DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the full journey level class in the Laboratory Technician series and is distinguished from the I level by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise.  Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

• Receives general supervision from the Water Quality Laboratory Supervisor.
• May provide technical supervision over less experienced laboratory staff as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform a variety of physical, chemical, biological, and bacteriological analyses of wastewater treatment plant samples as well as samples of sludge, drinking water, industrial waste, and other water/wastewater products.
• Set up, calibrate, and operate a variety of laboratory equipment and instruments; perform minor maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Recognize problems that may occur in an analytical procedure and troubleshoot known procedures or confer with others to identify possible problems affecting results; recommend changes to procedures, as appropriate.
• Collect various samples for analysis from specific locations according to a predetermined schedule; may collect special samples as conditions warrant; prepare and preserve samples for transport, storage, and laboratory testing.
• Prepare standard chemical solutions, reagents and bacteriological media; keep laboratory facilities clean and in an orderly condition; order supplies and make recommendations regarding equipment purchases.
• Enter laboratory data into a computer system for further analysis and reporting purposes; maintain laboratory records and prepare required reports.
• Wash, clean, and sterilize glassware and other equipment; sterilize bacteriological supplies.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of chemistry, bacteriology and the chemical sciences, including methods and techniques of laboratory testing and analysis.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible experience performing laboratory analysis duties similar to that of a Laboratory Technician I with the City of Roseville.

Training:

An Associate’s degree or 60 semester units of college level course work including 18 units in a major field of study and 21 units in general education  from an accredited college or university, preferably with major course work in chemistry, bacteriology, biology, or a related field. Two years of related work experience can substitute for an Associate’s Degree.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within 18 months, a California Water Environment Association Grade 1 Laboratory Analyst certificate.

The City of San Jose's Planning, Building and Code Enforcement (PBCE) Department is recruiting to fill two Division Manger positions in its Building Division. The Building Division is a part of the City’s Development Services team, and consists of three Core Groups. These three Groups are: Permit Center & Expedited Plan Reviews, Plan Review Services, and Building Inspection and Support Services. 

Reporting to the Deputy Director – The Building Division Managers will lead all the Division activities, participate in the leadership of the Building Division, and work collaboratively with the other City development partners. Serving as the primary interfaces between the Building Division and the development community; all Division Managers in the Building Division are responsible for:  

-Manages the fee structures analyses relative to work expenditures required to accomplish service and recommends changes to fee structures.  

-Lead and direct written budget input to balance fees for cost of required work, and submits estimates of personnel and material requirements for budget purposes. 

-Manages the enforcement of adopted codes and regulations pertaining to building construction; evaluates new methods and materials of construction. 

-Monitor the Sections’ workload and determine the corresponding staffing levels required.

-Spearhead the hiring process-Oversee the maintenance and enhancements for the automated processes and procedures of permitting system and other software such as Mobile Inspection.

-Manage, monitor and analyze revenues and time spent for delivery services to achieve cost-effectiveness and efficiency in the Sections’ budget.

-Facilitate the adoption of state building codes and regulations; develop and implement local amendments to these codes and regulations and the transition of amendments to City Ordinances.

-Transform code interpretations by the Division into written policies and prepare written procedures for Building staff.

-Forge working relationships with external customers by coordinating public outreach programs and maintaining on-going interaction between staff and external customers.

-Coordinate with other sections within the department and other departments to ensure seamless delivery of customer services.

-Leads staff in staying current with changing regulatory requirements and implements these as required by the regulatory authorities.

Division Manager - Building Inspection Services

This Division Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical Inspection Services group, trouble shooting complex field inspection issues, as well as oversight of the Section’s service delivery, staffing and budget including the management, and quality control of overall administration of one or more inspection programs and/or technical code requirements relating to inspections. The Position

The Planning and Building Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of GIS Technician I/II to provide land use-related support and services to all areas of the department.
 
The County of San Mateo Planning and Building Department is responsible for planning and regulating land use and development within the unincorporated areas of the County so that diverse and livable communities can thrive. The GIS Technician will be part of Department's diverse team of planners, building inspectors, code enforcement officers, building permit technicians and administrative support personnel that serve the County's residents, businesses, and visitors through the preparation and administration of land use plans and regulations, zoning and building codes, and by reviewing land use proposals to ensure they are consistent with those plans and regulations.

Education: Bachelor's degree in planning, surveying, engineering, computer science, or a closely related field.

Experience: I-Level: Less than 2 years of experience working with GIS software GIS automated mapping and drafting, civil engineering, land surveying, geography, cartography, or computer science, including project design, coordination and operation. II-Level: Two to three years of relevant experience.

Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ) is a 16 acre amusement park and Association of Zoo's & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo.  The mission of Happy Hollow is connecting people to nature through play. Happy Hollow features a unique combination of family rides and amusements, a Puppet Castle Theater, nature themed play areas, special events for all seasons, and an animal education and wildlife conservation program with classes and camps for all ages.

The PRNS Department is seeking one (1) full-time, benefitted Entertainment Coordinator for HHPZ. Under general direction of the Amusement Park Supervisor. The Entertainment Coordinator supervises, plans, prepares and presents theater productions, program services, and one-day internal entertainment services for Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (such as special Puppetry events).  

This position regularly works weekends, evenings, and holidays, during all climatic conditions as assigned.

 
 Duties may include the following:

• • Production of HHPZ’s Entertainment Department, including the Puppet Theater shows, special events, workshops, camps, and the park’s costume character program.
  • Produces, manages, and direct costume character/park performers’ entertainment atmosphere and collaborates with other departments to provide entertainment and artistic enhancement of attractions, in-park and off-site.
  • Interviews, auditions, hires, schedules and supervises a skill balanced entertainment staff; contributes to performance evaluations, handles training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Manages staff in the creation of show productions, puppets, scenery, costumes, props, and scripts.
  • Manages entertainment budget and grant monies ensuring HHPZ’s Entertainment Department services are properly funded; makes recommendations for budget increases and allocation of funds for entertainment services.
  • In collaboration with other HHPZ departments, prepares and distributes entertainment events outlines include: establishing staffing levels; developing timelines, estimating costs for labor and equipment; and configuring events.
  • Develops and designs new entertainment programs and updates existing programs to stay current with entertainment trends.
  • Responsible for maintaining safe and clean work environment, performs routine safety checks at facilities and watches for safety of performers and guests.
  • May coordinate and manage HHPZ entertainment activities off-site for various events.
  • Provides supervision and oversight of recruiting and coordinating the activities of volunteers in entertainment programs.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

We are seeking an innovative and proactive Building Official (Building Division Manager) with a positive, forward-thinking perspective.  The Building Official (Building Division Manager) will manage all building division functions (building permit issuance, plan check and building inspections).  The position reports to the Deputy Community Development Director for Planning and Development.

The Building Official (Building Division Manager) will assist in integrating the City’s vision and goals with the business strategy of the Community Development Department; managing, planning and organizing Community Development services, programs, and operations; developing and implementing policy; crafting and accomplishing department and City objectives, goals, and performance metrics within guidelines established by the City Council and City Manager.  The Building Official (Building Division Manager) must exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion along with political acumen and an understanding of the needs of the community.
