The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Ranger is a challenging generalist position offering a wide variety of responsibilities and opportunities to exercise independent judgment while working on Midpen preserves. Rangers patrol on foot, in all-terrain vehicles, on motorcycles, and in four-wheel drive patrol trucks. Rangers ensure safe public use of preserves and provide visitors information while enforcing Midpen land use regulations and applicable laws. Rangers also respond to emergency calls including medical aid and wildland fires. Rangers provide public relations, interpretive services, and perform limited maintenance and resource management work on Midpen properties and facilities. Peace Officer Standards for Rangers: Applicants must meet the standards for being a California Peace Officer as outlined in Government Code Section 1031. Probationary Ranger employees must complete Midpen’s requirements for training of Peace Officers by attending and successfully completing a Midpen approved law enforcement academy by the end of their probationary period, unless they have recently successfully passed an equivalent academy, and possess or have the ability to obtain a California Penal Code 832 certificate.

Basic Job Requirements: Must have the ability to enforce pertinent laws and regulations; administer first aid and CPR; operate and maintain various power tools and equipment; operate emergency patrol vehicles and two-way radios; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; and perform wildland fire suppression duties as needed.

Certificates Needed: A valid California driver license; valid professional rescuer CPR certificate and Medical First Responder or equivalent; a Midpen approved Fire Suppression Training certificate; certification in the Incident Command System courses as specified under the National Incident Management System (NIMS) or, the ability to obtain required certificates prior to completion of the employment probationary period.

Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to an Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in law enforcement, resource management, natural sciences, or a related field and one (1) year of experience in the protection, operation, or maintenance of a park, forest, public recreation area, or the equivalent. Experience or training in wildland firefighting and law enforcement is desirable.

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform all related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Shift schedules may include evening, weekend, and holiday hours.

THE POSITION

To perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled horticulture tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of parks, pools, recreation, and cemetery facilities and buildings

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a temporary/part-time Intern position.   Work hours vary by assignment and may be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays.  Position typically works 25-30 hours per week seasonally, Spring to early Fall.  

Temporary/Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per Fiscal Year. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City park and recreation sites as needed. Water, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Works as a member of the City pest control crew spraying various fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other related chemicals in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, conduits, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves.  May assist in street maintenance, building maintenance, or other public works projects, as required. Work cooperatively with others. Meet all Standby Program requirements, take standby duty, work any shift including weekends and holidays. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  No experience is required for the Intern position.

Licenses:  Required upon hire, possession of a California Driver’s License.

The Recreation Leader II position is responsible for providing high-level programs and services through the Parks and Recreation Department which provide concrete, positive experiences for youth and which promote qualities that are essential to raising successful young people. Recreation Leaders (II) are responsible for creating and implementing the curriculum for the Town’s recreation programs which offer youth daily activities, including arts, crafts, games, field trips, and special events.  This position is responsible for supervision of part-time staff and program participants. This position may also work additional seasonal events for the Parks and Recreation Department throughout the year.

School year position: Support and assist students with homework, long-distance learning plans, and provide supplemental enrichment activities and supervised outdoor opportunities.

Must be available 20+ hours per week between the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey level class in the Tree Trimmer series and is distinguished from the I level by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.

This class is distinguished from the Senior Tree Trimmer in that the latter performs advanced journey level work and provides technical and functional supervision to assigned staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives immediate supervision from an assigned supervisor; receives technical and functional supervision from the Senior Tree Trimmer or Arborist Technician.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Using aerial lift and through skilled climbing, trim and structurally prune trees to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs and lights as well as to ensure the continued health of the trees.
• Perform tree trimming using chainsaws, hand/pole saws and loppers; remove trees, stumps, hangers, branches and related debris; perform stump grinding and plant healthcare duties.
• Plant, spray, stake and maintain trees on City owned property and in the public right-of–way.

• Clean, sharpen, maintain tools, ropes, and other tree maintenance equipment.

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree.

License or Certificate

• Possession of a valid California driver’s class B license by date of promotion or appointment.

THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Youth & Family Services Clinical Supervisor, the Intervention Counselor provides crisis intervention and individual and family counseling; identifies appropriate referral services to youth, families and individuals; participates in department and community meetings as necessary.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

• Provide individual, family and group counseling to children, adolescents, and adults using a variety of therapeutic and counseling techniques.  

