Reporting to a Deputy Director of Public Works, this position will be responsible for the development of initiatives and priorities related to Measure FF, a parcel tax providing funding to improve streets, sidewalks, safety, and the environment. Also known as SAFE STREETS, the initiative funds projects that improve pedestrian and bicycle safety while creating green infrastructure. The Principal Program Manager will exercise a broad range of authority over these critical special projects, ensuring that they remain on schedule and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. 

The ideal candidate for the current vacancy is an experienced leader with demonstrated success managing complex transportation or infrastructure programs, coordinating across departments and agencies, and managing multiple consultant teams. They will be able to support data-driven decisions by developing performance dashboards, expenditure tracking, and outcome evaluation frameworks. A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

The City of Mill Valley welcomes applications for Public Works Supervisor - Parks.

Under general direction, the Public Works Supervisor assigned to the Parks Division provides leadership and direction in maintaining and enhancing the City’s parks, landscapes, and athletic fields. This position plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises the work of a dedicated crew of seven (7) full-time Maintenance Workers who help keep the City’s outdoor spaces safe, beautiful, and sustainable.

The Supervisor oversees the daily and seasonal maintenance of high-quality athletic fields, irrigation systems, and park facilities, ensuring they meet the needs of both recreational users and organized sports programs. This includes planning and managing turf renovation, field preparation, irrigation repair and upgrades, and plumbing maintenance throughout the City’s parks and landscaped areas.

Serving as the City Arborist, this individual plays a vital role in caring for public trees and vegetation, working closely with the Fire Department, community groups, and other departments to implement the City’s tree maintenance and vegetation management programs.

Other key responsibilities include overseeing and maintaining the City’s gateway areas, medians, demonstration gardens, and other high-visibility landscape features; ensuring the effective operation of irrigation and drainage systems; and supporting the preservation and enhancement of the City’s cherished Steps, Lanes, and Paths network.

As a working supervisor, this position combines hands-on technical knowledge with strong leadership and team-building skills. The Supervisor is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing staff; fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and professional growth; and ensuring high standards of performance and service within the Parks Division.

• Plan, schedule, coordinate, assign and supervise the work of field crews and contractors engaged in parks, fields, golf course, landscapes, trees, steps, lanes and paths, and special projects work.

The Position

The Project Manager I/II plans, coordinates, and directs the implementation of capital improvement, maintenance and related projects. This includes, in consultation with assigned technical support staff, the creation of objectives, priorities, budgets, and schedules and the retention of appropriate consultant assistance to achieve high quality capital, maintenance or information technology projects in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. Acts as Project Manager for building construction, renovation, or information technology projects.  When assigned to the Clean Water Program,: plans, organizes, and reviews the design and construction of the Public Works Wastewater Treatment Plant, sewage conveyance systems and related projects; and acts as project manager in assigned capital improvement, maintenance or renovation projects. Also provides wastewater treatment operations and maintenance support.

Project Manager I is the entry level in the project management series.  Incumbents are responsible for one or more small projects in terms of dollar amount and/or technical complexity, or aspects of larger projects while learning the full scope of project management tasks.  The scope and/or diversity of project objectives and the project budget are less than assigned to the Project Manager II or Senior Project Manager level. This class is alternately staffed with Project Manager II, and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrated proficiency, which meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

Project Manager II is the journey level in the project management series.  Incumbents are fully responsible for average size projects and are expected to be knowledgeable about the normal scope of project management tasks. This class is distinguished from the Senior Project Manager in that the latter is responsible for the largest and most complex capital projects and is expected to be familiar with the most complex project management tasks.

Depending on the assignment, some duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Develop, plan and coordinate the planning, feasibility, architectural and engineering activities related to capital improvement, renovation projects, or information technology projects.
• Prepare and administer agreements for professional services related to capital or information technology projects, coordinating and directing all activities between the City and outside consulting firms.
• Prepare cost estimates, project schedules, and feasibility reports for new or modified structures, or new or modified software applications systems.
• Maintain accurate and current project budgets and manage cost and quality controls.  Develop, implement and monitor budgets for assigned areas.
• Utilize critical path or other methods to plan and evaluate progress on project tasks.
• Solicit and review bids and recommend contract awards. Monitor contractor performance, review and process submittals and change orders, retain construction management and inspection assistance as needed, and carry out related activities associated with project construction or system implementation/upgrade.
• Oversee the design and construction/implementation of projects, and function as project manager.
• Prepare and review project drawings; conduct pre-construction meetings and on-site inspections.
• Maintain needed records on assigned projects. Prepare and present comprehensive administrative, fiscal, statistical and technical studies, reports, evaluations, specifications and correspondence as required.
• Design and maintain spreadsheets and databases as needed on mainframe and personal computers.
• Coordinate programming, design, review, and construction/implementation activities with affected City departments and outside agencies. Assist in preparing needed agreements with other entities.
• Ensure that projects meet all applicable codes and standards.
• Prepare staff reports and presentations for the City Council, City commissions, boards, and committees, and for neighborhood meetings on capital improvement projects.
• Coordinate and schedule staff training and manage associate training documents and records.
• Utilize and manage the computerized maintenance management system for efficient and effective workflow processes.
• Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintain an awareness of new processes, methods, trends, and advances in the profession; read professional literature; maintain professional affiliations; attend workshops and training sessions as appropriate.

