Description:
There are currently three (3) full-time vacancies between the Engineering and Construction Divisions that will be filled at the Engineer I or Engineer II level. Candidates will be considered for the level(s) for which they meet minimum qualifications.

The Engineer I – II series provides technical support of the assessment of infrastructure, engineering planning, development and construction of capital improvement projects, traffic engineering and operations, and review of private development projects for conformance with County standards and requirements. The Engineer I – II reviews, analyzes, and prepares studies, technical reports, construction plans, specifications, estimates, schedules, and correspondence related to a variety of projects such as land development, flood control and drainage systems, commercial buildings, roads, traffic control systems, bridges, and other structures.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Director of Finance located in Boulder Creek, CA. The Director of Finance supervises, oversees and manages the activities and operations of the Finance Department including financial reporting, general accounting, purchasing, warehousing and inventory control; budget preparation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, debt administration, revenue management, administration of invested funds and performs other related duties as required.

Planning, Policy, and Sustainability Division: Transportation Planning & Policy (Multimodal Planning)

This Associate Transportation Specialist position is in the Transportation Planning & Policy team. The position focuses on developing long-range multimodal transportation improvement plans (MTIPs) for planned growth areas in the city. An MTIP is a community-based transportation plan for a study area that builds upon past planning efforts, reflects the priorities of demographically diverse neighborhoods, and defines a path forward for implementing multimodal transportation improvements that address community needs and accommodate future growth. The position works with community members to identify strategies and infrastructure investments that provide safer, more affordable, and healthier mobility options for people of all ages and abilities.

This position reports directly to the Transportation Planning Manager and supervises one Transportation Specialist and interns. The position works directly with six staff in the Transportation Planning & Policy team. The position manages the Multimodal Planning function of the team to deliver MTIPs as well as oversee subsequent planning phases leading to the delivery of planned projects. Constructive, creative, and self-motivated, demonstrating a strong desire and skills to support transportation planning needed to achieve the Envision San José 2040 General Plan Goals and Policies are required. The position requires occasional attendance and participation in public engagement activities in evenings and on weekends.

Key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

• Plan, coordinate, document, analyze, report, for project management.
• Conduct in-person and virtual public engagement activities including workshops, focus groups, stakeholder interviews, field surveys, transit/bike/walk audits, pop-ups, and pop-ins throughout the city.
• Manage the development of multimodal transportation improvement plans, written reports, memorandums, and presentation materials, etc.
• Analyze information using geographic information system software (e.g., ArcGIS).

San Jose Animal Care Services, a division in the Public Works Department is currently seeking to fill four (4) full-time Animal Care Attendant vacancies. Both day and night shifts are available.

Animal Care Attendants report to the Shelter Manager of Animal Care and Services and are primarily responsible for feeding, caring for, and moving shelter animals; euthanizing animals; and cleaning and disinfecting kennels and cages. Other duties may include receiving animals brought to the shelter by Animal Control Officers or the public; assisting the public in claiming impounded animals or in adoptions; completing and maintaining animal records; responding to questions regarding age, breed characteristics and treatment of animals; and explaining and interpreting animal control laws, ordinances, regulations, procedures, and policies to the public.

Animal Care Attendants are required to work weekends, holidays, nights, rotating shifts, and respond to emergency animal services assignments during off-duty hours.

Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 100 pounds while handling animals and equipment. Employees may work outside and be exposed to inclement weather, may be exposed to blood borne pathogens while using hypodermic needles on animals, may be exposed to animal scratches and bites, and may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors, gases, chemicals, pollens, and other airborne irritants.

This position will undergo training (4-6 weeks) during normal business hours and will be scheduled to work 5 days a week in either a daytime shift OR overnight shift ( e.g . 9:00 pm to 5:30 a m) after training has been completed. This position will be require d to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and respond to emergency animal services assignments.

