Benefits: Total Compensation Package: Placement on salary schedule. If a medical plan is selected, the employee will receive a contribution of $1,075.00/month toward the selected medical plan (through CalPERS), Delta Dental, and Life Insurance. The employee pays the balance of their health premiums from their gross earnings on a pre-tax basis. If a medical plan is not selected, employees will receive a contribution of $300.00/month toward single coverage for Delta Dental, and Life Insurance. A vision plan (VSP) is also available. Employees pay the worker contribution to the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Office of the Superintendent, perform a variety of specialized duties to support San Mateo County Office of Education’s strategic vision concerning sustainability.
Essential Job Functions:
- Collect, analyze, and utilize data to strengthen sustainability efforts across schools in San Mateo County and San Mateo County Office of Education
- Support efforts to develop, implement, and provide training on county-wide protocols and templates with district partners to promote sustainable operations, facilities, and programs
- Provide technical support to districts and schools in developing and implementing sustainability plans; Assist in preparing and conducting training sessions and materials
- Work with cross-divisional teams to identify and implement best practices for sustainability at San Mateo County Office of Education
- Communicate and collaborate with school sites and community partners to ensure efficient and effective use of support services
- Monitor and evaluate efforts to promote sustainability across schools in San Mateo County and at San Mateo County Office of Education
- Identify and share best practices in San Mateo County for creating sustainable campuses
- Remain current on applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to assigned activities
Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience providing the job knowledge, skills, and ability for successful job performance will be considered for positions in this classification. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Social Science, Education, or a related field
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience involving sustainability, solid waste management, and/or resource conservation. Experience working in an educational setting preferred.
LICENSE: Possession of/or ability to attain a valid California Driver’s License
Specialized Skills and Knowledge:
- Knowledge of general principles and theories of environmental sustainability and overall knowledge of sustainability topics and issues, in particular zero waste and resource conservation
- Ability to perform a variety of specialized duties involving technical support to school districts and sites in achieving green facilities and operations goals, such as, but not limited to, zero waste and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions
- Knowledge of practices, procedures, and techniques involved in the planning and implementation of green facilities and operations efforts
- Ability to collect, analyze, and utilize data
- Ability to plan and organize work
- Ability to review situations, identify problems, and develop an effective course of action
- Ability to review, monitor, and evaluate progress on goals and capture best practices
- Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to assigned activities.
- Knowledge of record keeping and report preparation techniques
- Ability to prepare written reports
- Knowledge of oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
- Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience, courtesy, and cultural sensitivity
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Ability to operate of a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software
- Ability to work independently with little direction
- Ability to meet schedules and timelines

Examination Process: The examination process for this classification will consist of:
- A scored rating by a screening panel of application materials, including supplemental questionnaire, for education, training, experience, completeness, and accuracy
- An oral board examination (anticipated date- January 14, 2020)
Only the highest qualified candidates will be invited to attend the examinations.
