What You’ll Do

The Community Services Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the leisure, cultural, and human services activities of the Division and providing highly responsible professional and technical staff assistance. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, organize, coordinate and direct the work of subordinates in developing and implementing a broad and diversified community recreation and human services program.
• Participate as a member of the community-based network of Human Services Agencies.
• Develop and implement changes in staffing, goals, objectives, policies and procedures to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
• Develop programs of service to meet community needs including plans for efficient and economical use of labor, buildings, equipment and materials.
• Attend meetings of and prepare reports for Commissions and Advisory Groups; provide technical and professional advice and recommendations relating to recreation and human services.
• Respond to and resolve difficult resident inquiries and complaints.
• Prepare and administer the division budget, maintaining appropriate budgetary controls.
• Administer federal, state and special project grants.
• Participate in planning, organizing, and coordinating the development, construction, and maintenance of parks, recreation buildings, playground areas, and other facilities.
• Direct the scheduling of work projects and the determination of equipment, material and personnel needs with the Division.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Supervise the maintenance of a variety of records and reports.
• Select, supervise, train, and evaluate assigned personnel.

The Community Services Manager receives direction from the Director of Parks and Recreation or higher-level department personnel and exercises direct supervision over professional, technical and clerical staff.

Therapeutic Recreation/Old Meadows- Serving youth, teens and young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities

Hourly Rate:  $23.86 - $29.00

Summary: 
Under general supervision, organizes, oversees and coordinates specialized recreational programs for the community and provides staff assistance in a specialized program area; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plans, organizes and implements specialized recreation programs for an assigned community area or group; verifies instructor availability; resolves conflicts related to activities and events.
• Promotes participation in scheduled activities and explains specialized programs to patrons; interfaces with prospective and current participants through emails, telephone and social media contacts; collaborates with marketing team to create fliers, assists in collecting information for print material, submits material for approval, and posts print advertisements.
• Coordinates the planning, promoting and implementing of programs and activities including registration and operations of special events offered by the unit.
• Participates in collecting fees for services; provides patron assistance with payments; properly stores or transfers cash monies; processes refund requests.
• Serves as liaison with community groups to assess needs and proposes program ideas; engages patrons to solicit feedback on existing programs and identifies gaps in service; implements changes and adjustments to programs to enhance participants’ experience.
• Generates a variety of records and reports related to all aspects of programming; maintains participation logs as well as staff scheduling for respective programs and events; assists with the development of master schedule to be viewed by the public; and tracks revenue and expendi­tures.
• Assists in conducting training programs for staff in specialized recreation area including monthly in-service meetings; maintains training documentation; assists in recruiting volunteers and contract personnel; properly retains and files documents.
• Performs regular safety inspections of assigned units; initiates maintenance work orders; maintains appropriate emergency supplies and first aid inventory for facility.
• Initiates purchase orders for supplies and equipment; manages order delivery; maintains budget and documents expenses.
• May be assigned to camp programs.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• May attend and participate in councils or associations related to specialty.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED and at least 2,000 hours of relevant work or volunteer experience, at least 30 units completed in recreation or a related field. An associate degree is preferred. Must be at least 18 years old.

Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to use common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers and participants and parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance. For Therapeutics unit: ability to obtain a commercial driver license within one year of employment (for a 15-passenger van).
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of a negative TB skin test.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position may provide guidance or direction to other part-time employees and to volunteers.

Summary:
Under general supervision, monitors and maintains the District’s central reservation system and main­tains schedules for outdoor facilities including fields, parks and picnic areas; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains reservation system for the District comprising of outdoor and indoor spaces; manages mobile staging and equipment to include establishing reservation reschedules, posting schedules online, and providing direct oversight of outdoor space usage.
• Responds to online, telephone and in-person inquiries from the public and co-workers, receives web and paper reservation applications, reviews applications for proper use of space according to District guidelines, determines approval/rejection of applications, notifies applicants of decisions, and files documents for recordkeeping.
• Assists in authorizing permits for private and public entities, reviews permit holder’s evidence of insurance, submits and files insurance forms.
• Accepts payments from permit holders including deposits for space, processes payments for accounting purposes, obtains information on after-use condition of facilities, determines amount of refunds, providing justification as needed if part or all of refund is withheld, and processes deposit refunds as appropriate.
• Accurately processes monetary transactions including credit card transactions, issues receipts, reconciles cash and receipts, and prepares bank deposits.
• Researches, studies and interprets city and District rules and regulations related to use of public facilities, provides expert knowledge of space availability, codes and ordinances to the public on use of facilities.
• Assists with troubleshooting issues related to functionality of reservation software program, receives feedback on reservation system, and proposes modifications to program to enhance user experience.
• Distributes printed and posted material related to reservations in marketing efforts.

Qualifications:

Math Ability:Ability to use basic math to perform tasks such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers and common fractions and decimals, and prepare bank forms.

