The Police Radio Dispatcher Trainee position is an entry level training position in the Communications Unit of the Police Department. The key responsibilities for Police Radio Dispatcher Trainee include:

-Learning to dispatch police personnel and equipment on both routine and emergency calls utilizing the computer aided dispatch system, video display terminals, radio dispatching consoles, and related equipment; Answering the telephone and receiving emergency, non-emergency, and 9-1-1 requests for assistance; Inquiring, interpreting, verifying, receiving, and disseminating information from law enforcement computer networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, etc; Participating in field training exercises as needed to fully develop dispatching skills; Performing all related learning and testing activities.

These amounts include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay.

The Office of the City Manager provides strategic leadership that supports the Mayor and City Council in making public policy decisions and ensures the organization delivers cost-effective services that meet the needs of our community with the highest standards of quality and customer service. Attracting Investment in Jobs and Housing. Catalyze the City's growth to encourage a strong economy, robust housing, healthy neighborhoods, and vibrant downtown. Key programs include planning and permitting, development services, business outreach and assistance, and business district management.

City Manager Foundational Strategic Support Focus Areas

Delivering Excellent Customer Service. Ensure reliable, empathetic, and solutions-oriented customer service to meet the needs and expectations of customers as they access and navigate City services. Key programs include citywide Customer Relationship Management system implementation, customer service network, and mandatory customer service training.

Closing Racial Inequities. Implement policies and programs to eliminate racial disparities and foster an inclusive, equitable community for all people to thrive. Key programs include budgeting for equity, racial equity action plans, and mandatory racial equity training.

Structurally Balancing the General Fund. Ensure long-term financial stability by aligning revenues and expenditures to sustainably balance the City's budget on an ongoing basis consistent with City Council and community priorities.

Driving Organizational Performance. Deliver equitable community outcomes, effective program performance, and efficient operations through continuous improvement, transparency, and accountability. Key programs include City Service Area performance updates, Focus Area dashboards, and community indicator disaggregation.

Making San José a Great Place to Work. Cultivate a supportive and dynamic work environment that attracts, retains, and grows talented and motivated employees. Key programs include hiring and retention, recruitment process modernization, and workforce learning and development.The Office of the City Manager is currently seeking to fill a full-time Deputy City Manager position.

The annual salary range for this position is up to $342,687. In addition to the abovementioned compensation, this position receives an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. The final candidate's qualifications and experience will determine the actual salary.

The position of Deputy City Manager serves as a key advisor to the City Manager regarding matters related to the administration of the City and assists in the formulation and execution of complex policies and programs to fulfill the goals and objectives of the organization. The position will be responsible for a portfolio of departments related to one or more City Service Areas to assist the City Manager in coordinating, engaging, and monitoring departments, carrying out City Council policy direction, and ensuring service delivery goals. The position will also be the executive sponsor for one or more of the City's focus areas, ensuring appropriate attention and coordination to make significant accomplishments toward these priorities. Under general supervision, the Juvenile Hall Counselor is responsible for the care, custody, safety and welfare of young people detained at Juvenile Hall.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to: 

1. Observes behavior of detainees in an assigned living unit; directs detainees in the upkeep of personal hygiene, during mealtimes, and while cleaning the unit; maintains appropriate close supervision over detainees to prevent negative incidents; provides appropriate discipline; consults with supervisors regarding disciplinary problems; conducts regular state mandated security checks of rooms; monitors visiting sessions to ensure the safety and security of detainees and counselors.

2. Inspects windows, locks doors when not in use, and keeps count of all detainees assigned to the unit; administers emergency first aid pending the arrival of medical staff; responds to emergency conditions which may require physically subduing and restraining hostile detainees to ensure the safety and security of the unit and the facilities.

3. Completes incident reports, behavior reports, individual case reports, and other departmental forms and reports; maintains the unit log book to ensure adherence to legal requirements. Maintains and updates electronic databases and case management systems.

4. Conducts ongoing individual and group counseling sessions with detainees by communicating rules, policies, expectations, and consequences; listens and responds to questions, concerns, complaints, and requests; provides assistance in working out problems to assist detainees.

5. Directs leisure time activities; teaches and encourages good sportsmanship.

6. Transports residents to and from various locations; directs and controls residents’ movement to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

7. Facilitates the admittance and release process of residents.

8. Confers with departmental personnel and representatives of outside agencies.

Working Conditions:
Individuals must be willing and able to respond to emergency conditions, which may involve physically subduing and restraining hostile youth and young adults who often have the size and strength of adults.  Vision and hearing must be sufficient to perform the duties of the position. May involve considerable amounts of standing, walking and/or when necessary, running. This includes the ability to lift and/or move with assistance objects weighing up to 50 lbs or more. The Counselor may be assigned to work day, swing and graveyard shifts, holidays and weekends.

In general, Mail Services Drivers sort and deliver County and United States mail; operate, adjust, monitor, and maintain mail processing and related equipment; and perform a wide variety of complex and specialized tasks related to the receipt and delivery of mail.
 
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Sort mail, flats, packages, and other materials according to various categories.
• Prepare mail, packages, flats, and other materials for delivery by bundling, wrapping, and weighing.
• Operate mail processing machines such as inserters, postage metering machines, and bundling machines.
• Arrange service and repair calls.
• Maintain records of production and provide information for billing purposes.
• Deliver and pick up mail, packages, freight, and other materials to and from various County agencies and offices on foot or by motor vehicle on established routes and time schedules. 
• Lift and carry heavy packages and move mail and other items using hand trucks or other moving equipment.
• Receive and deliver locked money bags between County departments and monitor related records.
• Maintain working and storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.
• Allocate the cost of metered mail to County budget cost centers.

The ideal candidate will be energetic, customer service oriented, a self-starter, and a team player.  In addition, the ideal candidate will possess a good driving record, free of moving violations, have a good record of attendance and punctuality, possess exceptional organizational skills, have strong communication skills, have exceptional customer service skills, and possess the ability to work effectively in a close-contact, team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

License: Possession of a California class C driver license or equivalent.
 
Physical Requirement: Must possess the physical strength to lift boxes of supplies and mail bags weighing up to 70 pounds. Must have enough stamina to stand and walk for several hours.
 
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to qualify is the equivalent to one year of experience in sorting, routing, or processing mail and/or supplies.

Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible for the performance of law enforcement duties to protect life and property in accordance with applicable laws, to carry out special assignments as necessary, and other related duties as assigned. Out-of-State Candidates:
