The Department: 

Silicon Valley Power is a not-for-profit municipal electric utility serving the City of Santa Clara since 1896, delivering reliable and competitively priced electricity to over 55,000 customers, including many of the world’s largest data centers and technology companies. The Position: 

SVP is seeking Journey Line workers that can perform routine and emergency work maintaining and expanding SVP’s electric transmission and distribution system, including but not limited to:

• Perform electrical installation and repair work and to construct and maintain overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission system.
• Think and act appropriately and quickly in emergencies.
• Maintain good public relations.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Using electrical plans and detailed drawings.
• Input data using computer programs for documenting electric facility maintenance and inspection findings.
• Effectively train and supervise others.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including the general public.
• Walk or stand for extended periods of time and bend, stoop, reach, carry, crawl, climb, and lift as necessary to perform assigned duties.

The annual salary range for this position is $183,598.44 - $234,765.48.  This position may be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range. 

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

• Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D.; and
• Completion of a recognized three-year apprenticeship program as a Lineworker is required.

License/Certifications: 

• Possession of a valid California Class A Driver's license is required, or
• Possession of a valid California Class C license at the time of appointment and the ability to obtain a California Class A license within six months of employment.

The Water and Sewer Utilities Department is a utility enterprise that provides planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the City's water distribution system, sewer collection system, and recycled water system. The Position: 

This is the entry level maintenance position for the Water and Sewer Utility. Typically, you will be assigned to a crew, and will perform semi-skilled work on water or sewer infrastructure. This position will require odd hours and sometimes extended days if jobs run long. You will come in contact with raw sewage, working in knee deep mud, and working around trenches, often on busy city streets.
  
 Under direction, this position operates, maintains, inspects, repairs, and rehabilitates or replaces the water, sanitary sewer, and/or recycled water systems of the City of Santa Clara. This position performs heavy physical labor while performing planned maintenance and repair or emergency response for the City's utility systems and the associated appurtenances.
  
 This position requires one (1) year of related experience. Related experience may include job duties such as pipefitting, plumbing, commercial or residential construction, underground construction, landscaping, paving, steelworker, HVAC, paving, and heavy equipment operations.

THE POSITION

Under general direction of the Water Resources Division Manager, this position serves as the Chief Plant Operator of the City’s Water Reclamation Plant (wastewater treatment). The selected candidate will plan, organize, direct and manage the operation of the Water Reclamation Plant including wastewater treatment and recycled water production. They will coordinate activities with other sections/divisions/departments, external customers, regional wastewater agencies, and contractors. This position will ensure that all regulatory compliance targets are met and act as a liaison to regulatory agencies. This position requires a valid Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board at the time of appointment.

 

Position Responsibilities:

• Serves as the Chief Plant Operator for the Water Reclamation Plant
• Recommends and implements section goals and objectives
• Implements goals and objectives set by the Division Manager
• Coordinates the execution and process impacts of capital improvement projects with project managers, consultants and contractors
• Establishes performance standards, guidelines, and methods
• Develops, implements, and administers current and new programs and policies
• Sets overall process-control parameters for the wastewater treatment and water recycling facility
• Develops standard operating procedures and trains staff in order to ensure compliance with State and Federal wastewater and recycled water regulations

The City of Dixon is excited to announce the recruitment for one (1) full-time, regular position of Water Operator I. This position performs a variety of maintenance, operations, and repair work on the City's water distribution system, including pumps, mains, chlorinators, meters, and other equipment. 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Work is performed in a variety of different environments with exposure to varying weather conditions including high temperatures, rain, and wind. Work is performed with exposure to hazardous materials, smoke, gasses, and fumes; with exposure to hazards such as, moving machine parts and live electrical current; and exposure to loud and/or high frequency noise. Occasional performance of heavy manual labor; occasional standing or driving for long periods of time; use of a computer; occasional climbing, work at heights above 10 feet; working on ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and repetitive hand movement. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Constant use of overall color vision. Frequent grasping, holding, and reaching. Frequent contact with other staff, outside agencies and the general public; occasional working alone. Night, weekend, and holiday hours will be required on a rotating schedule for 24/7 standby and weekend/holiday rounds.

Substitution

Infrastructure Services Unit (Position Code 365) 
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

 

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite, after completion of the probationary period (one year).

Applications are being accepted for the position of Engineering Intern with the City of South San Francisco’s Public Works Department - Engineering Division. This is a non-benefited, part-time hourly/temporary position.

THE POSITION
Under supervision, performs sub-professional engineering office work to assist the Public Works Engineering Division teams on programs and projects that may include engineering permits, land development plan checks, procedural and standards research and development, record and asset management, traffic research and field crew assistance.

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in basic engineering principles and demonstrate proficiency in modern drafting and design practices. They should be familiar with engineering office tools and computer-aided drafting software such as AutoCAD, as well as design and GIS mapping systems.

We are seeking someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, adaptable, and self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

The ideal candidate will have willingness to learn about construction management and inspection procedures and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and drafting work. They should be capable of collecting and recording engineering field data with a high level of detail and maintaining thorough documentation. Proficiency in modern office software tools, including PowerPoint, to create professional presentations is essential. The candidate must be able to prepare clear and concise written correspondence, including responses to public inquiries, and demonstrate the ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors and the public are important. Flexibility to work varied hours as needed to meet project demands is also required.

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Performs a wide variety of responsible sub-professional engineering work including assisting engineering staff with general clerical, administrative, and technical tasks for public works projects
• Performs electronic document filing, enters data and creates reports in various software applications
• Conducts internet research and research of engineering record archives
• Processes permits and reviews land development plans
• Assists with Traffic Advisory Committee tasks
• Assists with internal and external communications and public outreach
• Learns to assist with engineering plan reviews and traffic control plans
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Education: Current student enrolled in a university/college pursuing an undergraduate degree (Junior or Senior) or graduate degree in Engineering, preferably in Civil Engineering.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License is required.