• Provide crisis intervention services around a variety of issues including: incorrigible youth/status offenders, child/adult abuse, domestic violence, trauma, individuals experiencing mental health issues, and families in conflict; may conduct visits at homes, schools, and juvenile detention centers.  

• Conduct assessments to identify appropriate resources, provide referral services and connect clients with additional services as needed; May receive, process and track all incoming case management, outreach, and counseling referrals as needed. 

• Develop and maintain relationships with other social welfare agencies and organizations.

THE POSITION: Under close supervision, perform unskilled manual and semi-skilled manual park maintenance work, and perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

• Assist in mowing, edging, pruning, fertilizing, and seeding
• Support to irrigation or watering functions
• Trenching

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent should have the ability to read, write, and carry out oral and written directions, maintain cooperative work relationships, and operate various park maintenance equipment. This is seasonal work which will include weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the department.

County of San Mateo Health System is excited to be able to offer a unique job opportunity to well-qualified individuals for the position of Supervising Nurse Practitioner (Supervising NP) as part of the County of San Mateo Obstetrics and Gynecology team. This is a full-time, benefited position.
 
The successful hire will receive direction from the Medical Director of Specialty Care and will exercise supervision over assigned Obstetrics and Gynecology NPs, who are located in three clinics (San Mateo Main Campus, Coastside Clinic, and Fair Oaks Health Center). The supervisory scope includes quality improvement, program development, on-site and remote supervision of nurse practitioners, and continuing partnership with the contracted Obstetrics and Gynecology group. This classification is distinguished from the Nurse Practitioner Series for having full administrative supervisory responsibility over other Nurse Practitioners. Clinical supervision of assigned staff is provided by the medical director, supervising physician, contracted physician and/or manager.
 
The Practitioner will work within all clinical areas that serve our Obstetrics and Gynecology patients. Work may include both clinical and administration support throughout San Mateo Medical Center. Examples Of Duties: 
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Work with our contracted Obstetrics and Gynecology Physician group in establishing and meeting quality metrics and goals for patient care
• Establishing workflow process and standardizing the clinical practice throughout San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) system.
• Supervise the Nurse Practitioners that work in the all Obstetrics and Gynecology clinics in SMMC, this includes selection, performance evaluation, and corrective action.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, their families, hospital staff, community organizations and others.
• Work with our Quality process (LEAP) to have meaningful, data driven improvements in work flow and quality.
• Work with Core team in each location to standardize and ensure best use of resources to meet patient quality care.
• Work with referring providers to improve referring patterns and communications throughout SMMC.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS 
Knowledge of: Principles of personnel training, supervision and evaluation, as well as hiring and selection; principles, practices and procedures used in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of common health problems as related to the clinical specialty; laws, statutes, codes, and regulations related to the specialty area which govern health service providers, and Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements; fundamentals of clinical medicine as related to the clinical specialty of the Clinic or Service; drugs commonly used in the area of specialty including the indications of their use, anticipated therapeutic effect, side effects and untoward reactions and contraindications; safety and infection control practices and procedures; normal and abnormal values of laboratory tests and their clinical significance; operations and care of medical equipment and instruments used in the area of specialty; laws and regulations pertinent to the practice of nursing and medicine applicable to assigned specialty; community resources and referral systems; and provisions of the Nurse Practice Act. 

Skill/Ability to: Supervise and coordinate administrative and operational activities related to assigned clinic or program; coordinate activities with other departments or programs within the Medical Center and the County; direct and participate in the analysis of a wide variety of moderate to complex operational problems and make effective operational and/or procedural recommendations; interpret policies, guidelines and procedures; develop recommendations for improvements, as necessary; supervise, evaluate and train assigned personnel; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; assess the health status of patients; provide health care services including the taking of a complete medical history, doing complete physical examination and other related clinical procedures; identify and manage health problems common in the area of specialty; develop and implement treatment plans for patients according to policies and protocol; analyze and interpret health information/data including results of laboratory testing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, professional staff and others; follow safety practices and procedures; and maintain accurate records and preparing reports. 

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is three years of practice within specialty area or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
 
Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a California license as a Registered Nurse.
• Possession of a California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Nurse Practitioner Certification.
• Possession of a California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Furnishing Number.
• Possession of a DEA Number.
