Under direct supervision, Wastewater Collection Systems Workers perform a variety of routine to skilled work in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of City infrastructure, including wastewater collection, stormwater and drainage, and related systems. The successful candidate will use and operate a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power-driven equipment to perform skilled and specialized work on drainage, collection, and related systems, and appurtenances, and performs related work as required. The department may hire at either the I or the II level depending on the skills, certifications, licenses held by candidates in the pool of qualified applicants.

Salary Range (five steps):

Park Ranger I  $29.15 - $35.43/ hour; $5,052 - $6,141/ month

Park Ranger I

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs skilled and unskilled maintenance duties and patrol; encourages the safe and effective promotion, protection and utilization of park resources and open-space preserves; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Patrols park areas to promote an orderly and congenial atmosphere among park visitors; issues warnings and citations for non-compliance of local park regula­tions and, if needed, utilizes law enforcement agencies to achieve compliance.
• Constructs, maintains and repairs trails, bridges and buildings using hand and power tools or mechanized equipment.
• Interprets and explains park policies, rules and regulations to the public; answers inquiries and complaints concerning park conditions, operations and maintenance.
• Conducts interpretive programs and outdoor activities; describes the natural features of the open- space area to visitors.
• Maintains stream crossings, hiking, biking and equestrian trails utilizing tractors and specialized trail-building equipment.
• Participates in custodial, carpentry, plumbing, maintenance and cleanup of park and open-space   structures and grounds.
• Plans, develops, coordinates and executes work programs and resource management projects.
• Assists in maintaining park water distribution and irrigation systems.
• Maintains park areas to reduce fire hazards and performs fire fuel-reduction activities, as necessary.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Administers emergency first aid to sick or injured park visitors.
• May be required to drive District or personal vehicle.
• May operate heavy motorized equipment.
• Participates during disaster or when emergency response is needed.
• Non-exempt employees may be required to work overtime.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: an Associate of Science degree with work in natural resources or a closely related field, and one year of experi­ence in trail care, protection of flora and fauna, public facilities care, law enforcement and interpretation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common professional and technical journals and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from visitors. Ability to write routine reports and present information to the public.

Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumferences and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification as a limited peace officer of the State of California (P.C.832).
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• All full-time candidates require completion of a pre-employment functional capacity examination.

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff. Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (either Mondays/Tuesdays off OR Thursdays/Fridays off).  Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

THE POSITION

The City is currently seeking General Maintenance Workers. This temporary position works with the City’s maintenance staff to perform: unskilled labor in the parks and landscape medians, street and sidewalk maintenance, street sign maintenance, and building maintenance. Duties include, but are not limited to: raking, emptying trash cans and litter removal, irrigation repair, weeding, edging, street sign maintenance and graffiti removal. Work is closely supervised; work methods are explained in specific terms and work is subject to frequent review. 

Incumbents must possess the physical and mental capacity to work under the conditions described in this document and to perform the duties required by their assigned position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in landscaping, street and sidewalk maintenance, and building maintenance, as well as safety practices and precautions to be used in work.
• Skill in operating hand and power tool equipment such as rakes, pick and shovel, etc.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and to follow oral and written instructions. Intermittently, sit while studying or listening to training; bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist when performing maintenance, repair, or installation tasks; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; and lift or carry heavy weights up to 90 lbs.; work in conditions of various outdoor exposure.
• Capable of working independently.

• Driving a city truck is required for the position and the applicant must have an acceptable driving record, subject to California DMV pull records.

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking highly motivated and results-oriented Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II/Trainees for the Water and Wastewater divisions of the Public Works Department.  Applications are currently being accepted to fill two positions at the Municipal Service Center in the Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks (one each in Water and Wastewater). SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Street Maintenance Operator I: This is the entry level class in the Street Maintenance Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Street Maintenance Operator II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Street Maintenance Operator II: This is the full journey level class within the Street Maintenance Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Street Maintenance Operator I by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Handle complaints and answer questions from the public.

Glenn County is recruiting individuals to fill three full time and multiple Part Time/ Extra Help positions in the Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker III position is the journey-level class in the series, and is distinguished from the Public Works Maintenance Worker II by the primary responsibility to operate heavy diesel and gasoline-powered construction equipment in the maintenance of roadways, drainage systems. 
 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Prepares roads for patch repairs, overlays, or chip seals; prepares mix for patching roads; repairs and reconstructs roads.
• Cleans roadsides and drainage systems; inspects and clears debris from drainage systems; conducts roadside burning as needed.
• Prunes trees and other vegetation as needed.
• Directs and controls traffic around work sites.
• Operates semi-trucks, dump trucks, water trucks, boom truck, front loader, rollers, snow plow, etc.; operates a compressor, sand blasters, jack hammer, chipper machine, welding equipment, cutting torch, compaction tools, weed eater, blower, and other hand and power tools.

I-   $18.29 - $22.24 Per Hour
II-  $19.70 - $23.94 Per Hour

LIBRARIAN I or II, ADULT SERVICES (SPANISH BILINGUAL PREFERRED) – ROSELAND

40 HOURS PER WEEK – FULL TIME 

We are seeking an energetic, team-oriented Adult Services Librarian with a strong public service commitment for our Roseland Regional Library. Spanish bilingual skills are preferred. The ideal candidate will be comfortable conversing in both English and Spanish in order to provide library service, outreach and programming for patrons from diverse backgrounds.

Under general supervision, this position provides excellent customer service while performing a variety of professional adult library services, including reference, reader’s advisory, collection development, event planning, outreach, digital literacy training for the public, and performs related work as assigned.
 
TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

• Provides general reference and reader’s advisory services
• Explains library policies and procedures to patrons and staff
• Assists, advises and instructs patrons on the use of library materials and equipment, including automated catalogs, the Internet, various software, eBooks and audio book reading and listening devices and digital literacy in general
• Conducts reference searches using a variety of database, online, and other search techniques
• Helps to maintain and select the addition of books, reference materials, CD’s, DVD’s, electronic media, and other library materials
• Assists at the Circulation Desk when needed.
• Assists in and/or directs the preparation of exhibits and the organization and presentation of a variety of programs and events, as well as forming community partnerships for co-events
• Leads book discussion groups
• Promotes the Library out in the community, at schools, and events, and provides written outreach through community publications as well as press releases and other promotions; may represent the Library in meetings with the community or special interest groups
• Helps to maintain social media connectivity to the library public.
• Works collaboratively with staff, the community and special interest groups.
• The Librarian II performs all of these tasks but at a more difficult, higher level. May serve as Person-in-Charge when Branch Manager is absent.
