The Water Resources Division is comprised of three sections: Potable Water Supply and Engineering (Municipal Water System), Water Recycling (South Bay Water Recycling), and Systems Operations and Maintenance. The Water Resources Division provides potable water service through the Municipal Water System to the communities of Evergreen, North San Jose/Alviso, Edenvale, and Coyote.  The Water Resources Division also provides recycled water service through the South Bay Water Recycling program and system to the Cities of San José, Santa Clara and Milpitas. In addition, the Water Resources Division also leads water conservation efforts for the City of San José.   

Under minimal direction, the Principal Construction Inspector performs work of considerable difficulty including contract administration, technical inspection of the construction of water utility and other general public works related infrastructure, and supervision on a unit of construction inspectors and other related staff.  

This position will manage inspection of potable and recycled water system construction projects both within the City limits and in other jurisdictions, including reviewing plans and specifications for conformance to established engineering standards and regulatory requirements; consult with public and private engineers, architects, community groups, contractors and developers relative to the construction of potable and recycled water system improvements; and ensure proper implementation of the cross connection control program.  

The Principal Construction Inspector duties typically include: Supervises, guides, and supports a team of staff; creates and implements a workplan to ensure sufficient coverage of all inspection and related needs; personally conducts inspections of construction projects, and completes spot check inspections on other projects; coordinates work of the inspection staff with the project engineers, contractor and the public. Provides input and suggestions on utility design plans; reviews project submittals for materials and equipment and ensures compliance with City Specifications and project plans/specifications; makes recommendations regarding update and revision of standard design details and notes. Keeps current on relative rules and regulations, and ensures that construction practices comply as required. Reviews and interprets construction plans and specifications; directs construction contractors and enforces corrective actions where needed; signs final completion notices. Creates and documents procedures to guide subordinates; trains and evaluates work of subordinates; reviews completed work and prepares required records and reports. Meets with representatives from engineering, police, public, and other jurisdictions on traffic control problems and other construction related issues and performs related work as required. Provides oversight, direction, and support for staff implementing the utility’s cross connection control program.  

Additionally, the goal of this position is to establish new procedures and methods which improve efficiency and effectiveness in the operation, repair, and maintenance of water utility infrastructure; the training of inspectors in inspection practices to assure high standards; ensuring that street excavations by construction companies meet City requirements and are properly restored;  developing and implementing quality control, quality assurance, and project documentation procedures; ensuring quality workmanship and quantity control on each project through an effective inspection program.

The City of Lincoln is hiring for the position of Code Enforcement Officer I/II within the City Manager’s Office.  Under general supervision, learns to perform and performs residential, commercial and industrial site inspections and investigations to determine compliance with applicable federal, state and local codes, laws and regulations; performs other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Code Enforcement Officer I is the entry level class in the code enforcement series that allows the incumbent to develop journey level knowledge and abilities. Initially, under immediate supervision, incumbents perform the more routine and less complex code enforcement assignments while learning City policies and procedures.  As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This classification is alternatively staffed with Code Enforcement II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating a level of proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

The Code Enforcement Officer II is the journey level class in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full scope of assigned duties. Incumbents are responsible for performing the full range of inspection and code enforcement responsibilities involving codes and regulations in a broad range of areas, including zoning, building, fire, health and safety. The work requires independence and discretion in working with the public and in conducting field inspections, and involves a proactive implementation of applicable codes and regulations. This classification is also distinguished from the Building Inspector class by the performance of duties primarily related to zoning and code violations.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

The Code Enforcement Officer I receives immediate supervision from the City Attorney. Incumbents of this classification do not routinely exercise supervision.  The Code Enforcement Officer II receives general supervision from the City Attorney. This position may exercise technical and function supervision over assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Including, but are not limited to the following

• Performs residential, commercial, industrial and site inspections; determines existence and type of code violation; compiles, analyzes and evaluates findings of investigations and inspections; coordinates with property owners or their representatives and other regulatory agencies to take corrective action; performs follow-up inspections and investigation as required; ensures compliance with all applicable municipal codes and regulations; issues administrative citations for noncompliance.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when making inspection, reading written reports and work-related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold. Incumbents may frequently deal with irate members of the public. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to drive motorized vehicles, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

The City of Sunnyvale invites applications for Public Safety Dispatcher in Training.  Under supervision and in a trainee capacity, processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire-fighting, medical, rescue, animal control or other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD); and, performs other related duties as assigned.

Public Safety Dispatcher-In-Training is the entry and trainee level in the public safety dispatcher series. Under close supervision, incumbents are trained in dispatching techniques, equipment and protocols. Work assignments change frequently in order to facilitate training. Employees are subject to daily and weekly observation reports until they demonstrate the ability to perform independently. This classification is distinguished from the higher level Public Safety Dispatcher in that the latter is the fully trained, journey level classification in the series.

This is an alternately staffed classification. Public Safety Dispatcher-In-Training incumbents are required to achieve the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to advance to the Public Safety Dispatcher level within the twelve-month probationary period.

