The City of San Rafael Library and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the position of Facilities Attendant (two part-time/temporary positions available).  This position provides customer service to renters and program participants while assisting with the supervision of front counter/reception area, set up and breakdown equipment for scheduled activities, custodial and cleaning including but not limited to emptying trash, vacuuming, cleaning windows, cleaning restrooms, etc.; opening and securing facility before and after building use and interacting with instructors, clients, and the general public.  Bilingual in Spanish is desired. 

Qualifications:

• Ability to provide good customer service to instructors, clients, and the general public.
• Ability to use a variety of cleaning equipment and materials.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
• Ability to follow written and oral directions.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends and some holidays.

THE POSITION:

The San Rafael Fire Department is recruiting for one full-time Fire Inspector I/II position.  Appointment will be made at the appropriate level depending upon qualifications.  Under supervision from the Deputy Fire Marshal, this position reviews, inspects, and investigates for fire prevention related activities; inspects fire protection systems, construction sites, occupancies, structures, buildings, and storage and usages to ensure an appropriate level of fire protection and compliance with applicable state and local ordinances, and with nationally recognized fire protection standards; investigates and reviews a variety of fire-related issues; enforces the fire and building related codes and other aspects of the municipal code relating to construction, code enforcement, and building inspection; conducts field inspections for compliance with fire and life safety standards; conducts plan reviews; and does related work as assigned. 

Fire Inspector I:  This is the entry-level class in the Fire Inspector series.  Employees at this level perform more routine tasks and duties which do not require prior specialized experience.  Generally, work is supervised and reviewed both during performance and upon completion under the direction of the Fire Inspector II or the plans examiner positions.  Employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience.

Fire Inspector II:   This is the journey-level class in the Fire Inspector series.  Employees at this level are expected to perform the full range of fire prevention inspection duties and operate under general supervision.  Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.  This level requires substantial prior fire prevention training and inspection experience.

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

Fire Inspector I:

• Interpret and enforce provisions of fire prevention and fire safety laws, City and State ordinances and other regulations.
• Perform periodic inspections of new and existing buildings, structures and installations requiring fire clearances; identify fire hazards; recommend corrective actions; perform follow-up inspections to see that corrective actions have been taken.
• Investigate complaints pertaining to violation of fire prevention laws; issue correction orders as necessary.
• Perform tests on water flow sprinkler and fire alarms and elevator return systems.
• Prepare accurate records and reports.
• Participates in fire investigation efforts.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Fire Inspector II: (In addition to the duties for Fire Inspector I)

• Provide training, direction and review the work product of the Fire Inspector I.
• Provide information to the public concerning fire prevention practices and procedures; assist in training programs and group presentations relative to fire prevention.
• Instruct fire suppression crews about code interpretation and inspection techniques regarding fire prevention.
• Check building plans for code compliance; consult with architects and developers regarding problems and solutions.
• Review plan submittals for fire suppression and alarm systems, calculate fees, and issue Fire Permits, and perform required inspection of those systems to assure compliance.
• May participate in fire investigation in cooperation with the Fire Department.

To be eligible for this position, you must have knowledge of/ability to:

Fire Inspector I:

• Principles, practices, and techniques of fire prevention.
• Principles and techniques of building inspection work.

Fire Inspector II: (In addition to the duties for Fire Inspector I)

• Principles, practices, techniques and equipment for fire suppression.
• Building construction practices.
• Procedures and techniques for operation and testing equipment such as fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems and alarm systems.
• Perform journey-level fire prevention inspection skills for a variety of buildings, structures, and installations.
• Perform annual maintenance inspections of commercial occupancies and assist engine companies with more difficult commercial inspections.
• Perform plan reviews of building plans as well as plan submittals related to fire permits and assist the Fire Plans Examiner as needed.
• Identify fire hazards and recommend corrective actions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: 

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Fire Inspector I:

• One year or more of responsible experience in a variety of building construction or related inspection work that may include working with fire prevention regulations.
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by college level fire science or prevention classes.
• Possession of a California Class “C” drivers license, and satisfactory driving record.
• Maintenance of a California driver’s license is a condition of employment.
• Possession of a Fire Science Certificate is desirable.

 Fire Inspector II:

• A minimum of three years of increasingly responsible fire prevention inspection experience.
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by college level fire science or prevention classes.
• Fire suppression experience is desirable.
• Possession of a California Class “C” driver’s license, and satisfactory driving record.
• Maintenance of a California driver’s license is a condition of employment.
• Possession of one or more of the following is required:
• Fire Science Certificates 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A, 2B, 2C
• Certification – Section 832 Penal Code – State of California
• Uniform Fire code Certification (WFCA-ICBO/ICC)
• ICBO or ICC certificates are desirable.

