The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Principal Environmental Planner in the Planning and Climate Protection Division. This is an open recruitment for two (2) full-time, represented positions.

The AB 617 Principal Environmental Planner will join a high performing and motivated team of professionals who work in deep partnership with the communities most impacted by air pollution. You will lead and contribute to the successful preparation and implementation of community-scale air quality plans in partnership with Air District staff, community members, partner organizations, local governments, the California Air Resources Board, and other state agencies. You will work to support community steering committees and other community partners determine how to best improve air quality and reduce health disparities while centering equity and addressing environmental justice. To be successful in this role, you must be a strong team player, have strong communication, project management and analytical skills, and be able to work with people of varied backgrounds and perspectives, including low-income communities of color and communities overburdened by air pollution. You will leverage your knowledge of land use, transportation, air quality, equity and environmental justice to lead and conduct research, analyze issues, prepare community centered planning materials including preparing and delivering presentations, writing summaries and plan documents, and craft recommendations to support community and Air District decision making.

Lead the development and delivery of new and innovative policies, programs and projects to accelerate emission and exposure reductions in communities most disproportionately impacted by air pollution.

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with community-based organizations, community members, local governments, regional, state and federal agencies to develop and implement local and regional air quality plans and programs.

Lead collaborative projects and programs that actively engage staff from other Divisions to advanced local community health protection goals and objectives in overburdened, low-income, and communities of color.

Coordinate the review of environmental impact assessments prepared by other agencies pursuant to CEQA and assist other Divisions in the preparation of Air District Lead Agency CEQA documents.

We're seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our Safety & Health team at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). In this position, you'll handle challenging industrial hygiene tasks related to hazardous materials and other health and environmental risks at the Airport. You'll independently conduct regular monitoring of chemical, biological, and physical agents, while also serving as a technical expert and consultant in implementing occupational safety and health regulations. Your responsibilities include assessing industrial hygiene data concerning public health matters, designing and delivering occupational health and safety training sessions, responding to and assessing hazardous materials incidents, conducting ergonomic assessments, and fulfilling any other related duties as needed.

Essential Duties: 

• Serves as a technical advisor to departmental management and other personnel in identifying, containing, and regulating the use and storage of hazardous materials; in developing and implementing inspection practices and procedures.
• Investigates and evaluates health and safety hazards and coordinates remedial action with representatives from various City and County departments, other agencies, businesses, and the public; conducts surveys of potentially hazardous workplace operations, including monitoring for physical, biological, and chemical agents, evaluating results, recommending corrective actions and preparing reports.
• Anticipates, identifies, evaluates, and controls occupational safety and health and environmental hazards for personnel working in proximity to hazardous waste remediation or hazardous materials.

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Education:

Possession of a Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health; Environmental Sciences, Health, or Management; or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Experience:

Two (2) years of professional industrial experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco classes 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher, which must have included professional industrial hygiene activities including either hazardous materials management or identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards, such as noise, radiation, asbestos, various chemicals, etc.

License and Certification:

Possession of a valid driver's license; if not a California driver's license ability to obtain a California Driver’s License within 45 days of hire.

Substitution:

Animal Care Attendants report to the Shelter Manager of Animal Care and Services and are primarily responsible for feeding, caring for, and moving shelter animals; euthanizing animals; and cleaning and disinfecting kennels and cages. Other duties may include receiving animals brought to the shelter by Animal Control Officers or the public; assisting the public in claiming impounded animals or in adoptions; completing and maintaining animal records; responding to questions regarding age, breed characteristics and treatment of animals; and explaining and interpreting animal control laws, ordinances, regulations, procedures, and policies to the public.

Animal Care Attendants are required to work weekends, holidays, nights, rotating shifts, and respond to emergency animal services assignments during off-duty hours.

Employees may work outside and be exposed to inclement weather, may be exposed to blood borne pathogens while using hypodermic needles on animals, may be exposed to animal scratches and bites, and may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors, gases, chemicals, pollens, and other airborne irritants.

This position will undergo training (4-6 weeks) during normal business hours and will be scheduled to work 5 days a week in either a daytime shift OR overnight shift ( e.g . 9:00 pm to 5:30 a m) after training has been completed. This position will be require d to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and respond to emergency animal services assignments.

DEFINITION

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Under general supervision or direction, the Operator I (Collection) is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater collections system, which includes the repair and maintenance of the sewer collection system and pump stations.
   
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Under general direction, supervises the operation of the Collections System of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on a designated shift to ensure processing and discharge of wastewater which complies with performance standards of State regulatory agencies; perform any combination of tasks involved with inspection, construction, repair, and preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of sanitary personnel; prepares logs and other records; performs maintenance tasks as required and other related duties as required.
   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

For the Collections System, ability to locate, detect cause, and correct sewer stoppages; detect and perform minor repairs and adjustments to sewer equipment; maintain pumps and related mechanical equipment; and report to work at any time during an emergency.  Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance work and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic’s tools with skill and accuracy; available for standby on sewer calls on a rotation basis; follow oral and written directions; maintain working relationships with other employees.  (See Physical Demands section as it relates to Essential Function Requirements.)

  • Repair mainline breaks, replace broken pipe and reconnect pipe sections
  • Operate power rodder, jet truck, backhoe and TV equipment
  • Conduct periodic inspections and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to wastewater pumping stations and equipment
  • Keep daily logs and records on equipment; makes reports to the supervisor
  • Provide technical assistance and prescribe work methods and safety procedures to maintenance workers and utility workers

The City of Simi Valley has a hiring opportunity for an Inventory Support Specialist.  This position is a key team member in the Sanitation Services Division of Public Works.  An Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for managing and optimizing inventory levels, conducting audits, and maintaining accurate records. DEFINITION

Under general supervision, perform various planning work, with the primary responsibility of assisting the general public on planning, zoning, and environmental requirements.  The position also helps review development and land use applications for zoning compliance, completes technical assessments and prepares written project analyses, and performs related work as required. 

The Planning Technician position is an entry-level position where technical assistance is provided to support professional staff and handle specialized project and program assignments.

Work is split between in-office and fieldwork.  Conditions involve some travel and may occasionally involve modified work hours or workdays to attend evening public hearings or weekend public outreach events.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
