The County of Yuba is recruiting for both Extra-Help and Full-Time Juvenile Corrections Officers I/II,  in an effort to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list. These positions are located on the Tri-County Youth Rehabilitation Campus which falls under the Juvenile Institutions Division of the Yuba County Probation Department. The primary responsibilities of this flexibly staffed position are to: provide care, custody, supervision, and control of youth housed in the secured detention facilities while they are pending legal action or serving a post adjudication commitment; ensure and sustain a safe and secure environment for youth; and coordinate counseling and behavior modification activities associated with the operation of the facilities.

Our Campus provides youth detention services to the communities of Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties as well as several contract counties through our Camp Singer program.  We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and includes the Tri-County Juvenile Hall, Secure Housing Unit, and Maxine Singer Youth Guidance Center (Camp Singer), under a Joint Powers Agreement between the three counties. The shared goal of facility staff is to provide youth with support and tools that will assist them with successfully reintegrating back into the community.  Staff are provided with state mandated relevant training, which includes youth trauma; crisis management; cultural competence; mental health awareness; sexual abuse and harassment; and proper use of force.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. About the Sheriff’s Department :

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

This position is a working level civilian class in law enforcement, performing a variety of non-sworn duties in support of law enforcement activities.  Incumbents may perform civil, code enforcement, and criminal services including a variety of routine to more complex non-sworn law enforcement and crime prevention work including patrolling assigned areas, answering calls for service and complaints, serving civil papers, providing court room security; and enforcing local ordinances related to public safety and welfare.  As a County Services Officer he/she will enforce Division 14 of the Agricultural Code of the State of California and enforce the County ordinance governing the animal and rabies control program, in an effort to maintain public safety and welfare.  This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.
