About the Position:  Midpen has multiple vacancies with a start date in January 2025. Education & Experience:

High School Diploma (completion of the 12th grade) or G.E.D. supplemented by college-level coursework in park maintenance, resource management, or a related field and one (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks, open spaces, and/or related facilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, Basic First Aid and CPR certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Depending on assignment, possession of, or ability to obtain, a District approved Fire Suppression Training certification within (12) months of assignment into the District’s fire program.

Under general supervision:

• Monitors the public’s use of computer equipment in the Technology Center, meeting rooms and throughout the library. 
• Provides individual and group technology instruction, including preparing and running technology classes at various City locations.
• Assists the public with the use of library computers, software and electronic resources; resolves problems and answers basic questions regarding computer, laptop & mobile device usage.
• Performs basic troubleshooting on Library self-checkout machines, scanners, and genealogy equipment.
• Monitors the use of technology equipment to deter theft and/or vandalism.
• Cleans and inspects computer equipment, replaces printer cartridges and printer paper.
• Maintains an inventory of computer supplies and peripheral devices; checks out peripheral devices to patrons; submits requests for replacements when needed.
• Oversees the Internet queuing system and monitors patrons’ time usage.
• Troubleshoots printer problems and Internet access problems involving patron cards.
• Assists patrons with payment for print jobs, photocopies & faxes, handles cash and credit cards.
• Accesses patron library accounts on library software.
• Configures and operates audio-visual equipment in conference rooms for meetings and/or public functions.  
• Configures and operates basic types of computer hardware and peripherals.
• Assists library users in connecting to the internet with mobile devices, WiFi hotspots, and laptop/Chromebook computers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

The Environmental Services Department provides comprehensive and innovative environmental utility services for Sunnyvale's residents and businesses and facilitates initiatives to achieve the City's sustainability objectives. The department brings together technical, operational, and administrative professional disciplines to form its dedicated and dynamic team.

 

The Environmental Services Department is currently recruiting for TWO vacancies, one regular full-time and one term-limited full-time (2 year assignment), in the position of Environmental Compliance Inspector to support the City's environmental inspection programs. These programs help protect our waterways and the San Francisco Bay by ensuring that businesses and residents are implementing best management practices to prevent water pollution and are in compliance with Federal and local water quality regulations. Environmental Compliance Inspectors work closely with a wide variety of businesses to ensure that the composition of their wastewater is in compliance with City requirements and does not compromise the integrity of the City's Water Pollution Control Plant or the sewer collection system. Such businesses range from aerospace and semiconductor manufacturers to dental offices and restaurants. The inspection team is also advancing multiple stormwater initiatives such as trash reduction and controls for pollutants of concern such as mercury and PCBs.

 

Under general direction, performs journey level inspection and enforcement activities on industrial, commercial, and residential discharges to the sewage and storm drain system for compliance with codes and laws regulating waste processes; and does other related work, as required.

The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for a Principal Water Pollution Control Plan Operator.  This position, reporting to the Water Pollution Control Operations Manager, undertakes supervisory responsibilities at the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant (SWPCP). Their duties include providing instruction, troubleshooting, and maintenance related to plant operations, supervising training programs, ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of equipment, and coordinating with various stakeholders.

 

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

• Graduation from high school or tested equivalent, and
• Five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant with at least 3 years at the shift supervisor level as defined by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).  The Senior WPC Operator position at the SWPCP is considered equivalent to the SWRCB Shift Supervisor definition.
• Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate issued by the California State Water Quality Control Board

The person helps adult learners 1:1 or in small groups learn how to use the literacy program's laptops and iPads as well as how to use literacy software on their own devices. The Literacy Technology Assistant may also be called on to support volunteer tutors or Read Santa Clara staff, as the need arises. The Literacy Technology Assistant is a patient, empathetic individual, who can teach basic technology skills to adults who have little or no digital literacy skills.

