About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a collaborative, three-person Grants Program team within Administrative Services. The Grants Program identifies and secures external funding and manages a small Grantmaking Program. In this role, the Senior Technician supports the entirety of the grant lifecycle, including identifying funding opportunities, application review and editing, and, once awarded, developing funding agreements, monitoring compliance with the grant agreements, and working with Midpen departments to submit reimbursement requests, reports, and project deliverables. Additionally, the Senior Technician supports the administration of a small grantmaking program. Under general direction of the Administrative Services Manager, the Administrative Services Technician is a confidential position that provides paraprofessional, technical, administrative, and secretarial support to District programs and services. The Administrative Services Technician learns and then applies procedural, program, and compliance knowledge; assumes ongoing, technical responsibilities specific to assigned areas, such as risk management and record management; works with departments and outside agencies to coordinate assigned programs, projects, and services; and performs research and routine analysis on a wide variety of special projects.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate has experience in either of two backgrounds. The first is a background in providing journey-level clerical or technical support in the public or private sector that included interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports. Alternatively, the second is a background in providing advanced office support that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.

In addition to one of these two backgrounds, the ideal candidate is curious and enjoys learning about new systems and functions at a technical level. They appreciate when careful precision and accuracy is necessary to complete a task. The idea candidate is open to helping with functions and tasks that they are not familiar with and will seek out resources and guidance to better understand the function and complete the task accurately. They are also proactive in identifying needs, developing and recommending solutions, and ensuring the solution is fully implemented.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience: A combination of training and experience that demonstrates that a person has obtained the required knowledge and is able to perform the essential duties of the position. A person with the following combined training and experience would typically qualify to compete in a selection process:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of increasingly responsible journey-level clerical or technical support experience which included responsibility for interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports, or advanced office support work that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.

POLICE SERGEANT- Open Until Filled

The Town of Atherton is approximately five square miles. The City is located in the San Francisco Peninsula in Southern San Mateo County. Atherton is a small, rural, and residential community, with no industrial land-use base. Native trees cover the five miles of town. Atherton’s current population is 7,133 according to the California Census in 2020.       

The Town of Atherton invites you to apply for the position of Police Sergeant. This is an internal and external opportunity. Under the general supervision of the Police Commander, the Police Sergeant plans, schedules, deploys, trains, supervises, and reviews the work of Police Officers and civilian staff.  The Sergeant performs a wide range of patrol and related duties in the prevention of crime, maintenance of public order, protection of life and property, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances.  As part of the Management Team, the Sergeant assists in the preparation of collision investigations and criminal cases, provides courtroom testimony, serves in specialized organizational roles, and assists with various administrative functions.

THE POSITION

To perform semi-skilled and skilled work involving the City's Pollution Prevention Program, Industrial Pretreatment Program, Stormwater Program, and related programs.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have strong communication and customer service skills, the ability to prioritize work and maintain deadlines. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist in developing and implementing the Pollution Prevention Program.  Assist in the day-to-day enforcement of the Industrial Pretreatment Program, Pollution Prevention Program and the Stormwater Program.  Inspect Pollution Prevention Program facilities to ensure compliance with City Pretreatment regulations.    Assist with inspection of Industrial Pretreatment Program facilities to ensure compliance with Pretreatment regulations. Inspect construction sites to ensure compliance with NPDES Phase II requirements. Issue discharge permits for new and existing businesses regulated under the Pollution Prevention Program. Regular and consistent attendance.  Work weekends and holidays as assigned. 

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests and analyses.  Serve in a stand-by status after regular working hours and respond to emergency call-outs.  Keep detailed records of Pollution Prevention Program activities. Assist with public education and outreach activities to permitted businesses and residential customers. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Environmental Compliance Inspector I:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Specialized training or coursework in the water pollution control field is highly desirable.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in working with mechanical equipment and basic water or wastewater chemical and bacteriological processes is desirable.

License or Certificate: Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver's license.  A Grade I Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by California Water Environment Association is required within 12 months.

 

Environmental Compliance Inspector II:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training or coursework in the water pollution control field.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in the operation of a Pretreatment program. One (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant and/or related facilities or programs is desirable.

Licenses and Certificates: Grade I Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association required upon hire. Must obtain a Grade II Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association within 12 months of appointment.

THE POSITION

To collect and examine water, wastewater, stormwater and related materials.  Performs a variety of standardized and complex tests and analysis of such samples. Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment, prepares glassware, mixes reagents and media. Prepares reports, performs special studies, analyzes results and works with a variety of outside labs.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Water Pollution Control Facility, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.  Initial position and salary of the selected candidate will be based on previous work experience and valid certificates.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will have previous experience working in a laboratory or related position.  Candidate will be familiar with the principles and practices necessary in the operation of a Water Pollution Control Facility and have completed previous coursework in chemistry, microbiology, mathematics and other relevant fields.  The Ideal Candidate will be organized, flexible, hardworking, and have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Candidate will be detail oriented, have excellent time management skills, have the ability to maintain accurate records, be a cooperative team player, and bring a positive, professional attitude to workplace.

