Job Description

Under the supervision of the Piledriver Supervisor I, the Pile Worker performs a variety of manual work in the repair and construction of piers, wharves, and related substructures by removing and replacing decayed and/or damaged caps, stringers, and decking; pulling, driving, framing, and bolting piles; burning old bolts; and repairing docks. Inspects piling underwater, wraps damaged piles and identifies severely damaged piles for replacement. Performs underwater burning, welding, and rigging for underwater projects.

For positions that require diving ability, incumbent must hold a current commercial diving certification. Diving ability includes performing underwater diving work including the ability to inspect underwater piles, wrap damaged piles, cut piles, prep and grout concrete piles, install anodes, designate severely damaged piles for replacement, perform underwater burning, welding, and rigging and familiarity with CAL OSHA regulations related to diving.

The essential duties of the 9330 Pile Worker include but are not limited to:

• Placing, driving, and capping piles.
• Placing stringers, sawing, and laying decking.
• Tearing out decayed and damaged decking, stringers, caps, and pilings.
•  Boring holes and framing timbers.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver and/or truck crane.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver by setting up, tearing down, and resetting rigging.
• Making minor repairs to piledriver machinery and equipment.
• Fabricating rigging, both wire rope or synthetic line such as block and tackles, slings, chokers, pennants, and related gear.
• Building, maintaining and using floats, pontoons, or work boats in the maintenance and repair of piers and docks.
• Building and maintaining floats, pontoons, workboats, and rafts.
• Loading and/or unloading piles, timbers, or debris to or from trucks or barges.
• Assisting the dive crew by sending down equipment and tools.
• Using international code of hand signals to signal instructions to the Piledriver Engine Operator.
• Using and maintaining pneumatic and portable gas tools.
• Operating forklifts, vehicles, and boats
• Using and maintaining a wide variety of pneumatic and portable gas tools such as drills, sanders, wrenches, saws, forklifts, torches, boring machines, and other related tools.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Some positions require diving ability - for positions that perform underwater diving, candidates are required to pass a medical qualification examination to dive and for the use of a respirator. Sustained physical effort, frequently underwater and under adverse weather conditions such as in rain, rough water, cold temperatures (water and air) and confined spaces; moving large heavy timbers; operating a skiff; and driving Port vehicles; required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and support dive gear and apparatus from 100 to 150 pounds.  

Qualifications

Experience

Four (4) years of verifiable journey-level experience as a pile worker.

For diving positions only: One (1) year of commercial construction diver experience in addition to the experience described above for a total of five (5) years of experience.

License and Certification

Possession of a valid California driver’s license (to be presented at time of appointment). Insurability under the Port’s automobile liability insurance must be maintained throughout employment.

For diving positions only: Possession of a current certification as a commercial diver by an Association of Commercial Diving Educators (ACDE) accredited dive school.

Desirable Qualifications (Ideal Candidate)

The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience with wood, steel and concrete pier construction and marine pile driving operations.
• Experience working on a barge crane conducting pile driving operations.
• Experience maintaining floating assets and marina floats.
• Experience operating boats
• Ability to identify and correct safety hazards.
• Good oral communication skills.

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card

This position requires that the incumbent be qualified for unescorted access to the Port’s Maritime Transportation System (MTS).  An application for a TWIC card may be submitted after employment has commenced.  Employment in this position requires that the incumbent undergo a criminal history check, immigration check and terrorist threat assessment, including FBI fingerprints, in order to determine eligibility for security clearance.  

The incumbent must submit an application for, successfully acquire and maintain a TWIC card. Per Civil Service Rule 110.9.1, every applicant must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the announcement for this examination. Failure to acquire or maintain a TWIC card, a requirement for this position, may be the basis for termination from employment with the Port Commission.

The Human Resources Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Mail Services Driver.  ­­­­­­
 
In general, Mail Services Drivers sort and deliver County and United States mail; operate, adjust, monitor, and maintain mail processing and related equipment; and perform a wide variety of complex and specialized tasks related to the receipt and delivery of mail.
 