The Project Manager I/II receives general direction from a Department Head, Division Manager, Capital Projects Manager, Senior Project Manager, or Sr. Systems Analyst and may exercise technical or functional supervision over less experienced project managers, technical staff or administrative staff.

The City of Dixon is recruiting to fill a full-time position of a Maintenance Worker I/II in the Public Works Parks Division and to establish an Eligibility List for future use. 

Essential Job Functions When Assigned to Parks: Performs semi-skilled and skilled repair, maintenance and landscaping tasks involving City parks including irrigation system installation and maintenance; performs playground equipment inspection, maintenance and installation; performs graffiti removal; performs swimming pool maintenance; performs pesticide, herbicide and fungicide spraying; cleans and maintains park facilities, buildings and associated facilities. The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into several divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Read Santa Clara, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library is in the process of finalizing and implementing its new Strategic Plan that will support the direction of future library services. 

Position

Read Santa Clara, the adult and family literacy program of the Santa Clara City Library, has offered English as a Second Language (ESL) services since 2023, as part of a state grant project. The ESL Program Assistant provides 1:1 and small group tutoring for limited English-speaking adults to strengthen their basic English speaking and listening skills and help achieve their goals. This position works with and reports to the ESL Program Specialist and Literacy Program Supervisor. This position is responsible for supporting literacy volunteers, assessing adult learners’ literacy needs, and documenting program data for grant reporting.  The ideal candidate has a passion for serving adults with limited English language skills from historically underserved communities.

This is a grant funded position for 15 hours a week till June 30, 2026. The position’s continuation beyond this date is subject to the availability of grant funds.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

The Manager, Track & Structures reports to the Deputy Director of Infrastructure Engineering and is responsible for overseeing railroad track and structures engineering support for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain)

Essential Functions & Duties:

Essential Functions:

• Acts as agency lead on matters related to track and structures.
• Oversee the track and structures engineering tasks for design/construction of Caltrain Capital and SOGR projects and provide technical support for planning on grade separation projects.
• Ensure the capital and maintenance projects comply with the contract agreement and implement the approved design for compliance with JPB standards and specifications. 
• Lead the advanced technical reviews of projects to assess constructability, examine design details, perform quantity audit, and recommend construction sequencing.
• Establish effective relationships and liaise with Caltrain operation contractors, consultants, internal departments, and other agencies (CPUC, FRA, UPRR, etc.) on railroad track and structures related to influence design and project development.
• Supervise staff.  Hire, mentor and take appropriate corrective and/or disciplinary action.  Ensure EEO policies and procedures are followed. Participate in selection of staff. Coordinate staff training and professional development. Establish performance objectives. Monitor and evaluate employee performance.

Examples of Essential Duties: 

• Plan, develop and implement the group’s work plan, budget, goals, and objectives to be consistent with the Engineering Department’s goals.
• Manage the design review of project documentation such as drawings, basis of design, specifications, technical reports, and calculations for compliance with Caltrain Standards and for cost effectiveness of the design. 
• Lead development of potential solutions to the design/construction team and presents for design optimization, risk management challenges, and constructability improvements.
• Assist with Maintenance Department to develop the annual and long-term railroad track engineering and maintenance plans, coordinate these plans with capital projects and support to implement the plans.
• Review and provide technical input for capital and maintenance projects for compliance and cost effectiveness of the design.
• Perform QA reviews of RFIs and submittals as well as participate in change order review and final inspections to construction. 
• Ensure track and structures comply with all return-to-service requirements following all construction activities.
• Review and evaluate project specific designs and provide technical recommendations to design variance approval process.
• Responsible for Caltrain Bridge Management Program.
• Responsible for updates to Caltrain Engineering Standards.
• Train, motivate and monitor staff activities, provide direction, and to identify and resolve the problems.
• Provide 24/7 on-call construction and maintenance support.
• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm.  Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
