Under general supervision, the Juvenile Hall Counselor is responsible for the care, custody, safety and welfare of young people detained at Juvenile Hall.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to: 

1. Observes behavior of detainees in an assigned living unit; directs detainees in the upkeep of personal hygiene, during mealtimes, and while cleaning the unit; maintains appropriate close supervision over detainees to prevent negative incidents; provides appropriate discipline; consults with supervisors regarding disciplinary problems; conducts regular state mandated security checks of rooms; monitors visiting sessions to ensure the safety and security of detainees and counselors.

2. Inspects windows, locks doors when not in use, and keeps count of all detainees assigned to the unit; administers emergency first aid pending the arrival of medical staff; responds to emergency conditions which may require physically subduing and restraining hostile detainees to ensure the safety and security of the unit and the facilities.

3. Completes incident reports, behavior reports, individual case reports, and other departmental forms and reports; maintains the unit log book to ensure adherence to legal requirements. Maintains and updates electronic databases and case management systems.

4. Conducts ongoing individual and group counseling sessions with detainees by communicating rules, policies, expectations, and consequences; listens and responds to questions, concerns, complaints, and requests; provides assistance in working out problems to assist detainees.

5. Directs leisure time activities; teaches and encourages good sportsmanship.

6. Transports residents to and from various locations; directs and controls residents’ movement to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

7. Facilitates the admittance and release process of residents.

8. Confers with departmental personnel and representatives of outside agencies.

Working Conditions:
Individuals must be willing and able to respond to emergency conditions, which may involve physically subduing and restraining hostile youth and young adults who often have the size and strength of adults.  Vision and hearing must be sufficient to perform the duties of the position. May involve considerable amounts of standing, walking and/or when necessary, running. This includes the ability to lift and/or move with assistance objects weighing up to 50 lbs or more. The Counselor may be assigned to work day, swing and graveyard shifts, holidays and weekends.

The Sheriff’s Activities League Executive Director plans, coordinates, recommends, develops, implements and evaluates goals, objectives, policies and procedures related to youth programs; provides leadership and coordination to community groups, public and private agencies, advisory boards and volunteers in planning and implementing programs; provides highly complex staff support to senior level management within assigned area of specialization. The Executive Director receives general direction from the assigned senior level manager and will exercise direct and indirect supervision over managerial, professional, technical and clerical staff, including consultants, and contract service providers.

As the Executive Director, your responsibilities will include:

• Planning, directing, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of comprehensive county-wide services and programs, including needs assessment, program design and planning, implementation, evaluation, and regulatory enforcement.

This vacancy is specifically for the Field Operations CSO position.

The City of Foster City is looking for a dedicated and responsible individual to join the Police Department as a Senior Community Services Officer. This position requires mature judgement and discretion and is given specialized training. We are seeking highly skilled individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Under general supervision, this position supplements administrative staff and provides support for sworn staff in police operations. There are four main assignment areas for the position, but currently there is only one vacancy in Field Operations.

Field Operations Assignment:
Performs vehicle abatement duties, provides parking enforcement, performs evidence collection and processing in accordance with departmental procedures, prepares police and operational reports. Responds to subpoenas as necessary. Handle a variety of department fleet maintenance and equipment maintenance duties; run errands in support of department operations, and other duties as assigned.

Education and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

Education:  A high school diploma or equivalent with courses in office administration or specialized job training, with undergraduate college course work, specialized administrative or law enforcement education and/or training. An associate degree is desirable.

San Mateo County Health Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) Youth division has one vacancy for a Psychiatric Social Worker/Marriage & Family Therapist I/II - SPANISH SPEAKING REQUIRED to join their Child Welfare Mental Health (CWMH) team. Program Overview:

The Child Welfare Mental Health (CWMH) team serves children ages 6-17 years old and their families who have a voluntary or court-ordered open case with Children and Family Services (CFS). For all CFS referred youth, we administer the CANS, among other assessment tools. We interview the children, caregivers, and any relevant parties as part of this assessment process. Based on these assessments, we provide various therapeutic services (e.g., individual therapy, family therapy, dyadic therapy, psychiatric evaluations, etc.). We work in conjunction with pediatric nurses, doctors, and psychiatrists. When appropriate or upon CFS case closure, CWMH therapist transfers mental health services to other BHRS programs or to our network of community-based agencies/providers.

Position Description:

We are hiring a Bilingual Spanish-speaking clinician to provide assessments, brief crisis/stabilization, therapy, case management services, and treatment summaries to the court for children aged 6-17 years old. The ideal candidate will provide trauma-informed child abuse treatment and work closely with the foster care system.

Our clinicians carry an outpatient caseload and services are community-based. We can conduct therapy at our BHRS therapy offices, but mostly conduct therapy off-site (e.g., at the child’s school, homes, etc) based on what is convenient for the child/family. So, having a car to travel within San Mateo County is necessary to the work. It is important to note that for work-related travel, the candidate can choose to use county cars or if they decide to drive their vehicle, they can also get mileage reimbursement.

We serve residents of San Mateo County who are often of racial/ethnic minorities and low-income status. Our team consists of master’s level clinicians (licensed and unlicensed). Therapists have weekly individual supervision and a weekly clinical staff meeting where cases are discussed. There are ongoing training opportunities to learn skills in a wide variety of modalities (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused CBT, DBT, NMT, etc.). The work that this team does is critical for the health and well-being of many children and youth in San Mateo County. Although the work often comes with the challenges connected to trauma, it also provides a rich and rewarding experience.

Candidates have the opportunity to receive a sign-on bonus of up to $15,000. First-time external new hires, or current staff promoted internally or from other County departments into a regular Psychiatric Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist position in Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) may be eligible to receive a sign-on bonus of up to $15,000 (subject to discontinuation at any time). Tri-City is now actively recruiting for a Bilingual Administrative Assistant that will directly support our Wellness Center. 

An example of the various duties include but are not limited to:

• Performs a variety of office support duties related to the assigned work unit; gathers information from a variety of sources, including data systems & clients for the completion & processing of forms, records, & other documents. 

• Receives & screens visitors, provides general information to clients, visitors, vendors, & staff, in-person and on the telephone; assists clients by referring them to sources of information, hands out standard forms & explains how to complete them.

• Receives and responds to enquiries; provides information and answers questions; addresses requestor’s issues or concerns and/or directs them to appropriate information sources; makes appointments and maintains calendars.

• Maintains records, logs, files, & other forms of information, including various demographic reports, and room schedules specific to the assigned division or department. 

• Organizes and maintains departmental policy manuals; recommends updates to policy manuals.

• Coordinates training requests from outside agencies, including community provider and business partners; maintains training schedules and collaborates session evaluations.
