The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Associate Planner! In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform professional planning work in the Land Use Planning Division of the Planning Department or the Transportation Division of the Department of Public Works.

In the Land Use Division, the Associate Planner performs a variety of professional activities in support of the City's planning services. This Division administers zoning regulations, reviews development projects and assists the community in its efforts to plan for the City's physical, cultural, environmental, and socio-economic future. If current planning activities are assigned, work will include data collection, provision of information to the public at the zoning counter, processing development applications, and environmental review. If policy planning activities are assigned, work will include ordinance and plan revisions, data collection and analysis, and other land use studies.

In the Transportation Division, the Associate Planner works on a variety of projects, programs, and initiatives, such as developing, implementing, and updating the City's transportation plans; analyzing transportation and traffic safety data to identify and prioritize projects and policies that will improve public safety; developing Complete Streets projects and supporting the implementation of transportation capital improvement projects; and coordinating with transit providers, primarily AC Transit, on transit projects affecting Berkeley, including service planning and bus stop improvements. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this classification is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four year college with major coursework in city, regional, or urban planning or a closely related field and two (2) years of professional planning experience. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

A valid California driver's license is desirable. Must be able to attend evening meetings as required.

About the Town

Los Altos Hills is primarily a residential community of approximately 8,000 residents within an 8.6 square mile area. The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the city’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. Amenities include Centennial Dog Park, bocce ball courts, an above-ground skate park, a variety of ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic shelters and group picnic areas.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION:

The ideal Park Maintenance Worker will be able to prioritize work and coordinate multiple tasks while working cooperatively with a variety of people, consistently ensuring excellent customer service. Capable of organizing duties, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimal supervision to maintain parks and public facilities according to established standards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in park and landscape maintenance, as well as an understanding of occupational hazards and related safety practices.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains all types of landscaped areas through mowing, watering, planting, trimming, weeding, and fertilizing.
• Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
• Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chippers, and related grounds and tree maintenance equipment.
• Cleans and perform minor repairs to park and recreation equipment, buildings, and related facilities; maintains and prepares athletic fields.
• Assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems; assists in the maintenance and minor repair of power-driven equipment.
• As assigned, works extended or irregular hours.
• Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the Corporation Yard.
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience in parks and landscape maintenance work is preferred. 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

The Human Resources Department currently has an opening for the position of Senior Human Resources Analyst. The Position

 

The Senior Human Resources Analyst will oversee employee benefits programs, including but not limited to:  health and dental programs, wellness programs, leaves administration, retirement plans, etc.  This position will work with benefits program vendors, including RFPs, contract development and administration etc.  Some additional duties may also include the following:

• Participate in the development and implementation of new or revised human resources programs, systems, procedures, and methods of operation.
• Compile and analyze data and make recommendations regarding human resources programs and systems
• Assist in the development and implementation of related policies
• Participate in the preparation and administration of assigned budgets; maintain and monitor appropriate budgeting and expenditure controls.

About the role:

This is the highest level classification in the management analyst series. The incumbent will act as a lead; be recognized as a technical specialist of the various technology systems for Human Resources functions and will be relied upon to provide expert consultation to meet user needs. The Senior Manager of Human Resources leads the organization’s HR function, managing the daily activities of the Manager, HR and partnering with senior leadership to build a compliant, high-performing, and engaging workplace. Reporting to the Director of Operations, with close collaboration with the CEO, this role oversees talent strategy, employee relations, HR policies, compensation and benefits, performance management, and organizational development for our team of ~65-70 employees in a hybrid work environment. This role will supervise the HR team, build infrastructure for a scalable team, and be hands-on when needed.