The City of Rocklin is currently accepting applications for a full-time Landscape Services Worker in the Parks and Recreation Department.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, the Landscape Services Worker performs a variety of landscapes and/or recreational facility maintenance and repair work; provides maintenance support to the Landscape Services Division; and performs related work as required. Examples of duties are:

• Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled tasks in the construction and repair of landscapes, and park facilities such as installing and maintaining signs, erecting safety structures (i.e., barricades), installing park structures (i.e., benches, tables, awnings), building and maintaining fences and removing and pouring concrete.
• Inspects assigned landscape areas for safety, appearance and vandalism.
• Cleans and clears landscapes, facilities, structures and playing fields of debris and potentially dangerous conditions.
• Inspects and repairs playground equipment, picnic tables, barbecues, and other related park equipment.
• Plants, mows, prunes, and maintains turf, trees, shrubs, and plants; clears sites of weeds.
• Prepares and maintains athletic fields and related facilities; grades, fills and shapes baseball diamonds.
• Performs minor maintenance and repairs on equipment of park facilities such as replacing light bulbs, repairing electrical equipment (i.e., scoreboards), and laying conduit and pulling wire.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade

AND

One (1) year of experience in the maintenance, modification, and repair of parks, medians, and landscaped areas.

License Requirements

• A valid California Class C driver license or higher with a satisfactory driving record is required at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
•  A valid California Class A driver license with a satisfactory driving record is required within twelve (12) months of appointment.
• A Work Zone Traffic Control Safety Certificate issued by the International Municipal Signal Association (I.M.S.A.), or successful completion of the Traffic Control Technician-CA State Specific Training Course thru the American Traffic Safety Services Association is required within twelve (12) months of appointment.
• Qualified Pesticide Applicator Certificate issued by the Department of Pesticide Regulation is desirable.
• A Playground Safety Certificate is desirable.

THE POSITION

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, water meters, sewers, storm drains, pump stations and tree maintenance. 

 

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a Temporary / Part-Time position.  Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for employment as an Intern.  Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per fiscal year. Typical work schedule will be three 8-hour shifts per week, excluding weekends and evenings.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position should have previous Road Maintenance experience; sidewalks, driveways, roads, curbs, and gutters, although not required. The Ideal Candidate will be able to follow directions, demonstrate good communication skills (orally and in writing), be flexible, arrive on time, have good attendance, a positive attitude, be able to work independently with limited supervision, and a willingness to take on and learn new skills. Possessing a Class B commercial Driver’s license is desired, though not required upon hire. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, rubber-tired and steel rollers, rubber-tired tractor with all attachments (except backhoe attachment), striping equipment, and trencher in order to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations.  Spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets.  Use concrete cutting equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.  Paint and install traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate a striping truck; manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.  Install and remove traffic control barricades and cones.  Assist in a variety of tree maintenance activities including low limb, stump routing, tree watering, and tree planting.  Utilize proper safety precautions and comply with policies and procedures in the Department Illness and Injury Prevention Program.  Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.  Regular and consistent attendance.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Respond to inquiries from the general public.  Clean storm grates and drains.  Perform work in emergency situations as required.  Perform minor and preventive maintenance on paint spraying equipment, compressors, sprayers, compactors, and other construction equipment.  Work cooperatively with others.  Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Maintenance Worker I

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of work experience in construction or related field.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California Driver's License required upon hire.  Class B permit and DMV Medical Certification are required within three months of hire.  A valid Class B California driver's license, Completion of Work Zone Safety certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association, First Aid and CPR Certifications required prior to permanent appointment.

DEFINITION

Under close supervision, performs a variety of routine, heavy labor and unskilled manual tasks; learns to perform the more skilled tasks of the assigned division; and operates motorized equipment in a training capacity.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry-level class for Water System Operator and Street Maintenance & Sewer Collection System Operator positions in both the Water and Street, Sewer & Downtown Divisions.  Employees hired in either of these positions may reasonably expect promotion to the Water System Operator or Street Maintenance & Sewer Collection System Operator classes upon completion of one year's satisfactory service, completion of probation, and for the Streets, Storm Drains and Sewer Divisions, obtaining a class B driver’s license, passing a CWEA Grade 1 test, and for the Water Division, passing a DHS Grade D-1 test.

Street, Sewer & Downtown Division

Essential Duties:

Works with the following crews: Sign and Paint Crew; Paving Crew; Pothole Crew; Service Repair Crew; Pump Station Maintenance and Repair Crew; Sweeper Pile Crew; Sewer Rodder Crew and Hydro Jet Crew. Assists in laying pipe and sewer lines; sweeps and cleans roadsides, gutters, curbs, culverts, catch basins and other drainage structures; removes debris and undergrowth; assists in setting forms and mixing and pouring concrete; assists in raking, smoothing and tamping repaired patches; assists in the maintenance of mechanical equipment; assists in the layout of traffic patterns on streets and in the operation of painting equipment; cleans mechanical equipment and basic tools used on the job. Assists in maneuvering and driving hydro-jet truck and other equipment associated with this operation. Assists in preventative maintenance and unblocking of sewers using mechanical and hydro-jetting.