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Sort mail, flats, packages, and other materials according to various categories.
• Prepare mail, packages, flats, and other materials for delivery by bundling, wrapping, and weighing.
• Operate mail processing machines such as inserters, postage metering machines, and bundling machines.
• Arrange service and repair calls.
• Maintain records of production and provide information for billing purposes.
• Deliver and pick up mail, packages, freight, and other materials to and from various County agencies and offices on foot or by motor vehicle on established routes and time schedules. 
• Lift and carry heavy packages and move mail and other items using hand trucks or other moving equipment.
• Receive and deliver locked money bags between County departments and monitor related records.
• Maintain working and storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.
• Allocate the cost of metered mail to County budget cost centers.

This position will perform a variety of responsible law enforcement and crime prevention work, including patrolling assigned areas, answering calls and complaints, investigating crimes, serving civil papers, and providing court room security; enforce all federal and state laws and local ordinances related to public safety and welfare.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Performs routine patrol duties, including but not limited to patrolling assigned areas of the County; responding to emergency calls and/or public calls for assistance; investigating disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, vehicle accidents and other crimes; checking buildings for physical security, etc.

We are seeking two outgoing and community-oriented individuals to join our Public Works department as temporary, part-time and/or substitute Crossing Guards. This rewarding and impactful position safely assists school children in crossing busy intersections by halting vehicles through the use of mechanical signals and/or hand-held stop signs; maintains order among children waiting to cross the street at street crossing points; permits street crossing only when safe to do so; reports the license numbers of vehicles violating school crosswalk-related traffic laws to Community Services management personnel or the Simi Valley Police Department; and, instills an awareness in school children of safety measures necessary for safe street crossing.

Temporary Maintenance Worker – Parks & Roadsides 

Salary: $20.00/hour

DEFINITION 

Perform a variety of general maintenance services for parks and roadsides and other areas as assigned within the Town.   

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position. 
• Flexible schedule up to 29 hours per week, which may include weekend work; not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year. The schedule for this position would be Friday through Monday. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED 

General supervision is received from the Maintenance Supervisor. May exercise supervision of Work Alternative Program participants as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES 

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:  

• Clean up trash in and around Town-maintained park and roadside areas. 
• Operate a variety of equipment, including: half ton and three-quarter ton trucks, Cushman and golf cart (or similar) vehicles, blowers and other two-cycle equipment, and hand tools (i.e., shovel, rake, hoe, etc.). 
• Periodically groom sports fields and bocce ball courts with equipment and/or machinery provided. 
• Prepare baseball fields and bocce ball courts for league play. 
• Assist Maintenance Services personnel on assigned projects.  

• Perform duties within OSHA standards.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Education: 

Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade. Graduation from high school or equivalent is preferred. 

Experience: 

Landscape and/or irrigation maintenance experience is desirable. 

LICENCE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S) 

Possession of a valid California State Driver’s License, or license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire and good driving record.

This classification is for the City Clerk (CC) and Assistant to the City Manager (ACM); due to this caveat this classification specification will list duties and responsibilities for the two (2) positions.
To perform a variety of administrative and managerial responsibilities in the conduct and management of the activities of preparing City Council agendas, minutes, and Council packets, as well as responding to Public Records request and maintaining all official City records.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Reports to and receives general direction from the City Manager. May exercise direct supervision over clerical staff.

Provides continuous leadership in carrying out the program mission, as amended from time to time, including:
• Maintains records and prepares daily reports related to work performed.
• Compile information for agenda preparation; collect background information; assemble agenda for printing; distribute packets to City Council and various agencies.
• Prepare and distribute updates and revisions of Council Policy and those of city boards, commissions, and committees.
• Respond to inquiries from the public by letter, telephone and in person regarding Council action and records; research information for public or city staff when necessary.
• Maintain administrative files including historical legal documents, resolutions, ordinances, agreements, deeds and annexations.
• Serve as custodian of the city seal and city archivist for official records.
• Process all municipal elections to County Elections Office and maintain election files for all municipal/special elections; receive initiatives and process accordingly.
• Maintain list of commissions and boards; receive applications for membership on boards and commission; publish notices for vacancies; process applications for Council selection; notify applicants of results.
• Assist City Manager in responding to various inquires related to city operations, policies, and programs.
• Serve as financial disclosure officer for Fair Political Practices Commission for campaign disclosure forms and statement of economic interest.
• Represent the department to outside agencies and organizations; participate in outside community and professional groups and committees; provide technical assistance as necessary.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other city employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Process Worker’s Compensation Claims and coordinate other confidential HR-related activities.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.
