GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of routine to moderately complex clerical and customer service-related duties requiring program knowledge, technical evaluation of information, and the use of clerical skills to support the operations of the assigned department.  This current part-time vacancy will reside in the City Manager’s Office focusing on Human Resources tasks.

• Assists with reviewing, evaluating, and updating forms, policies, procedures, and manuals.

Under general supervision, organizes, oversees and coordinates specialized recreational programs for the community and provides staff assistance in a specialized program area; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plans, organizes and implements specialized recreation programs for an assigned community area or group; verifies instructor availability; resolves conflicts related to activities and events.
• Promotes participation in scheduled activities and explains specialized programs to patrons; interfaces with prospective and current participants through emails, telephone and social media contacts; collaborates with marketing team to create fliers, assists in collecting information for print material, submits material for approval, and posts print advertisements.
• Coordinates the planning, promoting and implementing of programs and activities including registration and operations of special events offered by the unit.
• Participates in collecting fees for services; provides patron assistance with payments; properly stores or transfers cash monies; processes refund requests.
• Serves as liaison with community groups to assess needs and proposes program ideas; engages patrons to solicit feedback on existing programs and identifies gaps in service; implements changes and adjustments to programs to enhance participants’ experience.
• Generates a variety of records and reports related to all aspects of programming; maintains participation logs as well as staff scheduling for respective programs and events; assists with the development of master schedule to be viewed by the public; and tracks revenue and expendi­tures.
• Assists in conducting training programs for staff in specialized recreation area including monthly in-service meetings; maintains training documentation; assists in recruiting volunteers and contract personnel; properly retains and files documents.
• Performs regular safety inspections of assigned units; initiates maintenance work orders; maintains appropriate emergency supplies and first aid inventory for facility.
• Initiates purchase orders for supplies and equipment; manages order delivery; maintains budget and documents expenses.
• May be assigned to camp programs.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• May attend and participate in councils or associations related to specialty.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED and at least 2,000 hours of relevant work or volunteer experience, at least 30 units completed in recreation or a related field. An associate degree is preferred. Must be at least 18 years old.

Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to use common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers and participants and parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance. For Therapeutics unit: ability to obtain a commercial driver license within one year of employment (for a 15-passenger van).
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of a negative TB skin test.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position may provide guidance or direction to other part-time employees and to volunteers.

The Position

The City of South San Francisco seeks customer service-oriented individuals to join the Community Resource Team at the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center. This position is shared between the Library Department and Parks and Recreation Department and works under the direction of the Community Resource Analyst. The Community Resource Clerk will typically be stationed at the lobby desks on the first and second floors of the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center at 901 Civic Campus Way in South San Francisco, however, may temporarily be assigned to other sites, or to represent the departments at special events. The San Mateo Public Library is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Library Assistant I/II  in the Children Services Division at the Main Library The Library Assistant I/II works closely with the Supervising Librarian and the four merit Children’s Librarians to prepare and implement Children’s programs and services. What You'll Do

The Library Assistant I/II performs a wide variety of library support work and technical library tasks related to such activities as acquisition, cataloging, classification, circulation, and assisting patrons; and performs related work as required.  The current vacancy may be filled at either level based on experience.  Depending upon class level and assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepare print and non-print materials for introduction into the library materials collection, including use of an automated system to retrieve cataloging data and produce catalog cards; preparing and affixing identification labels and pockets to materials; pull discarded materials from catalog card files.
• Assign routine tasks and provide technical instruction to part time and other subordinate positions in area of responsibility.
• Assist in the acquisition, processing and maintenance of the periodical, microform, audio visual, business, historical, or other special collection for the library.
• Assist adults and children in locating materials in the library and in placing requests for materials not available.  Refer more difficult or technical questions to appropriate library staff.
• Handle patron complaints for overdue and lost materials; refer delinquent accounts to an agency for collection.
• Maintain statistics of library use; use computer produced and manual data to prepare reports on circulation processing, inquiries received and other activities.
• Assist in ordering and receiving books, records, cassettes, periodicals, and other library materials and preparing associated paperwork for payment.
• Perform routine clerical assignments, including typing, maintaining files, and routing mail.
• Use a microcomputer or the City's mainframe system for word processing, data file management, and statistical record keeping.
• Process incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan requests; receive and send requests via computer as well as by mail; verify requests for accuracy.
• Provide story hours to children and participate in other programs for children and young adults.
• Prepare and maintain displays and exhibits; develop artwork for publicity materials.
• Recruit and keep records of the work of volunteers in the library; screen potential volunteers and direct to appropriate library division for assignment.
• Assist and advise outreach volunteers and serve as library liaison to Peninsula Library System Outreach Service in the City of San Mateo.
• Check out library materials to patrons; check in and prepare materials for return to the circulating collection; register new patrons; collect overdue fines.
• Respond to patron in person and telephone requests for library materials, services, and information.

