THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Public Works and Utilities is comprised of six divisions that work collaboratively to develop, build, operate, and maintain Hayward's infrastructure. The Department is responsible for providing engineering and transportation support to City operating departments and divisions and for implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Program, all while providing excellent customer service to the community.

• Effectively supervise the work of members of a land survey party.

Experience:   Three years of increasingly responsible survey experience related to public works design and construction at least one year of which included responsible survey instrument work.
 
Education:  Equivalent to an Associate of Arts Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and completed course work in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and drafting.  

License:   Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License. Possession of a California L.S.I.T. or Land Surveyor's License.

To perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled horticulture tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of parks, pools, recreation, and cemetery facilities and buildings.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Services Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland is looking to fill a Park Maintenance Worker I/II position in the
Community Services Department. The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone
who has a good understanding of many aspects of the maintenance of facilities, parks, janitorial, and horticulture. This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time
management, and communication skills. The Ideal Candidate must be highly self-motivated,
able to work independently with minimal oversite, demonstrate good judgement, as well as be
organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful, and a positive team contributor on a
consistent basis. This position will also require the selected candidate work weekends,
standby and overtime as necessary.

Park Maintenance Worker I:

This is an entry-level classification in the park maintenance worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties. May be required to work any shift, including a regular work-shift that includes weekends and holidays, and routinely participate in a weeklong stand-by shift. Park Maintenance Worker I will usually exercise less independence, discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Park Maintenance Worker II:

This is the journey level in the park maintenance worker series. This class differs from Parks Maintenance Worker I in that incumbent performs more complex parks maintenance duties, including the requirement to work any shift, weekends, and holidays, to work independently, exercise judgment, and operate the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment. The incumbent Park Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Park Maintenance I level, or when filled from the outside requires prior work experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City parks, ball field maintenance/set up, and Cemetery as needed. Maintain irrigation, maintain synthetic turf, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, turf groomers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work, while all safe work procedures i.e., necessary PPE. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations.  Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that the failure of such attendance undermines the City’s ability to provide critical services to the employees, department and the public.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Applying fertilizers and spraying various herbicides and pesticides in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves, and building maintenance as required. Work cooperatively with others. Meet all Standby Program requirements; work any shift including weekends and holidays. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Park Maintenance Worker I:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of experience in the care and maintenance of landscapes or facilities.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Park Maintenance Worker II:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Park Maintenance Worker I in the City of Woodland.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a California Driver’s License. It is highly desirable to possess a State of California Qualified Applicator Certificate, Category B.

The City of Patterson’s Public Works Department is seeking to fill (1) full-time Electrical & Instrumentation Technician I or II position within the Public Works department and to establish an eligibility list.  Duties include but are not limited to: Under supervision, performs skilled electrical and mechanical work related to the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and electronic equipment associated with the Wastewater Treatment Facility, Water Distribution System, Sewer/Storm Collections pumping stations, Telemetry/SCADA system, Traffic Signal and Street Light System, and related facilities.  Performs related work as assigned.

San Mateo Medical Center is seeking an experienced Surgery Scheduling Specialist for a Full-Time, Extra-help position for the Surgery Department. The Surgery Scheduling Specialist provides technical, complex and specialized administrative support to surgeons and patients scheduled for surgery, which includes interaction with operating room staff and patients; handles multiple competing priorities; interacts with diverse customer groups; handles multiple patient-related tasks such as tracking patient financials to ensure information is correctly entered; and moves patients from the clinic to the operating room, including all pre-operative processes necessary for the patients prior to surgery, pre-op process sheets and clinic schedules, data entry of items into the operative database, financial reconciliation, and post-op order sets, and may have some responsibilities for ordering supplies or equipment.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex medical terminology to a variety of people with varying levels of medical knowledge. In addition, they would possess skills in conflict resolution, and problem solving. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with challenging patients, and patients who may have a language or communication barrier. This position will require attention to detail, and therefore the ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
 
NOTE: The ability to speak, read and write in fluent English and Spanish is preferred for this position.
 
 Duties for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Tracking patient financials to be sure they are correctly entered.
• Scheduling patients in the procedure clinic.

Summary:

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs skilled maintenance, patrol and professional/technical park operation duties; encourages the safe and effective promotion, protection and utilization of park resources and open-space preserves; and performs other related duties as assigned.

• Interprets and explains park policies, rules and regulations to the public; answers inquiries and complaints concerning park conditions, operations and maintenance.

• Maintains stream crossings, hiking, biking and equestrian trails utilizing tractors and specialized trail-building equipment.

• Written Test/Practical Exercise:  A written test and a practical exercise may be used, in addition to the appraisal interview.

• After the Appraisal Interview, the top candidates will be invited to a staff interview.
