Clerical Support/Vote by Mail 

• Data entry 
• Assembling election supplies 
• Assembling and processing of Vote by Mail ballot packets

• Operating voting equipment 

Customer Service/Phone Bank 

• Assisting voters in finding election material and understanding their voting opportunities over the phone 

Outreach Services

The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Vote Center Representatives (Office Assistant I) to assist in the upcoming March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary Election. Vote Centers have replaced polling places as in-person voting sites and offer additional services over a longer period of time. This position requires the ability to operate a computer and computer applications/software quickly and accurately. 

 We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time position of Vote Center Representative to be hired for the following duties: 

Several, but not all, Vote Center Representatives require fluency in Spanish, Mandarin and/or Cantonese, Tagalog/Filipino or Korean 

1. Use a computer to verify voter eligibility. 
2. Provide information about the upcoming election. 
3. Guide voters on use of electronic ballot marking devices. 
4. Operate/troubleshoot voting equipment. 
5. Provide in-person customer service including assisting voters to register to vote and assisting voters in casting a ballot. 
6. Issue ballots. 
7. Maintain accurate files and records. 

Vote Centers will be open for four to eleven days. Those hired can expect to work approximately 7 – 15 days including training. 

Vote Center Representatives will work 5 days per week and 8 hours per day. This assignment will include weekends and potentially 2 or more evenings. On Election Day, Vote Center Representatives will work from 6:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. or later if necessary. 

Vote Center hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily during the period of operation, including weekends and holidays, and 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Election Day, March 3, 2020. These positions may require evening work assignments.

We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time classification of office assistant to be hired into one of the following areas: 
 
Elections Warehouse Technician

• Testing functions of electronic voting equipment 
• Staging heavy equipment containers for delivery
• Inventorying and moving voting equipment and Vote Center supplies
• Assisting in delivery and pickup of voting equipment at Vote Centers 
• Assisting in delivery of spare equipment and supplies to Vote Centers

Elections Field Technician

• Testing functions of electronic voting equipment 
• Assisting in delivery, connection and testing of voting equipment at Vote Centers 
• Troubleshooting voting equipment at Vote Centers
• Assisting in delivery of spare equipment and supplies to Vote Centers
• Driving regularly to each Vote Center on an assigned route to make sure that all equipment is properly functioning

The Elections Warehouse Technicians and Elections Field Technicians are classified as an Office Assistant. The hourly wage for these positions is $19.88.

Incumbents will work a flexible schedule, with increased scheduling during peak workload periods, but less than 1,000 hours during the assignment through the fiscal year starting July 1st and ending June 30th.

JOB SUMMARY

Under direction this position provides pool supervision, performs rescues, and enforces safety rules and related duties as required. The Lifeguard is a part-time hourly position. This class receives assignments from and reports to the Supervisory Team; must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Staff meetings are mandatory and held on Fridays at 10:00 am.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

• Administers first aid.
• Enforces pool regulations and policies.
• Assists in the maintenance of operational equipment.
• Maintains the pool area, deck and locker room for cleanliness and safety.
• Prevents accidents.
• Performs rescues.
• Provides customer service as needed.

Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, this position is assigned to the Aquatics Division of the Recreation Department at the City of Pacifica.  The Head Swim Coach teaches the fundamentals of competitive swimming in a positive environment.  The duties include coaching the swim team, providing instruction and guidance during training sessions, supervising several assistant swim coaches, and performing other related work as required.

The Head Swim Coach is responsible for working with the Recreation Coordinator to ensure the development of each individual swimmer while encouraging sportsmanship, healthy competition, and attendance at meets.  This position is expected to enforce the discipline of regular swimming practices consisting of technique demonstration and drills along with age-appropriate motivation, encouragement and fun.

Essential Functions of the Position

• Attend all scheduled swim meets; supervise all swimmers; coordinate volunteers (in conjunction with the PSL Parent Board); create all swim meet line-ups and information.
• Coordinate practice group scheduling and assign athletes to appropriate training groups; maintain appropriate records for team members and meets.
• Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices; develop strong team building qualities through demonstrated leadership.
• Attend all swim team staff meetings; attend all registration and parent meetings; coordinate and attend all swim team special events and fundraisers.
• Actively coach swimmers in competitive stroke training to improve technique.
• Recruit new swimmers to program.
• Have basic computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel or related programs.
• Possess excellent customer service skills in all forms of communication.
• Meet all safety and operational requirements in the facility; abide by the USA Swimming Code of Conduct and Park, Beaches & Recreation policies and procedures.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives direction from the Aquatics Recreation Coordinator.  Exercises supervision over all assistant swim coaches and all swim team participants.

Qualifications

Minimum two-year history of coaching on a competitive swim teams is mandatory, plus a minimum two-year history as a swimming instructor.  Familiarity with the USA Swimming rules and local swim conference rules and regulations.  Certification in Safety Training for Swim Coaches or equivalent is required, if candidate does not currently possess this certification they must obtain it within 30 days of employment.  Current lifeguarding and C/PRO certification required.  Current and valid California driver’s license required.  Experience as a head coach of a competitive swim team is highly desirable.  A Bachelor’s degree or an Associate Degree in physical education, recreation, or a related field also is desirable.

All employees of the Parks, Beaches & Recreation Department that work with children in any capacity need to successfully pass the Department of Justice fingerprint requirements prior to employment.  All employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

THE POSITION

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the temporary, part-time position of Preschool Teacher and Substitute Preschool Teacher to work in programs located at various City facilities. The normal work schedule can be Monday through Friday or Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday and Thursday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. or on-call substitute preschool teacher. This position is limited to 25 hours per week for a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year. This position is for year-round employment.

• Possession of a national certification from an accredited fitness association such as ACE, AFAA, or AEA in group exercise or personal training within six months of hire. Or a Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in exercise-related studies.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires hand manipulation in simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. The position requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard.  Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports, work related documents using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper, books and documents weighing up to 25 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.

Education & Experience
The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

Graduation from High School or the tested equivalent; AND