The Library Assistant I/II receives direction from higher level personnel.  The Library Assistant II may provide technical supervision over lower-level library positions.

• Performs basic troubleshooting on Library self-checkout machines, scanners, and genealogy equipment.
• Monitors the use of technology equipment to deter theft and/or vandalism.
• Cleans and inspects computer equipment, replaces printer cartridges and printer paper.
• Maintains an inventory of computer supplies and peripheral devices; checks out peripheral devices to patrons; submits requests for replacements when needed.
• Oversees the Internet queuing system and monitors patrons’ time usage.
• Troubleshoots printer problems and Internet access problems involving patron cards.
• Assists patrons with payment for print jobs, photocopies & faxes, handles cash and credit cards.
• Accesses patron library accounts on library software.
• Configures and operates audio-visual equipment in conference rooms for meetings and/or public functions.  
• Configures and operates basic types of computer hardware and peripherals.
• Assists library users in connecting to the internet with mobile devices, WiFi hotspots, and laptop/Chromebook computers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

THE POSITION

The Redwood City Public Library is looking for a community-centered, values-driven person who will deliver active and engaged customer service, with a focus on supporting self-service and delivering a top-notch experience for each visitor of the library. The ideal candidate will work well with others to achieve goals in a fast-paced, innovative team environment. The candidate will be friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic, creative, technologically savvy and able to consistently provide superb service to a diverse community of library users. This selected candidate will work 5-15 hours per week including nights and weekends, at any of our library facilities – Redwood City Downtown Library, Redwood Shores Branch Library and Schaberg Branch Library. 

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: 

• Greet customers when entering and leaving the library;
• Provide customer service at all service points;
• Assist customers with self checkouts and other self service needs;
• Perform library services using new technologies;
• Issue library cards to new customers;
• Collect fines and fees; answer routine in-person and telephone information questions;
• Explain library policies and resolve problems and complaints;
• Assist customers with computers and other devices;
• Follow opening and closing procedures;
• Assist in preparation and maintenance of displays of library materials;
• Collect statistics;
• Assist with preparing library materials for circulation;
• Perform routine clerical assignments and perform related duties as assigned

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael, Child Care Division is accepting applications for Child Care Aide to work in our School-Age Program.  We are looking for people who are available Monday thru Friday from 2:00 – 6:00 pm.  This is a great part-time position for someone who attends school in the morning.  No weekend work required!

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Assist Director and Instructors in planning and implementing activities.
• Assist in the supervision of children at the child care center or on outings/trips.
• Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of equipment and materials.
• Assist in the preparation and cleanup of snacks.
• Other related duties as assigned.

• Developmentally-appropriate practices and curriculum.

• Accept direction from supervisor.

• Some experience with school age children, preferably 6 months.
   

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Prefer possession of a valid California Driver’s License

Under supervision, a Police Cadet is a non-sworn, part-time classification that assists police personnel in a variety of operations in order to gain practical knowledge of law enforcement. They will obtain practical work experience that supports their career goals.

Employees in this classification may receive training and experience in each of the below duties.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Incumbents in this position are interested in law enforcement (and the Union City Police Department will provide the opportunity to learn various aspects of police work where they can integrate academic philosophies with practical experience. This position will provide incumbents on-the-job training and the ability to develop professional networking relationships for future service in government or law enforcement.

• Patrolling an assigned area by vehicle or on foot to ensure public compliance with existing parking ordinances.

• Writing warnings and citations for illegally parked vehicles.
• Observing and reporting hazardous conditions such as missing traffic signals, signs, and street markings that need to be repainted.
• Maintaining assigned equipment and supplies such as hand-held citation computers, citation books, rain gear, street cones, flares, etc.
• Performing traffic control duties such as setting up barricades and temporary signs, directing traffic, and placing inoperative bags on broken parking meters.

Positions assigned to Fleet Maintenance may be responsible for:

• Reviewing and reporting vehicle deficiencies.
• Scheduling repair of vehicles and equipment.
• Transporting vehicles and equipment to repair shop.
• Arranging for tows.
• Entering and maintaining vehicle inventory/status log.
• Coordinating service, oil changes, and cleaning of vehicles.
• Maintaining supplies such as stocking first aid kits, fingerprint kits and flares, ensuring fire extinguishers are full and appropriately charged, etc.
• Registering undercover vehicles with DMV.
