Central County Fire Department

CCFD is charged with a program to decrease the potential fire fuel in the Town of Hillsborough.  The WUI Specialist will be trained to evaluate fuel sources on Hillsborough properties, perform enforcement inspections for compliance with municipal code requirements, and educate residents on ways to mitigate and reduce those sources.  We are recruiting for two WUI Specialist positions, which we anticipate starting in February 2021, and continuing until approximately October, 2021.  This is a part time position, limited to 20 hours per week, and is not benefitted.

Specifics to the position are:

• May conduct public education presentations
• Under supervision, interpret various federal, state and local fire and life safety codes for the public and make recommendations as needed
• Maintain records pertaining to vegetation and defensible space inspections and actions taken
• Under supervision collect, analyze and evaluate data and prepare comprehensive reports
• Write reports based on field notes
• Issue “Notice and Order” and prepare summary information reports
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and the public using principles of good customer service
• Exercise independent judgment while working under general supervision
• Perform related duties as required

Minimum required qualifications are:

Knowledge of:

• Principles and Procedures of record keeping
• Software programs used by Fire Department staff
• Department Policies and Procedures
• Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations

Ability to:

• Understand, interpret and apply the California Fire Code, California Building Code and other       applicable federal, state and local laws.
• Detect fire hazards and code violations and determine appropriate mitigation measures
• Plan and perform field work

Education and Experience:

Highly Desirable

• Completion of at least 12 semester units or 18 quarter units from an accredited college/university in forestry, fire science, natural resource management or a closely related subject.

Or

• Six (6) months of experience with a public or private agency performing work in forestry, fire prevention, fire suppression & control, natural resource management or closely related field.

License or Certificate:

• Valid California State Driver’s License

Youth Development Leader

ABOUT THE POSITION

In working for the Distance Learning Program, individuals will have the opportunity to be a part of a team of dedicated development leaders who are passionate about the community and inspiring students to reach their full potential.

The City of Redwood City is working with schools to provide youth with opportunities to excel in school and participate in recreation activities. The City is looking for youth development leaders to help support distance learning program in planning, organizing and conducting structured academic support, recreation enrichment activities in a variety of settings selected by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. Youth Development leaders typically assist in conducting academic support and academic enrichment recreation activities, as well as assisting with two other components of the after-school program, life skills and health awareness. This position will report directly to the Recreation and Community Services Program Coordinator and will work approximately 20-28 hours per week, Monday - Friday during the school year (August 2020 to June 2021 depending on site assignment). The distance learning programs will be closed all school holidays and district-wide teacher training days.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Provide structure academic support, plan, organize and conduct recreation enrichment activities for youth.
• Supervise recreation participants, insuring that proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities.
• Maintain and care for equipment; prepare activity calendars, bulletin boards, lesson plans and/or coaching strategies as appropriate to help promote and plan activities effectively.
• Assist in organizing, promoting, directing and staffing; report to supervisors orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be 18 years of age; any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education & Experience

• Completion of 48 units of college or pass Instructional Aid Test
• Completion of AA degree or Early Childhood Education certificate is highly preferred
• A passion to work with youth
• Ability to work effectively and develop a team environment
• Some experience in a recreation setting preferred but not required.

Licenses & Certificates

• The incumbent may be required to travel between various locations during their scheduled work shift.
• Possession of a valid California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record is required.

Knowledge of:

• Leadership Techniques.
• Basic Math and English
• Specialized recreation activities.

Ability to:

• Assist students in homework and provide academic support
• Plan, organize and conduct a wide variety of recreation activities for all age groups and genders.

The City of Burlingame is looking for responsible and enthusiastic part-time Recreation Leaders to assist with the Parks and Recreation Department events and programs throughout the year.

This is a temporary, part-time position and shifts vary depending on the event or program (not to exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year).  Shifts vary between 7:00AM - 6:30PM (occasionally until 10:00PM depending on event and type of Recreation Leader). 

About the Position:

This position is under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. Leaders may be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing vacation camp programs in our K - 8 Adventure Camps.

There are (3) adventure camps throughout the year:

1. Summer Camp runs June - August
2. Winter Camp runs during Winter Break
3. Spring Camp runs during the Spring Recess as decided by Burlingame School District 

• Recreation Leaders I are typically high school students serving as assistants to the programs. 
• Recreation Leaders II are typically high school graduates/college students who are able to lead games, crafts and similar activities. 
• Sr. Recreation Leaders are typically college graduates who assume the leadership role of other staff in the programs, are the contacts with school personnel and parents, establish daily curriculum and similar duties.

 Duties will vary depending upon assignment and level of Recreation Leader.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Work at Vacation Camps
• Schedule and implement age specific camp activities for the week
•  Provide direct leadership for participants and volunteers
• Attend field trips and swim days to ensure safety of participants
• Observe and take precaution to secure the safety of participants during camp hours
• Maintain a clean and orderly camp supply closet and camp space
• May be responsible for opening and closing facilities
• Work at a variety of City special events or programs

Knowledge of:

Philosophy, methods and techniques used in planning and leading Vacation Camp programs as well as knowledge of safety, recreation equipment and materials.

Ability to:

Plan, organize, and lead a variety of recreational activities. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.  Ability to assimilate and understand information in a manner consistent with the essential job functions. The ability to relate effectively with the public.

Education and Training:

• Recreation Leader I & Recreation Leader II:  Students under the age of 18 years are required to obtain a work permit from their school.
• Sr. Recreation Leaders:  Sufficient education and experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of the classification.  A typical qualifying background would be prior supervisory and/or leadership experience working with adults and/or children in large groups.
