The City of Sebastopol is seeking an engaging, inclusive, and talented leader well-versed in current and long-range planning, affordable housing, and development activities, administers housing and zoning codes, and serves as a liaison to the business community, including developing economic development strategies. Under administrative direction, the Community Development Director oversees all functions and activities of the Community Development Department. In addition, the Community Development Director may also oversee the building, inspection, and code enforcement functions of the City. 

This position coordinates Community Development Department activities with other City departments, officials, contractors, consultants, outside agencies, and the public to ensure cohesive and efficient development and planning processes. The Community Development Director reflects a demonstrative cultural competency working with all community members regardless of cultural differences or circumstances including race, ethnicity, religion, language, gender identity, age, marital and familial status, sexual orientation, diverse physical and learning abilities, socioeconomic status, and other identities. This position provides highly responsible and complex professional consult to the City Manager to advance the City's planning, housing, economic development, and building and development goals and objectives and may serve as the City Manager or Assistant City Manager in either manager’s absence or as assigned. Performs related duties as assigned.

This is an “at will” classification serving at the pleasure of and receiving administrative direction from the City Manager. This role's duties allow for a broad scope of independent decision-making within legal, policy, and regulatory guidelines. It involves exercising general direction and supervision over professional, technical, and administrative support staff.

The City of Rocklin is currently accepting applications for a full-time Landscape Services Worker in the Parks and Recreation Department.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, the Landscape Services Worker performs a variety of landscapes and/or recreational facility maintenance and repair work; provides maintenance support to the Landscape Services Division; and performs related work as required. Examples of duties are:

• Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled tasks in the construction and repair of landscapes, and park facilities such as installing and maintaining signs, erecting safety structures (i.e., barricades), installing park structures (i.e., benches, tables, awnings), building and maintaining fences and removing and pouring concrete.
• Inspects assigned landscape areas for safety, appearance and vandalism.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade

AND

One (1) year of experience in the maintenance, modification, and repair of parks, medians, and landscaped areas.

License Requirements

• A valid California Class C driver license or higher with a satisfactory driving record is required at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
•  A valid California Class A driver license with a satisfactory driving record is required within twelve (12) months of appointment.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland is looking to fill a Park Maintenance Worker I/II position in the
Community Services Department. The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone
who has a good understanding of many aspects of the maintenance of facilities, parks, janitorial, and horticulture. This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time
management, and communication skills. The Ideal Candidate must be highly self-motivated,

Park Maintenance Worker I:

This is an entry-level classification in the park maintenance worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties. May be required to work any shift, including a regular work-shift that includes weekends and holidays, and routinely participate in a weeklong stand-by shift. Park Maintenance Worker I will usually exercise less independence, discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Park Maintenance Worker II:

This is the journey level in the park maintenance worker series. This class differs from Parks Maintenance Worker I in that incumbent performs more complex parks maintenance duties, including the requirement to work any shift, weekends, and holidays, to work independently, exercise judgment, and operate the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment. The incumbent Park Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Park Maintenance I level, or when filled from the outside requires prior work experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City parks, ball field maintenance/set up, and Cemetery as needed. Maintain irrigation, maintain synthetic turf, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, turf groomers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work, while all safe work procedures i.e., necessary PPE. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations.  Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that the failure of such attendance undermines the City’s ability to provide critical services to the employees, department and the public.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Applying fertilizers and spraying various herbicides and pesticides in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves, and building maintenance as required. Work cooperatively with others. Meet all Standby Program requirements; work any shift including weekends and holidays. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Park Maintenance Worker I:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of experience in the care and maintenance of landscapes or facilities.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Park Maintenance Worker II:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Park Maintenance Worker I in the City of Woodland.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a California Driver’s License. It is highly desirable to possess a State of California Qualified Applicator Certificate, Category B.

The Position

Education:

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in construction, civil engineering, architecture, public administration, management, or a related field. Occupational experience and related certificates of achievement may be accepted as evidence of required training. Additional training in management is highly desirable.

Experience:

Five years of increasingly responsible experience in building code inspection and enforcement, engineering and surveying, or code compliance, including one year of supervisory experience.

Licensure/Certification:

• ICC (International Code Council) Certification as a Combination Inspector or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire. (Per California Health and Safety Code Section 18949.28(a).)
• Registered as a Certified Access Specialist (CASp) by the State of California or ability to become registered within one (1) year of hire.

In this role, you will perform skilled inspection work with City residential housing inspection programs. You will independently perform the full scope of work in the investigation, reporting and follow-up of housing deficiencies to gain compliance with housing, building, zoning, fire, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related codes and regulations.

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Must possess:

• An International Code Council (ICC) OR California (CA) certification in Residential Building or Housing Inspection or in Code Enforcement; and
• ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Electrical Inspector certification and ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification, or equivalent ICC or CA Legacy Certification for either Combination Inspector or Combination Dwelling Inspector.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.
