The City of Orinda Planning Department seeks a strong customer-service oriented Planning Technician to primarily staff the Planning Counter and process code-enforcement cases.  Depending on experience, the successful candidate may also gain opportunities to assist with various current and long-range planning tasks.  This non-exempt position reports to the Director of Planning.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

The City of Redwood City invites applications for Code Enforcement I/II in the Community Development  Department.

THE POSITION

The Code Enforcement Officer I or II is a part of the Building Division in the Community Development Department. This position will be filled at either Officer I or Officer II level, depending on qualifications of the final candidate. Under the direction of the Building Official and with day-to-day supervision by Senior Building Inspector, Code Enforcement Team, this position will work to ensure compliance with the Redwood City Municipal Code, ordinances and zoning regulations; and investigate and document violations. The Code Enforcement Program seeks to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and work environment. These duties will require coordination with other City staff in Community Development, Public Works, Fire and Police Departments, as well as other agencies, and the public.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: Work closely with homeowners, businesses and community groups to enhance the quality of neighborhoods through public relations, community building, and code enforcement related educational activities; Maintain effective and cooperative relations with the public; Investigate complaints of violations of City code, zoning ordinances, sign regulations and related laws, ordinances, and codes; Document complaints, inspections, actions, administrative remedies and compliance; Issue courtesy notices, notices of violations, correction notices, and stop work orders, as appropriate; Conduct routine follow-up investigations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, notify concerned parties of action taken. Code Enforcement Officer II will be required to handle the more complex type of Code Enforcement violation such as dealing with Zoning and illegal construction cases.

The Santa Clara Library Department aims to unite our community through possibility, exploration, and education. Read Santa Clara’s adult literacy program serves adults who seek to strengthen their basic literacy skills to achieve their goals as family members, workers, community members and lifelong learners.

The Position:

The Literacy Technology Assistant helps Read Santa Clara's adult learners gain basic digital literacy skills. The person helps adult learners 1:1 or in small groups learn how to use the literacy program's laptops and iPads as well as how to use literacy software on their own devices. The Literacy Technology Assistant may also be called on to support volunteer tutors or Read Santa Clara staff, as the need arises. The Literacy Technology Assistant is a patient, empathetic individual, who can teach basic technology skills to adults who have little or no digital literacy skills.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

POSITION

To perform office and field work involving the inspection, investigation, and compliance of City codes, ordinances and abatement regulations.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Development Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Receives and responds to complaints regarding substandard dwellings or structures, zoning violations, debris, unsanitary conditions, abandoned or inoperative vehicles, overgrown vegetation, and other zoning and municipal code violations. Investigate possible violations; photograph evidence; contact responsible persons and compose letters; issues notices of violation, infraction, and/or misdemeanor citations for non-compliance; perform follow-up investigations to ensure that remedial action has been taken; develop and maintain accurate case files. Reads, interprets and applies state laws, municipal codes and ordinances, and other pertinent regulations. Drive vehicles as required. Work cooperatively with others.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Prepares necessary violation and other notices which outline proper repair and correction methods, time limits, permits and all necessary remedial work required. Contacts property owners; schedules and conducts on-site inspections; interprets codes and regulations and explains inspection procedures and regulations to involved parties. Prepare code violation cases for public hearings and court proceedings; appear at public hearing as necessary for case prosecution. QUALIFICATIONS

Code Compliance Officer I:

Education:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties involving code enforcement, including office and field investigation of a variety of code, ordinance and regulation violations.

License or Certificate:  Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Arrest Course 832 Penal Code certificate within one (1) year of hire.  Possession of valid California Driver’s license required upon hire.

Code Compliance Officer II:

Education:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade with advanced coursework or specialized training in planning, building inspection, technology or a related field desirable.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Code Enforcement Officer in our Community Development Department.  Under immediate supervision, this position assists with the enforcement of all provisions of the San Rafael Municipal Code, performs code inspections, and enforces the zoning code.

This position is a flexibly staffed position and may be filled at any level in the series, dependent upon the candidate’s experience and qualifications.  The distinguishing characteristics between each level is as follows:

Code Enforcement Official I:  This class is distinguished from the Code Enforcement Officer II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including field investigations and field inspections.  Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience.

Code Enforcement Official II:  This is the full journey level class.  Employees at this level are distinguished from the Code Enforcement Officer I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned.  Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.  Positions in this class shift away from office and group fieldwork to more defined, independent work.