Other Duties: Serves as flag person when working in traffic and works in confined spaces.

Water Division

Essential Duties:

Assists in laying pipe and water lines; assists in making taps and connections to mains; assists in the maintenance of mechanical equipment; cleans mechanical equipment and maintains basic tools used on the job.

Other Duties: Serve as flag person when working in traffic; read water meters and assist water service worker; work in confined spaces.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)     

 

Knowledge of: 

Uses and purposes of designated hand tools employed in basic laboring work, safety precautions and practices, basic math and sufficient English to follow instructions and learn to write work reports.

Ability to:

Learn safety practices necessary in working on public thoroughfares; learn geography of the city; read and interpret plans and city block book maps; take notes and instructions and complete them accordingly; learn to perform semi-skilled and skilled duties in the assigned division. 

Skills: 

Ability to safely and efficiently use air and hand tools, hydraulic tools, jackhammers, and power and automotive equipment in a training capacity.

License: 

Possession of a valid Class C driver's license issued by the DMV, and the ability to obtain a Class B driver's license upon the end of a one-year probationary period.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Street, Sewer & Downtown Division

Ability to perform heavy manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects for short distances weighing up to ninety (90) pounds, including manhole covers; perform the pulling, pushing, twisting and bending needed for rodding sewer; work outdoors in adverse weather; perform pick and shovel work in digging, widening and backfilling; assist in the cleaning of sewers which includes working in raw sewage.

 

Ability to stand and walk for considerable periods of time; twist the upper body; perform moderate amounts of crouching, stooping, and squatting. Ability to climb ladders and to climb into confined spaces; to work weekends and evenings as necessary, and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Sufficient vision, hearing and stamina to perform the above job duties, and use of proper safety and hearing equipment when using noisy and dangerous equipment.

 

Water Division

What You’ll Do

• Perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered apparatus, vehicles, hydraulic systems for aerial ladders, and other like equipment.
• Accept assignments received in the form or oral or written communications.
• Determine the nature and extent of needed repairs, prioritize them, and perform necessary repairs.
• Inspect all department vehicles to ensure they meet proper safety protocols and are in standard working order.
• Maintain all vehicles to ensure safe working order for all employees.
• Perform regular servicing and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and apparatus including performing tune-ups, lube, oil, filter, Inspection, and chassis lubrication.
• Diagnose, service, maintain such things as: fire pumps, relief valves, and other control of plumbing equipment (proper certification required).
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, power train components, transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, hydraulic and pneumatic brake systems, steering and suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Perform welding and fabricating work when applicable.
• Operate all equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Perform routine shop maintenance and clean-up and dispose of hazardous materials according to established procedures.

To perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled horticulture tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of parks, pools, recreation, and cemetery facilities and buildings.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Services Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland is looking to fill a Park Maintenance Worker I/II position in the
Community Services Department. The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone
who has a good understanding of many aspects of the maintenance of facilities, parks, janitorial, and horticulture. This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time
management, and communication skills. The Ideal Candidate must be highly self-motivated,
able to work independently with minimal oversite, demonstrate good judgement, as well as be
organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful, and a positive team contributor on a
consistent basis. This position will also require the selected candidate work weekends,
standby and overtime as necessary.

 

Park Maintenance Worker I:

This is an entry-level classification in the park maintenance worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties. May be required to work any shift, including a regular work-shift that includes weekends and holidays, and routinely participate in a weeklong stand-by shift. Park Maintenance Worker I will usually exercise less independence, discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Park Maintenance Worker II:

This is the journey level in the park maintenance worker series. This class differs from Parks Maintenance Worker I in that incumbent performs more complex parks maintenance duties, including the requirement to work any shift, weekends, and holidays, to work independently, exercise judgment, and operate the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment. The incumbent Park Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Park Maintenance I level, or when filled from the outside requires prior work experience.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City parks, ball field maintenance/set up, and Cemetery as needed. Maintain irrigation, maintain synthetic turf, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, turf groomers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work, while all safe work procedures i.e., necessary PPE. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations.  Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that the failure of such attendance undermines the City’s ability to provide critical services to the employees, department and the public.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Applying fertilizers and spraying various herbicides and pesticides in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves, and building maintenance as required. Work cooperatively with others. Meet all Standby Program requirements; work any shift including weekends and holidays. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Park Maintenance Worker I:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of experience in the care and maintenance of landscapes or facilities.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

 

Park Maintenance Worker II:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Park Maintenance Worker I in the City of Woodland.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a California Driver’s License. It is highly desirable to possess a State of California Qualified Applicator Certificate, Category B.
