarcerated individuals and staff and to help reduce recidivism, the facility was the first correctional center built as part of California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s initiative to shift nonviolent, nonsexual offenders from overcrowded state prisons to county-run facilities. The center accommodates female and lower-risk male incarcerated individuals and is composed of two separate but interconnected buildings with a central administration area.

The facility’s architecture emphasizes safety, rehabilitation, and natural light. Instead of placing cells along the exterior walls as in most jails, the design features a curved glass façade with dayrooms located along windowed areas that open to individual living units. This layout improves supervision while allowing daylight to enter the building, helping the white-painted cells feel more open and spacious.

Each floor has a central core station supporting four housing units. These areas include classrooms, a computer lab, and multipurpose rooms to support educational and rehabilitative programming. Additional design elements include natural ventilation, a large rooftop recreation yard, artwork depicting scenes from nature, and a calming natural color palette.

An attached 88-bed transitional housing facility supports alternative sentencing programs such as day reporting, weekend programs, and other supervised custody arrangements, helping prepare individuals for reentry into the community.

• 99-yard obstacle course in under 23 seconds
• 165-pound body drag for 32-feet in under 7 seconds

IMPORTANT: When you report for the test, inform The Academy that you are applying to be a Correctional Officer with San Mateo County. San Mateo County Correctional Officer applicants will not be required to participate in climbing the 6-foot chain link fence or 6-foot solid wall portion of the WSTB test.

NOTE: PELLETB test and WSTB results from other training organizations or law enforcement agencies will be accepted so long as they meet California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements.

 

 

Examples Of Duties

Sheriff's Correctional Officer duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Receive, search, book, fingerprint, and guard inmates in the correctional facilities.  
• Take custody of inmates’ property.  
• Maintain records of bookings, releases, transfers, money and other functions of the correctional facilities.
• Prepare inmates for court and for release.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

If designated as Correctional Deputy, also perform the following:

• Transport and provide security for inmates at the hospital.
• Transport inmates between custodial facilities.
• Provide security for inmates at court.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

As a Deputy Sheriff Trainee, you will begin your journey toward becoming a sworn peace officer with the support, mentorship, and training provided by the Sheriff’s Office.
