GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of routine to moderately complex clerical and customer service-related duties requiring program knowledge, technical evaluation of information, and the use of clerical skills to support the operations of the assigned department.  This current part-time vacancy will reside in the City Manager’s Office focusing on Human Resources tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Receives visitors and telephone calls; answers questions, and provides departmental information, documents, or forms requiring specialized knowledge; routes or directs individuals as appropriate.
• Receives, date stamps, reviews, and distributes department mail.
• Performs varied clerical duties related to the department as assigned.
• Establishes and maintains routine databases and filing systems; files, scans, and archives documents.
• Researches readily available information; enters and compiles data in paper and electronic files; compiles and prepares basic reports regarding division activities in the area of assignment.
• Provides backup support for other administrative support staff as necessary.
• Assists with the following Human Resources duties: Workers’ Compensation claims; Onboarding new employees; Benefits enrollment; Recruitments; Preemployment; Employment verifications; Policy review and interpretation; Financial audits; EDD claims.
• Assists with reviewing, evaluating, and updating forms, policies, procedures, and manuals.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is constantly required to sit, and frequently to stand and walk to counter areas.  The sensory demands include the ability to talk, and hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate computer hardware and standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee occasionally lifts and carries records and documents weighing less than 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use oral and written communication skills; read and interpret data; and interact appropriately with staff, management, vendors, and the general public in the course of work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee frequently works in office conditions where the noise level is usually moderate, at and below 85 decibels.

The Town of Los Gatos is establishing a pool of qualified Temporary / Seasonal Maintenance Assistant candidates for the Parks and Public Works Department. The pool of qualified candidates will be used for current and future vacancies in the Department. 

The Maintenance Assistant position is a temporary, hourly, at-will, non-benefited position limited to 999 hours of employment in a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30). The work schedule is Saturdays and Sundays, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., including holidays.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE 
The ideal candidate loves working outdoors in various weather conditions, possesses strong customer service skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor, is flexible and willing to learn new tasks and skills, and can work independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have experience in park maitenance and using hand and power tools.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Education: Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent. 
Experience: One (1) year of park maintenance or other related work experience.
License: Valid California Class C driver’s license.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and be able to perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on off-hour shifts in emergency situations.

California Education Code Section 10911.5 requires that all public recreation program employers must fingerprint all persons having direct contact with a minor. The City does not hire persons who have been convicted of felony drug, sexual assault or physical assault crimes.

THE POSITION
Under the general supervision of the Campbell Community Center Supervisor, the Building Attendant oversees proper use and rental activity at the City of Campbell Community Center and other City facilities. The Building Attendant assignments include working special events at various City facilities. The Building Attendant performs basic custodial duties (moving tables, chairs, set-up AV equipment, set-up athletic equipment, moping, sweeping, empty trashcans, etc.), ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of the facilities. The Building Attendant work schedule is primarily during the late afternoon/evening hours Monday - Friday, and on weekdays (both day/evening shifts). Occasional week-day shifts may be available.

Salary Range: $15.50 to $18.00 per hour DOQ
Part-Time, Temporary Non-Benefited position

Schedule:  Approximately 8-20 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours

Responsibilities: 

• Provides customer service to community center renters, class instructors and the general public at the Campbell Community Center;
• Opens buildings for scheduled events, performs set-up/take-down of tables, chairs, portable staging, dance floors, AV equipment, and other set-up equipment; supervises evening and weekend activities at the Community Center;
• Performs custodial tasks (emptying trash containers, cleaning tables, chairs, and restrooms, sweeping floors, etc.) as assigned. 
• Are responsible for the security of the site, as well as providing good public and customer relations;
• Additional responsibilities, as needed, may be assigned.

Qualifications: 

• Must be 18 years of age and equivalent to high school graduation.
• Must have a valid California Driver's License. 
• Must demonstrate the ability to work independently, follow oral and written instructions, display courteous public relations, and demonstrate safety and good judgment. 
• Previous experience in recreation, building maintenance, or customer service work is preferred.