 

Laboratory Technician I:

This is the entry-level classification in the flexibly staffed Laboratory (Lab) Technician series.  Positions at this level are distinguished from the Lab Technician II level by providing a narrower range of duties, usually of a less complex nature in the treatment plant laboratory.  Incumbents learn and perform a variety of clearly defined duties involved with cleaning and maintaining laboratory material and equipment and performing routine testing and analysis in the laboratory. Laboratory Technician II provides lead supervision and training as needed to the Laboratory Technician I.

Laboratory Technician II:

This is the journey level classification of Lab Technician series.  Positions at this level are distinguished from the entry level by performing complex testing and analysis in the treatment plant laboratory.  Incumbents are thoroughly familiar of defined duties involved with calibrating and maintaining sophisticated laboratory equipment.  Provides lead direction to Lab Technician I in addition to performing NPDES required analyses in the laboratory and the more complex laboratory analysis. The Laboratory and Environmental Compliance Manager provides direct supervision. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Laboratory Technician I - Collects and prepares water, wastewater, receiving waters and related samples for analysis.  Conducts standard physical, chemical and biological analysis of such samples.  Makes mathematical calculations and statistical analysis for test results.  Prepares and maintains a variety of logs, records and reports related to the work performed.  Performs complex sampling techniques.  Prepares lab supply and equipment order lists.  Regular and consistent attendance.

Laboratory Technician II – All of the essential functions listed above and:  Prepares standardized reagents and media used in laboratory analysis.  Samples, schedules and ships samples to outside laboratories.  Performs analysis on quality assurance samples for compliance with State Health Department to maintain laboratory certification.  Participates in the laboratory quality assurance program by reviewing and verifying records and reports for the NPDES permit requirements.  Schedules laboratory and maintenance work, ordering of materials, and maintains records as directed by the Laboratory and Environmental Compliance Manager.  Ensure proper maintenance and repair work on all laboratory equipment.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Cleans and prepares laboratory equipment and glassware.  Maintains laboratory in a clean and orderly condition.  Observes safe work methods, practices and precautions; uses appropriate safety devices and equipment in accordance to laboratory standard operating procedures.  Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Laboratory Technician I:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by related college level coursework.
Experience:  One (1) year experience in a laboratory or related position is desirable.
License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a current California Driver’s License.  Possession of a current California Water Environment Association Grade I Laboratory Analyst Certificate within eighteen (18) months of appointment.  Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate is desirable.

 

Laboratory Technician II:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent is required.  Completion of one (1) year of related college level coursework is preferred.
Experience:  Two (2) years of general laboratory experience is preferred.
License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of all certifications required for the Laboratory Technician I and possession of a current California Water Environment Association Grade II Laboratory Analyst certificate within eighteen (18) months.  Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate is desirable.

Temporary Maintenance Worker – Parks & Roadsides 

Salary: $20.00/hour

 

DEFINITION 

Perform a variety of general maintenance services for parks and roadsides and other areas as assigned within the Town.   

 

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position. 
• Flexible schedule up to 29 hours per week, which may include weekend work; not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year. The schedule for this position would be Friday through Monday. 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED 

General supervision is received from the Maintenance Supervisor. May exercise supervision of Work Alternative Program participants as assigned. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES 

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:  

• Clean up trash in and around Town-maintained park and roadside areas. 
• Operate a variety of equipment, including: half ton and three-quarter ton trucks, Cushman and golf cart (or similar) vehicles, blowers and other two-cycle equipment, and hand tools (i.e., shovel, rake, hoe, etc.). 
• Periodically groom sports fields and bocce ball courts with equipment and/or machinery provided. 
• Prepare baseball fields and bocce ball courts for league play. 
• Assist Maintenance Services personnel on assigned projects.  

• Perform duties within OSHA standards. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Knowledge of: 

• Construction and maintenance materials, methods, and terminology. 

• The use, purposes and maintenance of hand tools; and the operation of light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment in performing duties. 

Ability to: 

• Understand and follow oral and written directions. 
• Ability to work both in a supervised and unsupervised environment. 
• Perform manual labor for extended periods of time; and operate under tight deadlines. 
• Lift equipment and materials up to 50 lbs. 
• Work flexible hours. 

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION 

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

 

Education: 

Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade. Graduation from high school or equivalent is preferred. 

 

Experience: 

Landscape and/or irrigation maintenance experience is desirable.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system.
