DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES

The District is recruiting for the position of Human Resources Technician I/II in the Human Resources Office. Please note that this is a temporary position expected to be 12 months in duration, not to exceed 06/30/2025.
  

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, provides technical and administrative support work in a variety of Human Resources functions, including benefits, onboarding/offboarding and other human resources programs.

 

Examples of Duties for this Position

• Assists in the administration of employee benefits and leaves, retirement and health insurance programs; informs and advises employees regarding these programs: contacts insurance carriers and third-party administrators involved with the District's programs to resolve problems and answer employee questions.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Associate Planner! In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform professional planning work in the Land Use Division of the Planning Department or the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department.

In the Land Use Division, the Associate Planner performs a variety of professional activities in support of the City's planning services. This Division administers zoning regulations, reviews development projects and assists the community in its efforts to plan for the City's physical, cultural, environmental, and socio-economic future. If current planning activities are assigned, work will include data collection, provision of information to the public at the zoning counter, processing development applications, and environmental review. If policy planning activities are assigned, work will include ordinance and plan revisions, data collection and analysis, and other land use studies.

In the Transportation Division, the Associate Planner works on a variety of projects, programs, and initiatives, such as developing, implementing, and updating the City's transportation plans; analyzing transportation and traffic safety data to identify and prioritize projects and policies that will improve public safety; developing Complete Streets projects and supporting the implementation of transportation capital improvement projects; and coordinating with transit providers, primarily AC Transit, on transit projects affecting Berkeley, including service planning and bus stop improvements. Additional duties may include leading grant applications and assisting with grant compliance, procurement of consultants, and consultant and contract management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this classification is:

Equivalent to graduation from a four year college with major coursework in city, regional, or urban planning or a closely related field and two (2) years of professional planning experience. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

The Department of Public Works is currently seeking to fill multiple full-time Engineer I/II vacancies of different disciplines that may be assigned to work in the various divisions of the department including Transportation and Hydraulic Services (THS) or Development Services (DS).

Transportation and Hydraulic Services Division The Transportation and Hydraulics Services Division is responsible for the design, construction, and master plan of bridges, culverts, streets, sidewalks, storm and sanitary sewers, pump stations, streetlights, landscape and hardscape improvements, traffic signals, and supports construction and engineering, upgrade and revitalization of the San Jose-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility. The Airport Division Capital Improvements team is responsible for the project management and delivery of capital projects related to San Jose Mineta International Airport.

City Facilities Architectural Services Division CFAS Division has the primary responsibility for the delivery of capital improvements projects on City properties and provides design and construction services for public buildings, landscape improvements, and capital maintenance projects, including recreational facilities, parks, trails, libraries, public safety facilities, and various cultural facilities.

Engineering Services Division

The Engineering Services Division is comprised of four sections: Construction Management Services, Structural Engineering and Code Inspection, Material Testing Laboratory, and Survey. The department of Parks, Creation and Neighborhood Services is currently seeking to fill two Part Time Security Officers positions for Happy Hollow Park and Zoo.

The hourly range for Security Officer part time classification is $28.77-$34.98. This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

Under the direction of the HHPZ Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Supervisor, the part time Security Officer performs security work of moderate difficulty in maintaining a safe environment for the use of public buildings/facilities utilized by San José and Bay Area Residents. This is a highly visible City-wide facility and program with a focus on ensuring safety, security, and customer service for the guests, partners, and staff of Happy Hollow Park & Zoo.      * Walk HHPZ - inside park, outside fence line, parking lots - East Lot, K1, K2 & K4

     * Communicate with Guard Vendors, walk facility with new guards from vendor

THE DEPARTMENT

The Finance Department provides critical financial services citywide, setting the policy controls over the use of City funds. It leads the fiscal accountability efforts and ensures the responsible and legal use of City funds through thoughtful appropriations and implementation and management of policies and procedures. Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

• A typical way to qualify is three years of progressively responsible professional-level experience in the field of Human Resources within a public-sector environment, specifically regarding ADA in general and Title I specifically, Leave of Absence, Workers' Compensation, and insurance policies.

• County policies and procedures and pertinent State, Federal, and local laws relating to human resource management.

• Industry trends relative to ADA Title I Accommodations, Leave of Absence, and Workers' Compensation and public-sector insurance.