THE POSITION

To perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled horticulture tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of parks, pools, recreation, and cemetery facilities and buildings

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a temporary/part-time Intern position.   Work hours vary by assignment and may be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays.  Position typically works 25-30 hours per week seasonally, Spring to early Fall.  

Temporary/Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per Fiscal Year. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City park and recreation sites as needed. Water, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Works as a member of the City pest control crew spraying various fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other related chemicals in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, conduits, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves.  May assist in street maintenance, building maintenance, or other public works projects, as required. This class is distinguished from the Senior Tree Trimmer in that the latter performs advanced journey level work and provides technical and functional supervision to assigned staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives immediate supervision from an assigned supervisor; receives technical and functional supervision from the Senior Tree Trimmer or Arborist Technician.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Using aerial lift and through skilled climbing, trim and structurally prune trees to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs and lights as well as to ensure the continued health of the trees.
• Perform tree trimming using chainsaws, hand/pole saws and loppers; remove trees, stumps, hangers, branches and related debris; perform stump grinding and plant healthcare duties.
• Plant, spray, stake and maintain trees on City owned property and in the public right-of–way.
• Operate tree trimming and maintenance equipment such as boom trucks, chippers, stump grinders, and power tools, such as chain saws and hydraulic loppers.
• Clean, sharpen, maintain tools, ropes, and other tree maintenance equipment.
• Collect debris from tree trimming and removal operations into piles, using shovels, rakes, or other tools.
• Load debris onto trucks or into chipper and haul it away for disposal.
• Inspect trees for public safety and wildlife; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
• Identify equipment needs for each assigned project.
• Utilize proper safety precautions related to work performed.
• Work multiple shifts during emergencies, seasonally caused circumstances, or special projects in varying climate and temperature conditions.
• Perform general natural resource maintenance work when not assigned to tree trimming duties.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Operate tree trimming and maintenance equipment such as boom trucks, chippers, stump grinder, dump trucks, and power tools, such as chain saws and hydraulic loppers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree.

License or Certificate

• Possession of a valid California driver’s class B license by date of promotion or appointment.

• Using aerial lift and through skilled climbing, trim and structurally prune trees to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs and lights as well as to ensure the continued health of the trees.
• Perform tree trimming using chainsaws, hand/pole saws and loppers; remove trees, stumps, hangers, branches and related debris; perform stump grinding and plant healthcare duties.
• Plant, spray, stake and maintain trees on City owned property and in the public right-of–way.
• Operate tree trimming and maintenance equipment such as boom trucks, chippers, stump grinders, and power tools, such as chain saws and hydraulic loppers.
• Clean, sharpen, maintain tools, ropes, and other tree maintenance equipment.
• Collect debris from tree trimming and removal operations into piles, using shovels, rakes, or other tools.
• Load debris onto trucks or into chipper and haul it away for disposal.
• Inspect trees for public safety and wildlife; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
• Identify equipment needs for each assigned project.
• Utilize proper safety precautions related to work performed.
• Work multiple shifts during emergencies, seasonally caused circumstances, or special projects in varying climate and temperature conditions.
• Perform general natural resource maintenance work when not assigned to tree trimming duties.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Safety rules and work practices used in operating and maintaining tree maintenance equipment.
• Uses and purposes of tools and equipment related to tree trimming and maintenance.
• Basic methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in trees maintenance.
• Basic principles and practices of record keeping.

Ability to:

• Perform skilled tree trimming and maintenance work; climb trees at heights necessary to perform trimming activities.
• On a continuous basis, know and understand tree trimming and removal operations; observe safety rules.
• Intermittently, sit at a desk while studying or preparing reports; twist to reach equipment or materials; stand, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, climb, crawl, and bend while performing tree trimming and removal duties; perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; and lift or carry weight of 50 pounds or less.
• Use and operate vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment, hand power tools, mechanical equipment, and equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.
• Prepare and maintain simple records of activities.
• Perform heavy physical labor.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Community clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Experience and Training

Experience:

• No experience is required; experience in basic methods and techniques used in tree trimming and maintenance and/or ISA best management practices for tree planting and pruning is highly desirable.

Training:

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree.

License or Certificate

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment.

SELECTION PROCESS

The City of Rocklin is now accepting applications for Public Safety Dispatcher II (lateral) for the City’s Police Department to perform a variety of duties in receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and relaying calls for emergency and non-emergency public safety assistance; dispatching appropriate units and coordinating responses of emergency personnel; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer aided dispatch systems; and performing  a wide variety of specialized duties involved in emergency communications.

The Public Safety Dispatcher II is the full journey level class within the Public Safety Dispatcher series.  Employees within this class are distinguished from the Public Safety Dispatcher I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including providing technical and functional supervision to the Public Safety Dispatcher I.  Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.  Public Safety Dispatchers are required to work various shifts to meet the needs of Rocklin’s state-of-the-art emergency communications center.