This position will perform a variety of responsible law enforcement and crime prevention work, including patrolling assigned areas, answering calls and complaints, investigating crimes, serving civil papers, and providing court room security; enforce all federal and state laws and local ordinances related to public safety and welfare.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Performs routine patrol duties, including but not limited to patrolling assigned areas of the County; responding to emergency calls and/or public calls for assistance; investigating disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, vehicle accidents and other crimes; checking buildings for physical security, etc.

Recreation Supervisor (Aquatics and Fitness)

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at the forthcoming state-of-the-art aquatic and recreation facility set to open in Summer 2024. The brand-new 49,360 sq ft facility will feature indoor and outdoor lap pools, a zero-entry wading pool, fitness amenities, a gymnasium, a walking track, and ample space for programming and rentals. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for professional recreation duties, encompassing the planning, organization, coordination, and supervision of aquatics and fitness programs at the facility. We are seeking candidates with substantial experience in Aquatics and Fitness, and preference will be given to those holding certifications such as AFO, CPO, LGI, WSI, or other relevant Aquatics and Fitness Certifications.

Responsibilities of the Recreation Services Supervisor include, but are not limited to:

•    Managing and supervising assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; planning and organizing workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff and volunteers; reviews progress and directs and implements changes as needed.

Requirements

In addition to graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, social work, gerontology, public administration or another closely related field of study – the candidate will also have three (3) years related paid recreation work experience at a level comparable to Recreation Services Coordinator or similar position with significant experience in the implementation of recreation and human services program or activities. 

Additionally, the candidate should possess a valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain one, and may be required to obtain and maintain a Class B driver’s license. First Aid, American Red Cross Lifeguard  Instructor, CPR, and other specialized certifications may be required based on supervisory assignment.

DEFINITION

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Under general supervision or direction, the Operator I (Collection) is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater collections system, which includes the repair and maintenance of the sewer collection system and pump stations.
   
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Under general direction, supervises the operation of the Collections System of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on a designated shift to ensure processing and discharge of wastewater which complies with performance standards of State regulatory agencies; perform any combination of tasks involved with inspection, construction, repair, and preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of sanitary personnel; prepares logs and other records; performs maintenance tasks as required and other related duties as required.
   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

For the Collections System, ability to locate, detect cause, and correct sewer stoppages; detect and perform minor repairs and adjustments to sewer equipment; maintain pumps and related mechanical equipment; and report to work at any time during an emergency.  Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance work and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic’s tools with skill and accuracy; available for standby on sewer calls on a rotation basis; follow oral and written directions; maintain working relationships with other employees.  (See Physical Demands section as it relates to Essential Function Requirements.)

• Environmental Factors
  • Employees work primarily in the field and are exposed to noise, dust, pollen, grease, smoke, fumes, chemicals, noxious odors, gases, heat, and cold in confined workspaces and in all types of weather conditions. 
  • Employees may interact with upset staff, public and private representatives, and contractors in interpreting and enforcing regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
     

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Performs operation and maintenance on sanitary sewer pump station.
  • Responds to service requests regarding clogged mainline stoppages, mainline breaks, manholes and related structures.
  • Performs mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment.
  • Operates compressor, air gun tamper, backhoe and other related construction tools.
  • May undertake minor carpentry, plumbing, cement work and electrical.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance work, sweeping, sanding, painting.
  • Maintains routine and daily records.
     
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead a crew in the safe performance of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of sanitary sewers
  • Respond to service requests, unclog mainline stoppages, and keep records on sewer line cleanings and state of existing problems within the Collections System
  • Repair mainline breaks, replace broken pipe and reconnect pipe sections
  • Operate power rodder, jet truck, backhoe and TV equipment
  • Conduct periodic inspections and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to wastewater pumping stations and equipment
  • Keep daily logs and records on equipment; makes reports to the supervisor
  • Provide technical assistance and prescribe work methods and safety procedures to maintenance workers and utility workers
  • Inspect installation of new sewer lines, laterals and related structures; may study blueprints and specifications preparatory to inspection of construction project
  • Supervises the work of all operating personnel assigned to shift; trains and evaluates performance of shift employees, enforces safety procedures in conformance with policy of plant’s safety program.
