• Reviews and evaluates the most difficult and complex proposed building plans and specifications to insure that proposed construction complies with building, fire, environmental, flood hazard, design, energy, grading, trades, and related codes.
• Makes code interpretations for, responds to more complicated inquiries from, and provides information to architects, engineers, contractors, building designers, owners, and the general public regarding plan review and other code-related items and issues.
• Explains, interprets, and provides guidance regarding applicable codes, regulations, hand-outs, and related materials to the public, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, owners, staff, and other interested parties; answers questions regarding building codes and requirements and interprets plans for field inspectors; resolves highly complex and sensitive customer service issues, including alternate methods and materials, either personally, by telephone or in writing; maintains records and documents of customer service issues and resolutions.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is responsible for maintenance activities along approximately 92 miles of public right-of-way. THE JOB
The Maintenance and Facilities Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that municipal buildings and public facilities are maintained to high standards, remaining safe and functional for employees and the public. The Superintendent will oversee a direct staff of two supervisors, up to eight indirect reports, and the Division’s annual budget. This role involves managing contract and project activities, including multi-year park and landscape maintenance contracts (currently with MCE corporation), multi-year janitorial services, facilities maintenance projects in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and long-term maintenance and repair plans for city-owned buildings, streets, storm drain systems, parks, trees, and landscaping. DEFINITION

Under supervision, performs electrical, preventive and corrective maintenance, modifications of existing equipment and the installation of new electrical equipment used within the wastewater treatment plant, the wastewater lift stations and the potable water pump stations and equipment; on 24-hour emergency call for electrical repairs; and performs other duties as assigned.

The Town of Los Gatos is establishing a pool of qualified Temporary / Seasonal Maintenance Assistant candidates for the Parks and Public Works Department. The pool of qualified candidates will be used for current and future vacancies in the Department. 

The Maintenance Assistant position is a temporary, hourly, at-will, non-benefited position limited to 999 hours of employment in a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30). The work schedule is Saturdays and Sundays, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., including holidays.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE 
The ideal candidate loves working outdoors in various weather conditions, possesses strong customer service skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor, is flexible and willing to learn new tasks and skills, and can work independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have experience in park maitenance and using hand and power tools.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Education: Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent. 
Experience: One (1) year of park maintenance or other related work experience.
License: Valid California Class C driver’s license.
