Education/Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized secretarial training.

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible administrative support experience comparable to an Office Specialist II with the City of Simi Valley.

Summary:
Under general supervision, monitors and maintains the District’s central reservation system and main­tains schedules for outdoor facilities including fields, parks and picnic areas; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.

• Maintains reservation system for the District comprising of outdoor and indoor spaces; manages mobile staging and equipment to include establishing reservation reschedules, posting schedules online, and providing direct oversight of outdoor space usage.
• Responds to online, telephone and in-person inquiries from the public and co-workers, receives web and paper reservation applications, reviews applications for proper use of space according to District guidelines, determines approval/rejection of applications, notifies applicants of decisions, and files documents for recordkeeping.
• Assists in authorizing permits for private and public entities, reviews permit holder’s evidence of insurance, submits and files insurance forms.
• Accepts payments from permit holders including deposits for space, processes payments for accounting purposes, obtains information on after-use condition of facilities, determines amount of refunds, providing justification as needed if part or all of refund is withheld, and processes deposit refunds as appropriate.
• Accurately processes monetary transactions including credit card transactions, issues receipts, reconciles cash and receipts, and prepares bank deposits.
• Researches, studies and interprets city and District rules and regulations related to use of public facilities, provides expert knowledge of space availability, codes and ordinances to the public on use of facilities.
• Assists with troubleshooting issues related to functionality of reservation software program, receives feedback on reservation system, and proposes modifications to program to enhance user experience.
• Distributes printed and posted material related to reservations in marketing efforts.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• May drive a District or personal vehicle.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.
• Non-exempt employees may be required to work overtime.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satis­factorily.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: an associate degree from a two-year college and one year of increasingly responsible clerical experience with frequent public contact; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read, interpret and relay information obtained from documents such as ordinances relating to public use of facilities, understand operating instructions in spoken and written formats, and execute protocols and apply standard procedures per manuals. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms. Ability to write routine reports and interact with the public in a positive manner. Ability to speak Spanish is desirable

Math Ability:Ability to use basic math to perform tasks such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers and common fractions and decimals, and prepare bank forms.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to exercise common-sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written or oral form. Ability to synthesize necessary information related to encounters with the public and District customers in the course of work. 

Other Required Skills: Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel, type on a standard keyboard, navigate various office computer applications, operate a calculator, fax machine and other office equipment.

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• All full-time candidates require satisfactory completion of a pre-employment functional capacity examination.
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of negative TB skin test.

Supervisory Responsibilities: The position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position may direct the activities of contract workers during peak periods and volunteer staff.

Examination:

• Written Test/Practical Exercise:  A written test and a practical exercise may be used, in addition to the appraisal interview. 
• Appraisal Interview:  A job related appraisal interview will be conducted to evaluate and compare participating candidates’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in relation to those factors which job analysis has determined to be essential for successful performance of the job.
• After the Appraisal Interview, the top candidates will be invited to a staff interview.

Primary responsibilities:

• Perform skilled work in the pruning, care, and maintenance of trees and grounds maintenance, including chemical application duties
• Perform heavy manual labor in the care and maintenance of trees and in performing grounds maintenance
• Install, repair, and program irrigation systems and controllers
• Perform graffiti removal
• Perform routine and emergency work from an aerial lift bucket
• Assist in overseeing the work of contractors
• Assist with the cleanup of encampment and abandon property cleanup efforts 
• Support police personnel in non-enforcement and enforcement situations involving unhoused individuals, including posting, documentation, and storing private property 

Note: Work Schedule – 4/40 (Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Position involves performing after-hours emergency work on an “as needed” basis and on-call duties on a rotating basis.

Primary Responsibilities

As an integral member of the Human Resources leadership team, this position will contribute insights and expertise on a broad range of Human Resources disciplines and issues.  This role includes managing a team of Risk, Safety, and Talent Development Analysts to ensure effective risk management, municipal claims processing, worker's compensation, insurance, occupational health and safety (OH&S) and talent development programs and initiatives.

This multi-faceted role includes the primary oversight of the following:

Talent Development

• Successfully lead the design, development, implementation, evaluation and sustainability of talent development programs and onboarding programs.
• Assess and make recommendations on the best learning methods for a diverse range of learning needs, including in-person/virtual instructor-led trainings (ILTs), e-learning videos, and more.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to evaluate training needs, and recommend, and develop training solutions, such as incorporating/preparing customized and purchased content.
• Increase organization utilization and integration of the employee Learning Management System.
• Coach and support supervisors and managers in employee learning, talent development, and performance management.
• Develop strategies for leadership transitions and work with departments to identify and develop employees for future leadership positions.

Risk & OH&S

• Drive the development and enhancement of risk management strategies, policies, and OH&S programs to minimize financial exposure and foster a safe workplace.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to proactively manage and reduce risk.
• Assure appropriate analysis of claims and loss data to identify trends and areas for improvement while maintaining claims databases and records.
• Oversee claims data, loss experience, and OH&S performance.
• Stay current on relevant regulations and coordinate with legal counsel as needed to ensure compliance.
• Manage the risk and OH&S function budgets and programs.

We are seeking two outgoing and community-oriented individuals to join our Public Works department as temporary, part-time and/or substitute Crossing Guards. This rewarding and impactful position safely assists school children in crossing busy intersections by halting vehicles through the use of mechanical signals and/or hand-held stop signs; maintains order among children waiting to cross the street at street crossing points; permits street crossing only when safe to do so; reports the license numbers of vehicles violating school crosswalk-related traffic laws to Community Services management personnel or the Simi Valley Police Department; and, instills an awareness in school children of safety measures necessary for safe street crossing. 

Pay rate for this position is $16.00 hourly

Our Minimum Qualifications for consideration are:

Any combination of education and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities, along with the following special requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older, have open availability, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to remain calm and use good judgment in emergency situations.
• Basic first aid knowledge is desirable.
• Must possess good hearing ability across a frequency range from 500 Hz to 3,000 Hz. Hearing levels meeting these requirements in the better ear either with or without a hearing aid will be acceptable. If an individual meets the criteria by using a hearing aid, then he/she must wear that hearing aid and be in possession of a spare power source for the hearing aid.
• Must possess corrected vision of 20/40 minimum, with no color blindness.
• A medical examination may be required prior to appointment and as a condition of continuing employment with the City.

Enjoy working outdoors?  Want to make a difference in your community?  School Crossing Guards play an important role in helping children who walk or bicycle to school by helping them safely cross the street at key crosswalk locations.

The City is interviewing to fill several openings for part-time positions.  Apply immediately to be considered.  Regular assignment and substitute (on-call) positions are available.  Hours for the 24-25 school year are typically 1-1.5 hours in the morning and 1-1.5 hours in the afternoon depending on the school location and schedule.

Primary responsibilities:

• Monitor and assist in crossing of school-age children during peak traffic times at select locations.
• Provide appropriate safety instruction for children crossing streets and intersections.
• Watch traffic flow and wait for an appropriate gap between vehicles to lead groups of school children safely across a street.
