Minimum Qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the community services, business administration, or a related field.

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience coordinating community services programs including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.

We have an excellent opportunity in the Community Development Department for the position of Plan Check Assistant!

We are seeking a customer service-oriented individual with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. The Plan Check Assistant performs a range of duties in reviewing and checking building construction plans (residential, commercial, and industrial) for compliance with all applicable State and City codes.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review construction plans for additions, alterations, repairs, and other projects to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances
• Respond to inquiries from, and provide information to architects, engineers, contractors, building designers, owners, and the general public regarding project status, plan checking, and other code code-related issues
• Provide assistance at the public service counter (over-the-counter plan checking, code questions, and permit issuance)
• Perform routine engineering analysis and calculations
• Approve over-the-counter plan revisions to issued permits

The Community Development Department of the City of Dixon has been authorized to fill a full-time position of Associate Planner.  This classification performs a variety of highly complex professional work in current planning, housing, advance planning, and environmental planning including research and analysis, report writing, plan review; permit coordination, managing complex projects, data collection and analysis, information dissemination; assists with management of consultant contracts and work programs as assigned and performs field inspection.

Future Salary COLA:  4% increase (eff July 2024)

This is in the professional planning series and competent to independently perform the full scope of duties required, with minimal supervision from the Community Development Director or designee. Supervision received is characterized by general supervisory direction and control intended to define objectives and problems.  Control over work methods is general, rather than detailed in nature.  Supervision given will involve training and providing lead direction to professional, technical and clerical staff.

This classification is distinguished from that of Assistant Planner by the greater complexity and political sensitivity of the assignments received, higher level of experience and knowledge and greater independence.

We are seeking an innovative and proactive Building Official with a positive, forward-thinking perspective. The Building Official will manage all building division functions (building permit issuance, plan check, and building inspections). The position reports to the Community Development Director. The Building Official will assist in integrating the City’s vision, goals, and people strategy with the business strategy of the Community Development Department; managing, planning, and organizing Community Development services, programs, and operations; developing and implementing policy; crafting and accomplishing department and City objectives, goals, and performance metrics within guidelines established by the City Council and City Manager. The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking highly motivated and results-oriented Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II/Trainees for the Water and Wastewater divisions of the Public Works Department.  Applications are currently being accepted to fill two positions at the Municipal Service Center in the Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks (one each in Water and Wastewater). Dependent upon the candidate's qualifications, the vacancies will be filled at either the Utilities Maintenance Worker Level I, Level II or Trainee.

Primary responsibilities:

• Perform a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair duties as it relates to the water and wastewater divisions
• Perform light and heavy manual labor
• Inspect and perform maintenance on various pump and lift stations
• Operate a variety of maintenance and construction equipment

THE POSITION

The City of Rocklin is hiring Academy Graduate Police Officers to join the Rocklin Police Department. Academy Graduate Police Officers will join the department and begin an 18-month program to earn their Basic POST certificate. An example of duties that an Academy Graduate Police Officers will perform under close supervision are:

• Assumes responsibility for the preservation of the public peace and the protection of life and property by preventing crime and enforcing all laws.
• Patrols an assigned area in an automobile, other vehicle, or on foot for the purpose of preventing criminal activity and enforcing traffic laws and regulations; issues citations and makes arrests as necessary; responds to calls for protection of life and property and performs enforcement duties.
• Conducts interviews with victims, complainants, witnesses, and suspects; searches crime scenes for evidence; collects, packages, and preserves evidence; testifies in court.
• Detects, pursues, apprehends, and arrests or detains persons involved in crimes or misconduct; confronts and arrests violent combative subjects; books and transports prisoners; serves warrants and subpoenas.
• Conducts preliminary or follow-up investigations; prepares reports on arrests made, activities performed, and unusual incidents observed.
• Directs traffic and/or performs crowd control during special events and in emergency situations.
• Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints. • Actively develops and fosters community partnerships and demonstrates integrity and professionalism within the organization and community.
• Represents the City and the department in a courteous, professional manner.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by 30 college-level semester units from a regionally accredited educational institution.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
• Certificate of completion from a POST approved California law enforcement academy.

Working Conditions

Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation.

Must be willing to work emergencies as well as evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Must meet physical, psychological, and background standards established by POST as well as ongoing peace officer requirements pursuant to federal, state, and local legislation. This classification requires wearing respiratory protective equipment at times. When assigned to such work, facial hair must be shaven when it interferes with the safe fitting of respiratory protective equipment. This classification functions as a peace officer within the authority and limits of California Penal Code Sections 830.1(a) and 832.

Applicants will be screened against the minimum requirements. Candidates who meet the minimum requirements will be invited to attend a Physical Agility Test (PAT). 

Those who receive a passing score on the PAT will be invited to a Structured Oral Examination.

The City of Dixon is opening a great opportunity for those interested in contributing to local law enforcement efforts for the position of Police Volunteer in the Police Department. Under the direction and supervision of experienced police personnel, volunteers will provide critical support across various functions, complementing the efforts of sworn officers and civilian staff.

This is a volunteer position intended as an educational and community service experience. In addition to serving a support role within the Police Department, this classification is exposed to a wide variety of law enforcement duties and will have different opportunities, based on level of interest, to support community policing efforts and activities.

Work involves irregular, often non-scheduled, hours during the day and evenings, and on the weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Some appointments and events would require some short distance travel to other City department locations.

Under the supervision of veteran Police Officer's the cadet experiences what it takes to develop important cadet skills. Examples: cadet patrol, traffic control, attending meetings, delivery of witness subpoenas, report taking, provide assistance to the various bureaus within the department, directing phone calls to the appropriate personnel, learns how to interact with the community during all kinds of problem-solving situations.

This is an entry-level, volunteer position intended as an educational and career development internship. In addition to serving a support role within the Police Department, this classification is exposed to a wide variety of law enforcement duties and will gain experience in the work place.

Enjoy working outdoors?  Want to make a difference in your community?  School Crossing Guards play an important role in helping children who walk or bicycle to school by helping them safely cross the street at key crosswalk locations.

The City is interviewing to fill several openings for part-time positions.  Apply immediately to be considered.  Regular assignment and substitute (on-call) positions are available.  Hours for the 23-24 school year are typically 1-1.5 hours in the morning and 1-1.5 hours in the afternoon depending on the school location and schedule.

Primary responsibilities:

• Monitor and assist in crossing of school-age children during peak traffic times at select locations.
• Provide appropriate safety instruction for children crossing streets and intersections.
• Watch traffic flow and wait for an appropriate gap between vehicles to lead groups of school children safely across a street.
