The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Administrative Assistant in the City Manager's Office! In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop thorough knowledge of citywide policies and procedures in order to support core functions in your assigned department.

In addition to office support, you'll be responsible for a wide variety of complex, non-routine support functions that may involve researching complex information, analyzing and compiling data, reviewing documents, and assisting with budgets. You'll use skills like problem-solving, project management, and communication to gather information and determine the appropriate action, decision, or solution.

This recruitment is for an unrepresented Administrative Assistant position in the City Manager's Office.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of progressively responsible staff support work.

Applicants must have satisfactorily completed three (3) semester units or four (4) quarter units of college course work in business, public administration, or related subjects, plus be enrolled in a second elementary college-level related course which must be completed before the end of probation and must complete three (3) semester or (4) quarter units of college course work in related subjects within one (1) year of appointment.

Nine (9) semester units or twelve (12) quarter units, completed prior to appointment, will satisfy this requirement.

AHA is seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Technician I to perform a range maintenance and alterations on Housing Authority buildings and facilities, HVAC, and other electrical and mechanical systems; identifying and evaluating construction-related problems; performing installation and repairs on plumbing systems; conducting property inspections, and coordinating with vendors on maintenance replacement and repair projects. THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Youth & Family Services Clinical Supervisor and the Community Services Manager, the Intervention Counselor provides crisis intervention, individual and family counseling; identifies appropriate referral services to youth, families and individuals.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

Intervention Counselor is a journey-level professional classification. Incumbents perform the full range of counseling duties within the Community Services division. Incumbents in this position receive occasional instruction as new or unusual situations arise. The Intervention Counselor is distinguished from the Clinical Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for overseeing clinical work, providing direct supervision to clinical staff and interns, responsible for ensuring counselors follow professional guidelines, establishes processes and procedures for the clinical side of the division, researches and provides appropriate training, and is the primary liaison with the school district and police department in regard to referrals, counseling, and crisis support. While the Intervention Counselor provides direct counseling, run group counseling and workshops, and provides intervention services and supportive tools and resources to clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

• Provide individual, family and group counseling to children, adolescents, and adults using a variety of therapeutic and counseling techniques. 
• Provide crisis intervention services around a variety of issues including: incorrigible youth/status offenders, child/adult abuse, domestic violence, trauma, individuals experiencing mental health issues, and families in conflict; may conduct visits at homes, schools, and juvenile detention centers. 
• Conduct assessments to identify appropriate resources, provide referral services and connect clients with additional services as needed.
• May receive, process and track all incoming case management, outreach, and counseling referrals as needed.
• Represent the City of Union City in the name of AC Probation, Centro de Servicios, Tiburcio Vazquez, Malabar House/Eden Counseling Services, NHUSD school administrators – principals, teachers, student services staff, UC Family Center,  Fremont Resource Center, (Fresh Lives for Youth (FLY), Filipinos  Advocates For Justice (FAFJ), MidPen Housing, Bay Area Community Health (BACH),  Safe Alternatives To Violent Environments (SAVE) to continue to develop and maintain relationships with these social welfare agencies and organizations. 
• Prepare and give presentations to youth, parents and community members.
• Conduct outreach to promote programs and services.
• Generate and maintain appropriate records, client files, and accurate statistical/monthly reports.
• Participate in weekly and monthly department and community meetings, trainings, and workshops as necessary.
• May provide guidance and clinical support to non-clinical staff who engage with clients. 
• Develop and implement new processes and procedures as needed.

In March 2024, California passed Proposition 1. Proposition 1 authorizes $6.4 billion in bonds to pay for major projects such as housing for veterans and mental health, drug, and/or alcohol facilities.  Proposition 1 will also shift how revenue from the 1% tax on income above $1 million is spent under the law. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Aquatics Specialist II (Non-Career intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide instruction in swim and serve as a lifeguard at assigned swimming facilities. You'll teach swim skills to people of all ages and supervise the conduct of swimmers in order to maintain health and safety standards. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: 
A minimum of two (2) summer seasons working as a lifeguard or swim instructor.

Must possess a valid Water Safety Instruction Card which requires an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, and successful completion of first aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training.

If acting as a Coach or teaching a specific water sports activity, in addition to the qualifications outlined above, must possess a valid USA Swimming Level 1 Certification or Specialized Aquatics Certificate.

The City of Union City's Community and Recreation Services is seeking staff for the following roles:

• Lifeguard (Recreation Leader) - $17.14 - $20.84/hourly

  • Under general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, able to perform all duties and responsibilities of a Lifeguard and Senior Lifeguard, assist in staff meetings and lifeguard trainings, direct contact for participants to explain pool rules, policies, and procedures. We're looking for a Supervising Public Health Nurse to manage programs in our Public Health Division! Join us in our mission to achieve health equity and optimal health for all people in Berkeley through systems change, service provision, and collaboration with community members and partners.

As a Supervising Public Health Nurse, you will have the opportunity to direct the Family Support Services Unit or the Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Unit. You will supervise nursing and support staff, develop program goals and policies, and perform professional nursing work within your program. You may also coordinate and supervise the operation of health-related services like Targeted Case Management and programs involving education, prevention, and coordination of resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university (accredited by the National League for Nursing) with major coursework in nursing and four (4) years of general public health nursing experience with involvement in project leadership or program planning, including one (1) year of lead-level experience. A master's degree in public health or public health nursing is desirable.
