The City of Marysville is excited to announce the employment opportunity for a Firefighter!  We are seeking energetic and outstanding individuals to join our team. 

This particular recruitment will be a 56 hour (Monday-Friday) position - with the exception of emergencies and Strike Teams.  The base weekly schedule will resemble the following example: 

Monday - 8 hours

Tuesday - 8 hours

Wednesday - 8 hours

Thursday - 24 hours

Friday - 8 hours

Our Firefighters perform firefighting, rescue, fire prevention, equipment operation and equipment maintenance activities to protect life and property; provide emergency medical and rescue services to the community; and perform related duties and responsibilities as required. The Firefighter classification receives direct supervision from the Fire Captain and may receive functional direction from the Fire Engineer.

This is the entry level paid classification in the field of firefighting. It is distinguished from the classification of Fire Engineer in that the latter is assigned more responsible and varied duties which require knowledge and experience in driving motorized fire fighting vehicles and operating related pumping, hydraulic and other specialized fire equipment.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds to fires, emergency rescues, first aid, fire alarms, natural and man-made disasters, and public assist service calls.

• Conducts inspections of building, structures, and properties for compliance with building, safety and related City codes.
• Answers general questions from the public.
• Prepares and updates reports, logs, maps, and other departmental records as needed.
• Makes recommendations to improve the manner in which the job is performed and to deliver the highest quality of service to the public.
• Studies and trains on Fire Department rules and regulations, fire hazards, firefighting techniques, and other related emergency subjects.
• Maintains regular, consistent, and timely attendance.
• May be assigned to drive and operate fire department vehicles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (position requirements at entry) *

Knowledge of:

• Principles, practices, and procedures of modern fire prevention and suppression methods.
• Operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment, tools, and devices.
• Applicable local, State and Federal laws, and departmental rules and regulations.
• Water hydraulics, principles of fire streams and proper pump pressures, and fire behavior.
• First aid, CPR, and other rescue procedures.
• Safety practices, fire hazards, and potentially dangerous situations as they relate to fire prevention, fire suppression, fire investigation, rescue, emergency situations and hazardous materials.

Ability to:*

• Perform fire suppression, fire prevention and fire inspection activities in emergency situations in accordance with applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations.
• Demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude as required in the operation and maintenance of the firefighting and rescue equipment.
• Think and act quickly and effectively in emergencies within established guidelines.
• Administer first aid including CPR.
• Drive fire and rescue vehicles with care and safety in accordance with traffic laws and ordinances.
• Keep simple records and prepare reports.
• Utilize basic arithmetic, including decimals, ratios, percentages, and fractions.

This classification is for the City Clerk (CC) and Assistant to the City Manager (ACM); due to this caveat this classification specification will list duties and responsibilities for the two (2) positions.
To perform a variety of administrative and managerial responsibilities in the conduct and management of the activities of preparing City Council agendas, minutes, and Council packets, as well as responding to Public Records request and maintaining all official City records.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Reports to and receives general direction from the City Manager. May exercise direct supervision over clerical staff.

Provides continuous leadership in carrying out the program mission, as amended from time to time, including:
• Maintains records and prepares daily reports related to work performed.
• Compile information for agenda preparation; collect background information; assemble agenda for printing; distribute packets to City Council and various agencies.
• Prepare and distribute updates and revisions of Council Policy and those of city boards, commissions, and committees.
• Respond to inquiries from the public by letter, telephone and in person regarding Council action and records; research information for public or city staff when necessary.
• Maintain administrative files including historical legal documents, resolutions, ordinances, agreements, deeds and annexations.
• Serve as custodian of the city seal and city archivist for official records.
• Process all municipal elections to County Elections Office and maintain election files for all municipal/special elections; receive initiatives and process accordingly.
• Maintain list of commissions and boards; receive applications for membership on boards and commission; publish notices for vacancies; process applications for Council selection; notify applicants of results.
• Assist City Manager in responding to various inquires related to city operations, policies, and programs.
• Serve as financial disclosure officer for Fair Political Practices Commission for campaign disclosure forms and statement of economic interest.
• Represent the department to outside agencies and organizations; participate in outside community and professional groups and committees; provide technical assistance as necessary.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other city employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Process Worker’s Compensation Claims and coordinate other confidential HR-related activities.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MAINTENANCE WORKER (Full time)

The City of Marysville seeks qualified candidates for this excellent career opportunity!

Working in the Public Works Department, the Maintenance Worker I/II will perform a variety of unskilled, semiskilled and skilled light and heavy duty construction, maintenance and repair work involving public works, sewer and drainage systems, buildings, parking meters, and other facilities.

