The Big Lift, a collective impact initiative that seeks to increase kindergarten readiness and improve third grade reading proficiency in San Mateo County, is recruiting to fill one Intern Fellow II vacancy.
 
The County of San Mateo’s Human Services Agency serves as the initiatives “Backbone Agency”. The Intern Fellow II position will support the evolving/increasing role of the Backbone Agency including but not limited to supporting the implementation, administration, facilitation of three on-going advisory councils and two working groups as well as the planning and facilitation of two annual Collective Impact Convenings and two annual Knowledge Network Convenings.

Specifics of assignment is dependent upon the department or division assigned to and level of internship. Some example duties include:

The Community  Action Program Specialist determines client’s needs for program services and provides case management and/or crisis intervention in one or more various program areas. What You’ll Do

The Community Services Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the leisure, cultural, and human services activities of the Division and providing highly responsible professional and technical staff assistance. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, organize, coordinate and direct the work of subordinates in developing and implementing a broad and diversified community recreation and human services program.
• Participate as a member of the community-based network of Human Services Agencies.
• Develop and implement changes in staffing, goals, objectives, policies and procedures to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
• Develop programs of service to meet community needs including plans for efficient and economical use of labor, buildings, equipment and materials.
• Attend meetings of and prepare reports for Commissions and Advisory Groups; provide technical and professional advice and recommendations relating to recreation and human services.
• Respond to and resolve difficult resident inquiries and complaints.
• Prepare and administer the division budget, maintaining appropriate budgetary controls.
• Administer federal, state and special project grants.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Housing Specialist I to join the Housing Division in the Community Development Department. Under direction of the Housing Officer, the Housing Specialist I will play a key role in the planning and development of new affordable housing, creating new housing programs, implementing the Housing Element, applying for grants/funding to support affordable housing, and monitoring housing legislation. • Serves as liaison with community groups to assess needs and proposes program ideas; engages patrons to solicit feedback on existing programs and identifies gaps in service; implements changes and adjustments to programs to enhance participants’ experience.
• Generates a variety of records and reports related to all aspects of programming; maintains participation logs as well as staff scheduling for respective programs and events; assists with the development of master schedule to be viewed by the public; and tracks revenue and expendi­tures.
• Assists in conducting training programs for staff in specialized recreation area including monthly in-service meetings; maintains training documentation; assists in recruiting volunteers and contract personnel; properly retains and files documents.
• Performs regular safety inspections of assigned units; initiates maintenance work orders; maintains appropriate emergency supplies and first aid inventory for facility.
• Initiates purchase orders for supplies and equipment; manages order delivery; maintains budget and documents expenses.
• May be assigned to camp programs.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• May attend and participate in councils or associations related to specialty.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED and at least 2,000 hours of relevant work or volunteer experience, at least 30 units completed in recreation or a related field. An associate degree is preferred. Must be at least 18 years old.

Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.

Summary:
Under general supervision, monitors and maintains the District’s central reservation system and main­tains schedules for outdoor facilities including fields, parks and picnic areas; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains reservation system for the District comprising of outdoor and indoor spaces; manages mobile staging and equipment to include establishing reservation reschedules, posting schedules online, and providing direct oversight of outdoor space usage.
• Responds to online, telephone and in-person inquiries from the public and co-workers, receives web and paper reservation applications, reviews applications for proper use of space according to District guidelines, determines approval/rejection of applications, notifies applicants of decisions, and files documents for recordkeeping.
• Assists in authorizing permits for private and public entities, reviews permit holder’s evidence of insurance, submits and files insurance forms.
• Accepts payments from permit holders including deposits for space, processes payments for accounting purposes, obtains information on after-use condition of facilities, determines amount of refunds, providing justification as needed if part or all of refund is withheld, and processes deposit refunds as appropriate.
• Accurately processes monetary transactions including credit card transactions, issues receipts, reconciles cash and receipts, and prepares bank deposits.
• Researches, studies and interprets city and District rules and regulations related to use of public facilities, provides expert knowledge of space availability, codes and ordinances to the public on use of facilities.
• Assists with troubleshooting issues related to functionality of reservation software program, receives feedback on reservation system, and proposes modifications to program to enhance user experience.
• Distributes printed and posted material related to reservations in marketing efforts.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• May drive a District or personal vehicle.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.

Qualifications:

The Position

The City of South San Francisco seeks customer service-oriented individuals to join the Community Resource Team at the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center. This position is shared between the Library Department and Parks and Recreation Department and works under the direction of the Community Resource Analyst. The Community Resource Clerk will typically be stationed at the lobby desks on the first and second floors of the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center at 901 Civic Campus Way in South San Francisco, however, may temporarily be assigned to other sites, or to represent the departments at special events. This position will provide a welcoming presence by greeting members of the public and responding to visitor inquiries to assist with wayfinding in the facility and sharing information about activities in the building as well as city and other local community resources.