Do you have a passion for the outdoors, trails, and preserving open space?  Are you a motivated and experienced resource management professional?  If so, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) has an excellent opportunity for a skilled Senior Resource Management Specialist to lead the earth sciences program in the Natural Resources Department.  This interdisciplinary position will oversee program staff to assess and protect archaeological and cultural resources, as well as oversee programs to protect and restore water and geological resources, Midpen’s Climate Program and projects ranging from contaminated site cleanup to erosion control projects on Midpen preserves in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz Counties. About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a cohesive team of 15 in the Natural Resources Department, which is part of the Visitor and Field Services service line. The Earth Sciences Program is comprised of 4 fulltime program staff, including this position, and a shared intern. This is a supervisory position for the Earth Sciences Program, comprised of water resources, soil conservation, archaeological resources, Native American relations, and climate program. Program staff and/or consultants generally provide subject matter expertise; this position is not expected to have expertise in all areas. This position will supervise, coordinate, advise, and assist program staff and consultants in implementing the Earth Sciences Program to support Midpen natural and cultural resource management, planning efforts, stewardship and maintenance work, and capital projects.

Typical program work includes identification monitoring and protection of aquatic habitats; inventory, monitoring, and curation of archaeological resources, including coordination and engagement with indigenous peoples;  overseeing contractors and consultants, environmental impact analysis, and coordination and administration of permits from resource agencies. Administrative tasks include budget preparation, project management, setting priorities, providing guidance to multi-disciplinary teams, partnering with outside entities, managing and mentoring staff.

Work Environment:  This position will report to Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, CA.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position following successful onboarding.  In addition to working in an office setting to complete project tasks and at various venues across the San Francisco Peninsula to present information at public meetings, the Senior Resource Management Specialist will often work in the field and hike steep terrain and wildland areas with poison oak and wildlife.

Field Work: Fieldwork is integral to this position and dependent on the season and current projects.  Fieldwork will require driving District vehicles in remote areas on dirt roads, working in all weather conditions, and hiking through steep terrain and wildland areas. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of field conditions, as well as in an office environment.

Education and Experience: 

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in environmental design, natural resource management, ecology, biology, or a related field, and five (5) years of supervisory or management level experience in natural resource management preferably in parks, open space, or related field, including at least one (1) year of supervisory and administrative responsibility. A Master’s Degree is desirable. Professional work experience with parks and open space is highly desired.

Licenses & Certifications Required:   Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

The Department: 

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into seven divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library is in the process of finalizing and implementing its new Strategic Plan that will support the direction of future library services. 

The Position: 

This is a paraprofessional supervisory position in the classified service. The Library Circulation Supervisor is the highest level in the paraprofessional class in the Library Department, providing supervision and management for the largest number of work unit staff in the department, as well as day to day library operation. The Circulation Unit is the first line of staff that meets the public, and customer service and satisfaction are essential. The Circulation Unit is responsible for customer accounts, cash handling, effective material circulation, distribution and shelving, resource sharing, and daily delivery to all library and city locations as needed. The incumbent manages the schedule of the team, maintains standards of strong customer service for the library system through well-developed circulation processes and procedures that emphasize access and equity, and is responsible for the overall supervision of the Circulation Unit, as well as the safe operation and maintenance of circulation technology, including automated materials handling sorters and self-check machines. This position involves coordinating staffing and service procedures with the branch libraries, library bookmobile, as well as working closely with Technology for equipment support as well as with multiple vendors. The Circulation Supervisor is a member of the Library Management Team, and often acts as supervisor-in-charge. Strong communication, management and leadership experience and executive practice in fostering positive working environment, ability to work independently and within a team, supportive personnel practices, troubleshooting, patience, and flexibility will be key characteristics of this individual.

Acceptable Substitution:

WORKING CONDITIONS
 Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven, and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard and certain tools. The position also requires near and far vision when reading written work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag, carry, and push equipment, tools and supplies up to 50 pounds is also required. The Department:

The Parks and Recreation Department provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the City's neighborhood parks, open space, water sites, recreation buildings, and trails.

 

The Position:

Under supervision, to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in connection with the development and maintenance of City parks and recreational facilities.

 

As an As-needed Laborer, the successful incumbent will work in the department, performing routine maintenance on various parks and facilities including the city-owned cemetery. This position will assist in maintenance and repair using a variety of tools and specialized equipment. 

The Laborer position performs varied, unskilled and skilled manual tasks related to landscape maintenance and sanitization. Typical tasks include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and buildings, loading trash and leaves in truck, litter abatement, mowing, edging, cleaning park sites, graffiti abatement, and operating a variety of hand/power tools and heavy equipment as needed. This position may require working weekends, holidays, and after hours. Must be able to read, speak, and write English at a basic level, follow written and oral instruction, and perform heavy lifting.  

 

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.
