THE POSITION

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is looking for up to 15 summer interns to perform a variety of administrative functions in divisions throughout the Sheriff's Office. Participants in the 2020 Sheriff's Summer Internship Program will be expected to commit to the entire 12-week program.

Each intern will work a maximum of 20 hours a week earning $17.51 per hour. Typical work hours will be Monday thru Friday 8a.m. - 5p.m. with flexibility to be further discussed during the placement portion of the hiring process.

CHIEF EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

$5,128 - $6,234/mo. + excellent benefits

DEFINITION: Under general supervision from the Public Works Manager, leads skilled and semi-skilled mechanics in the most difficult and complex vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair work; and personally makes the most complex mechanical repairs to automotive, diesel, and other power driven equipment. The incumbent exercises functional and technical supervision over lower level, equipment maintenance staff.

EXPERIENCE: Two years of increasingly responsible experience performing automotive and equipment maintenance and repair duties. EDUCATION: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance, including specialized training in the maintenance and repair of gas and diesel powered equipment. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:  Possession of a valid California Class “A” Driver’s License w/Tanker Endorsement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The incumbent must have the ability to:

• Lead, train, and assist journey level and semi-skilled mechanics; assign work to mechanics; assist the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in the day-to-day supervision activities.
• Inspect, diagnose, and locate mechanical difficulties on City automobiles, trucks, and a variety of diesel and gasoline powered maintenance and heavy construction equipment.
• Use welding equipment, drill presses, metal brakes, metal shears, lathes, grinders, and a large assortment of other power and hand tools and measurement instruments required for journey level fabrication work.
• Overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, pumps and valves, and heavy construction equipment hydraulic systems.
• Tune up engines, replacing electrical and electronic parts and cleaning and adjusting carburetors.
• Replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, or oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms, and related parts and equipment.
• Install, repair and replace two-way communication equipment in City-owned vehicles.
• Prepare and replace such components as generators, distributors, relays, lights, and switches.
• Assist in the purchasing of equipment maintenance parts and materials.
• Maintain work, time, and material records.
• Ability to use a computer and knowledge of computerized maintenance management programs.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. Incumbents may be required to lift, carry and/or push objects weighing 25 pounds or more. The position requires near and far vision when inspecting work. Incumbents work in all weather conditions, use cleaning and lubricating chemicals which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants, drive motorized vehicles, heavy equipment and work around moving traffic and often works with constant interruptions. The incumbent is also required to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. The employee must have knowledge of tools, equipment, and procedures used in the overhaul, repair, and adjustment of gas and diesel powered equipment; operation and care of internal combustion engines, pump systems, hydraulic equipment; methods, materials, equipment and tools used in welding and fabrication work; operating and repair characteristics of a wide variety of City owned equipment; safe work practices; and principles of personnel supervision and training.  In addition, the employee must have the ability to lead and train skilled and semi-skilled mechanics; perform skilled welding and fabrication work; perform minor and major mechanical work on mechanical equipment; use a variety of tools and equipment with skill; perform advanced journey level equipment mechanic work including the troubleshooting of equipment for both major and minor repair work; work independently in the absence of supervision; and accurately determine mechanical repair needs and estimate the cost and time or repairs.

Provide customer service related to Central Park / Lake Elizabeth boating operations in an efficient and courteous manner. Supervise activities on lake and surrounding areas. Respond to visitor concerns, operate a cash register, provide correct change, handle credit card transactions, maintain a clean and well-equipped worksite. Works well as part of a team in a fun, fast-paced outdoor environment. Employees are expected to work weekends and holidays.

THE POSITION
The Deputy Sheriff position performs a variety of responsible law enforcement and crime prevention work, including patrolling assigned areas, answering calls and complaints, investigating crimes, serving civil papers, and providing courtroom security; to enforce all federal and state laws and local ordinances related to public safety and welfare at the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office throughout Glenn County. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week with a rotating schedule. This recruitment may be used to establish a list to fill future vacancies for the next six (6) months.

THE POSITION

THE POSITION:

The Library and Recreation Department (Child Care Division) is recruiting for a full-time Child Care Instructor II position in their Preschool Programming at Parkside Preschool.  Under the supervision of the Child Care Center Director, this position will provide developmental care and supervision to children enrolled in the childcare program; implement age appropriate curriculum for children; establish and maintain supportive relationships with children and parents; and other related duties as assigned.

This position performs the following essential job duties:      

• Plan, implement and supervise developmental preschool programs.
• Develop age-appropriate curriculum and activities to stimulate children’s cognitive skills, abilities and development.
• Evaluate needs of children, staff and site in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and staff.
• Supervise the activities of children and records observations of children’s behavior and activities; monitor behavioral patterns and develops assessment and profiles.
• Schedule parent conferences to discuss children’s development and concerns; work with family to devise learning and development strategies as necessary.

• Monitor and order classroom supplies and materials as needed.

To be eligible for this position you must have knowledge of:

• Curriculum models such as CLASS and Pyramid training
• Classroom management techniques
• Appropriate disciplinary techniques
• Oral and written communication skills
• Group leadership and teaching skills

To be eligible for this position you must possess the ability to:

• Plan and implement curriculum based on principles of Child Development.
• Supervise and coordinate staff and children.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships.  Work cooperatively to achieve program goals.
• Interact and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with children, parents, staff, host school and community members.
• Manage time, activities and resources effectively.
• Work as scheduled.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

• Completion of twelve (12) units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) courses.     
• One year working with children in a Preschool setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Department of Justice and FBI fingerprint clearance
• Prefer possession of a valid California Driver’s License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:   

Must be able to perform physical activities such as but not limited to:  lifting or carrying children or heavy items (up to 40 lbs.) unassisted, reaching, bending, standing, or walking.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
