The Marin Municipal Water District seeks an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist (Vegetation) to support implementation of watershed vegetation programs.  This includes oversight of vegetation inventory, mapping, monitoring, environmental compliance, mitigation and restoration activities. The Ecologist or Senior Ecologist (Vegetation) will have the responsibility for providing direction to technical support staff and contractors during implementation of all phases of the District’s Vegetation Management Plan, as well as with other watershed natural resources programs, as directed. In addition, the Ecologist or Senior Ecologist (Vegetation) will establish and maintain collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and staff and will maintain a work environment that fosters positive employee engagement, high productivity and effective communication. 

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of botany, forestry, ecology, natural resources management and environmental compliance. The position will be staffed at a level commensurate with the qualifications of the selected individual and the needs of the District.

The District: The District is a medium sized, municipal, water agency with a Board of Directors/General Manager form of government, 240 full time employees and a $107,895,032 combined annual operating and capital budget for FY 2020.  Annually, the District delivers water to 190,800 residents and businesses in the central and southern portions of Marin County and has stewardship responsibilities for 21,000 acres of pristine watershed lands on Mt. Tam.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, assists in the planning and scheduling of custodial maintenance of City buildings; supervises work crews; personally performs a variety of skilled building cleaning maintenance tasks; and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Under the direction of the Custodial Services Supervisor, assists in the scheduling and organization of custodial crews; may personally train, direct and perform work with floor maintenance crew; personally perform various skilled cleaning operations and may be assigned to any work shift schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Methods, materials, chemicals and equipment used in the custodial maintenance of buildings; State and Federal requirements for safety labeling of chemicals.

Experience:  Two years of full-time custodial maintenance experience in public buildings or offices.

Education:    Graduation from high school or equivalent. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.

License:         Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

About the Position: The Water Resources Specialist II or III is responsible for cataloging, organizing, tracking, and long-term planning for water resources management in the District’s open space preserves. In this position, you will manage and obtain water rights and water quality (Clean Water Act) permits and generate required reports for submittal to regulatory agencies and other governing bodies and engage in related activities in the restoration and management of aquatic resources. General responsibilities of this position will also include managing consultants and contractors; writing detailed technical summaries and reports for District staff and the public; preparing grant applications; and conducting surveys in the field.

Basic requirements include the knowledge of California water-related regulations, beneficial uses, and water rights. Knowledge of hydrology, principles and practices of aquatic resource management, water diversion and distribution systems, and environmental planning.  The ability to plan and conduct water use/ hydrological monitoring, analyze and interpret data, use GIS software, and prepare clear and concise reports, as well as to be able to secure and maintain records for regulatory agency permits, and manage complex projects utilizing consultants and contractors.  Knowledge of CEQA is desired, but not required.

The Water Resources Specialist II supports the Senior Resource Management Specialist and works in collaboration with other staff to facilitate complex projects. The Water Resource Specialist II may directly manage smaller projects and does not have any supervisory responsibilities.  This is a non-exempt/hourly position.

The Water Resources Specialist III has broad, technical experience with water resources, is self-directed, and works independently managing complex large-scale projects.  May supervise an intern.  This is an exempt/salaried position.

Work Environment: The Water Resources Specialist II and III functions within a team environment with other Resource Management staff. The position is located in Midpen’s District’s Los Altos office, reporting to the Senior Resource Management Specialist. Work will occur in both a field and office environments, with travel from site to site, and field data collection. When conducting field assignments, work may include traversing rough, difficult terrain in inclement or hot weather with exposure to poison oak.

Education & Experience

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Water Resources Specialist II: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in watershed science/management, hydrology, water law/policy, engineering, ecology, biology, earth sciences or other closely related subject, and two years increasingly responsible experience in the field of resource planning and management. The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of Casual Maintenance Custodian. Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, the Casual Maintenance Custodian serves as the worker in the duties of care, upkeep, and cleaning of assigned buildings and related facilities.  The incumbent may be required to travel between several City buildings during their scheduled shift.  This recruitment is to fill a position that has been designated to cover a night shift from 5 p.m., to 1:30 a.m., including weekends.  This recruitment may also be used to fill similar casual positions through the City, shifts and schedules may vary, and may include daytime shifts as needed.

• Dust and polish fixtures and equipment up to twelve feet from floor.
• Wash windows and doors up to twelve feet from floor.
• Clean desk and countertops if cleared of items.
• Empty and clean waste receptacles, place in appropriate outside bins. Move recycle bins in and out of assigned buildings as assigned.
• Clean and maintain restrooms in assigned buildings and facilities.
• Replace light bulbs up to twelve feet from floor.
• Lock and unlock doors; turn light and machines on and off; set alarms.
• Pick up papers and other debris and place in appropriate container.
• Maintain custodial supplies and equipment in each assigned building and facility.
• May perform or assist in performing minor and/or basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing and building maintenance work.
• Operate light duty equipment and machinery.
• Maintain effective communication utilizing email during each assigned shift.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

This is a non-benefited casual position.  A casual employee may not work more than 1000 hours per fiscal year.