The Position

The City of South San Francisco seeks customer service-oriented individuals to join the Community Resource Team at the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center. This position is shared between the Library Department and Parks and Recreation Department and works under the direction of the Community Resource Analyst. The Community Resource Clerk will typically be stationed at the lobby desks on the first and second floors of the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center at 901 Civic Campus Way in South San Francisco, however, may temporarily be assigned to other sites, or to represent the departments at special events. This position will provide a welcoming presence by greeting members of the public and responding to visitor inquiries to assist with wayfinding in the facility and sharing information about activities in the building as well as city and other local community resources.

The Department

The South San Francisco Public Library is a full-service library committed to delivering quality services to a diverse community.  Library services are available at three sites, including the Main Library (901 Civic Campus Way), the Grand Avenue Library (306 Walnut Avenue) and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (520 Tamarack Lane).  Lifelong literacy services are provided by Project Read at the Main Library and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (GMCLC).  The City currently has one opening in this classification, for a position providing programs and services at the GMCLC.

The City of Menlo Park seeks per diem librarians to contribute to operations activities, projects and programs in the Library and Community Services Department. Per diem librarians may support a combination of the activities below depending on the needs--location of service may vary. Schedules vary based on the needs of the library system. Both Menlo Park Library locations are open on Saturdays and Sundays, and until 8pm three nights per week. Regular availability for one weekend day and one evening will be expected. Selected candidates from this applicant pool may be assigned to work at either library location. Per diem librarian positions are scheduled for less than 20 hours per week and may not exceed 980 hours within a twelve (12) month period.

Job Duties/Functions

Intermittently bends, twists, kneels or squats while shelving books, opening boxes, or moving equipment; twists and reaches office equipment; writes and uses keyboard to communicate and enters/retrieves data; runs errands; lifts or carries weight of up to 50 pounds. • Assists users in the use of computers and/or other electronic devices
• May provide or support story time sessions (children or adult,) or the willingness to learn how to provide the service
• May host/support/coordinate programs (children, teen, adult,); willingness to learn how to provide that service
• Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Provide assistance to and advise patrons of all age groups in the effective use of the Library’s collection, facilities and services; demonstrate the use of library resources, tools, equipment, and electronic reference sources; assist with digital downloads and respond to difficult or technical questions as they relate to the use of electronic resources. The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Program Coordinator in the Recreation Division of our Library and Recreation Department.  This position is responsible for overseeing operations of the Terra Linda Community Pool, including hiring, training, scheduling of temp/seasonal lifeguards, swim instructors, cashiers for approximately 100 employees, for a 9-month pool season.  The Program Coordinator will develop, implement, and oversee programing for the pool and be responsible for developing the pool schedule.  An understanding of safety, customer service, managing relationships with user groups, problem solving, and leadership skills are important for this program area.  Although an aquatics background is preferred, it is not required at time of hire.  The Program Coordinator will also support the Terra Linda Community Center with program development, special events, rentals, customer service, marketing and other tasks as assigned. 

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to and may vary with assignment):

• Provides direction to and supervises regular, temporary and volunteer staff, including selecting, monitoring, training, scheduling and determining workloads; assists with hiring, disciplinary and evaluation processes.
• Assists in the development, recommendation and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for the assigned department division(s).
• Participates in the preparation and administration of an assigned recreation center or specialized recreation program budget.
• Plans, evaluates and coordinates programs, classes, athletic activities and special events, including scheduling facilities, ensuring facilities are set up, scheduling trips and hiring coaches.
• Monitors the day-to-day operations of programs and events, including making site visits, handling and resolving complaints not requiring the attention of a supervisor and ensuring that programs and events have required materials and supplies.
• Formulates and organizes program plans and schedules for seasonal and year-round activities and special events. 
• Acts as liaison and representative with a variety of advisory boards, commissions, community groups, law enforcement agencies, schools and councils.
• Creates program flyers, brochures, catalogs and newsletters, including determining content, layout, materials and distribution methods; prepares activity and operating reports.
• Enforces safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes and building codes.
• Books facility rentals for customers; attends to facility users needs, including permits and equipment; prints weekly event schedule and ensures that all setups are done, manages facility budget, including maintenance and supplies.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

• Principles and practices of managing recreational programs for community parks, community centers, youth and senior centers, aquatic centers and/or athletic facilities.
• Recreation site management, including operations and maintenance.
• Techniques of effective supervision.
• Financial record keeping practices as applied to recreation programs.
• Coordinating and scheduling the work of temporary and volunteer staff.
• Coordinating and scheduling programs, events and activities.
• Inventorying and ordering supplies, equipment and materials.
• Interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures.
• Maintaining files and monitoring and tracking fees and payments.
• Developing interpersonal relationships with a variety of users and sponsors.
• Using computers and related software.
• Communication to interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, volunteers and the general public sufficient to convey information and to receive work direction.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Must have American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (or obtain within 4 months of hire).
• Must have American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (or obtain within 1 year from time of hire).
• Must have American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (or obtain within 1 year from time of hire).

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, physical education, leisure services or a related field AND
• Two (2) years of full-time or its equivalent of recreation experience, OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.
