Part-time, Monday - Friday, generally  8:00am - 3:30pm through the school session.

Summary:
Under supervision, co-teaches preschool-aged children in a preschool setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Under direction of the lead teacher, plan and instruct individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment.
• Provide a positive, caring and learning environment.
• Communicate with children in a positive manner to make corrections or enforce behavior.
• Communicate with parents.
• Work well with 3-5 year-olds.
• Under the direction of the lead teacher, provide age appropriate activities.
• Maintain and organize classroom supplies and equipment.
• Communicate with supervisor.
• Assisting lead teacher in assuring the standards that have been set are met and the program continues to progress in the direction needed.
• Cleaning, set-up and break-down of classroom.
• May supervise aide and/or volunteers in preschool.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. *

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 9 units completed in related field (childhood education preferred); and at least six months work experience with preschool; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, early childhood educational material, CRPD memorandums.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving children and/or parents.

Skills:
Ability to instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth needed for primary school. Ability to establish effective relationships with parents and children.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of how a preschool day should be is necessary with experience in a classroom environment is also highly preferred. Knowledge of early childhood education and age appropriate activities.

Certificates and Licenses:
First Aid and CPR certificates within 60 days of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise preschool aide and/or volunteers in preschool.

The Position: The City of Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced Spinning/Indoor Cycling Instructors for Spinning class instruction at the Campbell Community Center for weekday NOON classes, as well as subbing evening Spinning classes occasionally.

Responsibilities: Under direct supervision of the Recreation Fitness Specialist, is responsible for group instruction of Spinning fitness classes, utilizing Spinning or Indoor Cycling Certification training, and must possess a current CPR/AED certification. Ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively with participants and general public; adhere to class structural guidelines and time schedules; maintain patron safety in and around Campbell Community Center facilities; comply and enforce all City of Campbell and Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum age at time of hire is 18 years old.

• Professional certification(s) and experience.

• Valid California Driver’s license.

• Must have a Spinning certification through Mad Dogg Athletics, or nationally recognized indoor cycling certification.

• Current CPR/AED certification • Fingerprint clearance (Department of Justice background check.)

The City of Campbell will schedule fingerprint appointment and encumber cost upon hire.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Milpitas seeks an enthusiastic individuals to join the Recreation and Community Services Department as Recreation Leaders for the After the Bell School Program . You may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. You must be able to work between the hours of 2:00pm - 6:00pm daily and possibly as early as 12:30pm on minimum school days.

What You Will Do

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Leader IV, Recreation Leader V and Program Coordinator, Recreation Leaders will lead students in grades 1-6 in activities, games and other recreational activities at various elementary school sites.

The City of Milpitas Recreation and Community Services Department wants enthusiastic, problem solvers that have the ability to communicate well and provide excellent customer service skills to the community and our residents.

This position is part of the After the Bell Program and provides support at various elementary school sites. Recreation Leaders work with students in grades 1-6 in after school activities, structured games, and homework assistance. Other assignments provide support to the Milpitas Teen Center, leading activities of the same sort with teenage students.

The essential functions of this position include knowledge and/or experience working and/or supervising school age children ages 5-12 years old, lead games and activities, coordinate and implement daily activities. Recreation Leaders must be able to lead participants, communicate activity objectives and rules clearly and effectively; provide information and direction to a wide variety of age groups, conduct games and activities following established rules, guidelines, and time limits; learn, retain and use safety rules and regulations; provide verbal and summarized written feedback on activities; supervise students.

Incumbents must be able to multitask in a fast pace work environment. You must also be able to work independently off site and with other co-workers in compliance with City Rules and Regulations. Recreation Leaders may also be invited to work in additional areas including special events and other program areas within the Recreation and Community Services Department.

Experience and Education

·         Minimum age at time of hire is 16 years old

·         Must have experience in working with school age children (5-12 years old)

·         Must have current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR, or within 60 days of hire date

License and Other Requirements

Become a Lifeguard for the City of Milpitas!

The Opportunity

The City of Milpitas Recreation Services seeks energetic, detail-oriented, enthusiastic and reliable individuals for temporary Lifeguards / Swim Instructors for the Aquatic programs at the Milpitas Sports Center.  We offer flexible hours between 5:30am-9:00pm Monday-Sunday; limited to 999 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).  Will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.  Actual work schedule to be determined through agreement with supervisor.

What You Will Do

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Pool Manager and Recreation Assistant Pool Manager, Lifeguards / Swim Instructors will ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies and instruct swim lessons for participants of all ages. 

The essential functions of this position include: maintaining constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acting immediately and appropriately to ensure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency; providing emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services; performing various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility; preparing and maintaining appropriate reports; having thorough knowledge of rescue techniques; understanding and enforcing of facility rules, policies and procedures, having leadership, public relations skills and decision-making skills. 

In addition, Swim Instructors are responsible for instructing all swim lesson participants, ensuring the safety of all participants in their class, instructing and evaluating students participating in swim lessons, submitting completed participant report cards on time and attending mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled. 

The individual must be able to represent the City of Milpitas Recreation Services in a professional manner and follow the City’s and Recreation Services’ polices and regulations.     

Experience and Education

Lifeguard / Swim Instructor

·         Minimum age at time of hire is 15 years old.

·         Knowledge of and the ability to demonstrate skills in swim lesson instruction. 

·         Ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm. 

·         Pre-Employment testing of swimming skills and knowledge through a Lifeguard Academy (**With your commitment to work for City of Milpitas Aquatics Lap Swim Shift 5:30am-8:30am on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays, we will certify you for FREE!)

• Must have experience in working with children (3 – 17 years of age) and adults (18+ years of age). 

Swim Instructor

·        American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred but not required
