The Air District is conducting an open recruitment for the position of Senior Staff Specialist in the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Office. This is a full-time, represented position for one (1) vacancy.

About the Position
The Senior Staff Specialist (Senior DEI Specialist) promotes and fosters an inclusive work environment. Their key duties typically include assisting in developing and implementing strategies, policies, trainings and programs that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the agency. They collect, analyze, and report on diversity metrics and demographic data to track progress and identify areas for improvement. They ensure organizational policies and practices comply with DEI principles and relevant laws by reviewing policies to remove potential biases. They also build and maintain relationships with diverse communities and external partners to support the organization’s DEI goals and initiatives. Serving as a resource and advisor to leadership and staff on DEI matters, they provide guidance on best practices and emerging trends in the field. Furthermore, they assist in creating a formalized supplier diversity process that supports equitable contracting opportunities. Overall, the Senior DEI Specialist works to create a work environment where all employees feel valued, respected, and included, ultimately contributing to the agency’s overall success.

Under direction, provides lead direction and performs the more complex administrative, technical, and specialized functions in the areas of incentives, contracts, business services, finance, budget, and facility management; and performs related work as assigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the advanced lead level in the Staff Specialist series. Incumbents may provide lead direction and may be assigned to perform the more complex duties. This class is distinguished from the Supervising Staff Specialist in that the latter assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff. This class is distinguished from Staff Specialist I/II, which is at the journey level, and does not typically perform lead work or the most complex duties.
