Primary responsibilities:

Under general supervision, the Juvenile Hall Counselor is responsible for the care, custody, safety and welfare of young people detained at Juvenile Hall.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to: 

1. Observes behavior of detainees in an assigned living unit; directs detainees in the upkeep of personal hygiene, during mealtimes, and while cleaning the unit; maintains appropriate close supervision over detainees to prevent negative incidents; provides appropriate discipline; consults with supervisors regarding disciplinary problems; conducts regular state mandated security checks of rooms; monitors visiting sessions to ensure the safety and security of detainees and counselors.

2. Inspects windows, locks doors when not in use, and keeps count of all detainees assigned to the unit; administers emergency first aid pending the arrival of medical staff; responds to emergency conditions which may require physically subduing and restraining hostile detainees to ensure the safety and security of the unit and the facilities.

3. Completes incident reports, behavior reports, individual case reports, and other departmental forms and reports; maintains the unit log book to ensure adherence to legal requirements. Maintains and updates electronic databases and case management systems.

4. Conducts ongoing individual and group counseling sessions with detainees by communicating rules, policies, expectations, and consequences; listens and responds to questions, concerns, complaints, and requests; provides assistance in working out problems to assist detainees.

5. Directs leisure time activities; teaches and encourages good sportsmanship.

6. Transports residents to and from various locations; directs and controls residents’ movement to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

7. Facilitates the admittance and release process of residents.

8. Confers with departmental personnel and representatives of outside agencies.

Working Conditions:
Individuals must be willing and able to respond to emergency conditions, which may involve physically subduing and restraining hostile youth and young adults who often have the size and strength of adults.  Vision and hearing must be sufficient to perform the duties of the position. May involve considerable amounts of standing, walking and/or when necessary, running. This includes the ability to lift and/or move with assistance objects weighing up to 50 lbs or more. The Counselor may be assigned to work day, swing and graveyard shifts, holidays and weekends.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District) is a regional government agency, committed to achieving clean air to protect the public's health and the environment. About the Position
The AB617 Principal Engineer (AB617 Role) will join a high performing and motivated team of professionals who work in partnership with the communities most impacted by air pollution.  You will have the opportunity to contribute to the successful preparation and implementation of community-scale air quality plans in partnership with Air District staff, community members, partner organizations, local governments, the California Air Resources Board, and other state agencies.  With knowledge of the Air District’s permitting and risk reduction programs, you will lead the division’s participation in internal and external AB617 engagement, including communicating the role of the division; analyzing, reporting, and presenting information about stationary sources, emission inventories, permits, and risk reduction; participating in community meetings; proposing and guiding discussions on emission reduction strategies and development of plans and programs to implement environmental justice and civil rights.
 
The Principal Air Quality Engineer for the Engineering Division may perform the other complex and highly specialized air quality engineering work such as, but not limited to, processing permit applications for complex facilities; analyzing air emissions and other metadata; evaluating program effectiveness; and providing project leadership. The Principal Air Quality Engineers review, mentor staff, and provides training. The Principal Air Quality Engineer may also participate or lead complex, sensitive and controversial projects.  The incumbent in this position may provide technical presentations on complex and/or sensitive engineering activities to the Board of Directors, public, industry, or other agencies.  The Principal Air Quality Engineer will also represent the Air District while participating in working groups comprised of public, industry and other agencies. The City of Menlo Park is a great place to work! We are now hiring Recreation Specialists to provide hands-on support a wide variety of programs including summer camps, after school programs, recreation centers, community events and senior center programs for approximately 10-20 hours per week. This is an exceptional job opportunity for enthusiastic and responsible applicants to join the City of Menlo Park team and gain valuable work experience with an outstanding local government. This hourly, at-will, part-time (non-benefited) position offers paid work experience, flexible part-time schedule, and on-the-job training and support. Shifts are available mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Summer seasonal positions available.

Recreation Specialists provide a variety of hands-on support activities to an assigned program or division. Recreation Specialists are expected to:

• Provide professional and courteous customer service at all times
• Provide hands-on operational support in City recreation centers, sports facilities, afterschool and summer camp programs, and/or nutrition and food service programs
• Set up, arrange, and take-down furniture and equipment for classes, rentals, meetings, and special events
• Effectively use, learn and perform tasks on recreation software systems 
• Monitor the proper and safe use of City facilities by the general public and ensure adherence to rules and policies
• Ensure the cleanliness and safety of facilities throughout the day
• Demonstrate proficiency with word processing, data entry and organization

Depending on the specific work assignment, Recreation Specialists also are responsible for:

• Handling money and electronic transactions
• Organizing class sign in sheets
• Monitoring, organizing, and running community programs
• Basketball, volleyball and softball scorekeeping
• Leading children in organized afterschool and summer camp programs and activities
• Food preparation and food service in City nutrition programs.