The position will be filled as a Maintenance Worker I/II based on the experience and qualifications of the candidate.

SALARY RANGE:
Maintenance Worker I/II – $3,350.50 to $4,485.52 per month (wages effective 7/1/2024 per MOU).

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Maintenance Worker I:  This is the entry level class in the maintenance worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled maintenance tasks. Although trucks and other motorized equipment may be operated by a Maintenance Worker I, the equipment is used on a training basis or for tasks which are repetitious in nature. Under this training concept, positions assigned to the class of Maintenance Worker II which become vacant may reasonably be filled at the Maintenance Worker I level, with the understanding that reassignment to the Maintenance Worker II class may be expected following successful job performance and personal development.

Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level in the maintenance worker series. Positions assigned to this class are expected to perform semi‑skilled and skilled public works maintenance activities and to operate light and moderately heavy power‑driven equipment on a continuing basis. All positions allocated to this class require that an incumbent be able to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative to fulfill assigned tasks. Maintenance Workers II may also be expected to assist in the supervision and training of less experienced personnel.

• Perform a variety of maintenance work in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, parks, sewers, storm drains, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, parking meters and other public facilities.
• Operate power‑driven equipment such as skip loaders, dump trucks, water trucks and fork lifts.
• Break out old concrete work such as curbs, sidewalks, and gutters.
• Cut and prepare streets for patches, spread premix and oil, and rake asphalt.
• Replace, repair, couple, test, and backfill sewer lines.
• Clean and maintain basic tools used on the job.
• Paint traffic directional markings, such as crosswalks and safety loading zones.
• Fabricate, install, repair and replace street signs.
• Operate heavy power‑driven equipment on a relief or training basis.
• Water, mow, weed, trim, renovate, and fertilize grass and other landscaped areas.
• Rake leaves, clean walks, fields, courts, and other facilities.
• Spade and otherwise prepare ground around plants and shrubs, including mixing and applying fertilizers.

• Load trimmings on trucks for disposal.
• Pick up rubbish and litter materials and perform general grounds cleaning.
• Operate power mowers, edgers, sewer rodders, and other hand-operated and power tools in the performance of maintenance and repair activities.
• Drive vehicles as required and assist in routine care and upkeep of such vehicles.
• Assist in moving and installing park and recreational equipment.
• Install, maintain, and repair sewer system mains, sprinkler systems, pipes and facilities.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair parking meter devices.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS (position requirements at entry and throughout employment)

Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job is qualifying. These employment standards would typically be achieved by possession of a high school diploma, or equivalent, and:

Maintenance Worker I: Possession of a valid California Class C driver license.  There is an employee weight limitation of 325 pounds to meet the legal limits for the safe use of certain equipment.

Maintenance Worker II: One year full-time performing the duties and activities expected of incumbents in the Maintenance Worker I classification. Possession of a valid California Class C driver license.  There is an employee weight limitation of 325 pounds to meet the legal limits for the safe use of certain equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Salary Range is $150,000- $225,000 negotiable; depends on qualifications. 

The City Manager is the administrative head of the government of the City. Under the direction and control of the City Council, the City Manager is responsible for ensuring that the policy directions set forth by the City Council are carried out and the day-to-day operations of the City government run smoothly.

Some of the duties of the City Manager include:

• Plan, coordinate and direct the work of City departments; oversee community and economic development activities; organize public improvement projects and programs; develop and prepare administrative policies, procedures and work standards to ensure that the goals and objectives of the City are met and that mandated services are provided in an effective, efficient and economical manner.
• Oversee and monitor the City budget and provide information regarding the City's financial condition and needs to the City Council.
• Represent the City in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups and various businesses, professional, educational, regulatory and legislative organizations; act as the City liaison.
• Prepare the agenda for all regular, special or adjourned meetings of the City Council.
• Execute contracts authorized or approved by the City Council.
• Personnel and organizational responsibilities include selection, training, professional development and work evaluation of City staff; oversee the implementation of effective employee relations and related programs; oversees the City's risk management program; provide policy guidance and interpretation to staff; recommend reorganization efforts to meet the needs of the City; implement policy and procedural changes as required.

The City of Marysville is excited to announce that we are looking for Intern Fire Fighters.  Currently, we have 3 positions looking to be filled.

This is a NEW program within the Marysville Fire Department.  The Marysville Fire Department is hiring continuously for twelve (12) Firefighter Reserves.  These positions will be funded for four (4) years through the SAFER Grant.  

For each 24 hour shift worked, you will receive $60 for food and mileage, that will be paid monthly in accordance with the City of Marysville's established pay schedule.
