What You’ll Do

• Receive on-the-job training, learn and perform work in the following functions:
• Respond to and investigate complaints, either from the public or self-initiated, of abandoned vehicles in violation of the San Mateo Municipal Code and the California Vehicle Code.
• Process and abate abandoned vehicles as outlined in the California Vehicle Code, San Mateo Municipal Code, and Police Department Policy, including issue parking citations, conduct private property vehicle abatements, establish and maintain protocols for large vehicle (RV, bus) abatement, ensure vehicle owners and/or lien holders are provided with up to date information.
• Annually review all applicable abandoned vehicle fees to ensure financial integrity.
• Coordinate with other City departments for abandoned vehicle issues.
• May assist with administrative or citation reviews to include tow hearings.
• Respond to questions and concerns from business representatives, the general public, departmental staff, and other agencies.
• Provide information as appropriate and resolve service issues and complaints.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with towing agencies, vehicle dismantling agencies and other vehicle recyclers and provide all necessary documentation.
• Create and maintain guidelines and information for private property owners for reporting and legally abating vehicles.
• Assist dispatchers with data entry, and prepare and maintain reports, records, statistics or other documents regarding citation and towing activities as necessary.
• Transport patrol vehicles, radios, and other equipment for maintenance to appropriate destination.
• Respond to requests for assistance involving traffic control, direct traffic and perform other traffic control related duties at accident scenes and community events.

THE POSITION

The Fire Life Safety Plans Examiner will work in the Fire Section of the Building and Safety Division and will report to the Building Official. The Fire Section is responsible for Plan Review and Inspection of new projects as well as alterations or additions to existing properties and structures. This position will primarily be responsible for reviewing project documents for compliance with the City’s adopted codes with the primary focus on Life Safety Systems such as fire sprinklers, file alarms, Fire Department access, wildland urban interface, water supply and commercial kitchen systems, and ensuring compliance with the California State Fire Marshal’s adopted codes, regulations and interpretations. There is currently one Fire Life Safety Plans Examiner and this position will assist this person as well as the Fire Specialist who ensures compliance in the field through inspection and quality assurance efforts. The Fire Section reviews plans for residential, industrial, educational, commercial, institutional, mass transit, manufacturing and open space for compliance with Titles 8, 19, 24 and 25 of the California Code of Regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Review life safety submittals and fire protection systems for compliance with currently adopted fire and life safety codes, regulations and standards.
- Serve as a technical advisor to architects, engineers, developers, contractors and building owners in interpreting and enforcing fire protection requirements, fire and life safety /codes, regulations and standards.
- Coordinate with Building and Safety Personnel in establishing schedules and methods for providing fire protection plan review services; identify resource needs and effectively communicate resource status with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
- Make field inspections of construction sites.  
- Prepare reports and correspondence pertaining to fire protection engineering problems and fire and life safety code enforcement.
- Evaluate water based fire suppression systems.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.

THE WATER QUALITY CONTROL PLANT:

The Water Quality Control Plant (WQCP) processes wastewater discharge for the cities of South San Francisco, San Bruno and the Town of Colma. The Water Quality Control Plant is a division of the Public Works Department staffed by 38 employees including: Plant Superintendent and Assistant Plant Superintendent of WQCP; Maintenance, Laboratory and Environment Compliance Supervisors; Senior Chemist; Chemist; Lead Plant Mechanics; Plant Mechanics; Lead Plant Operators; Plant Operators; Electricians; Senior Environmental Compliance Inspector; Environmental Compliance Inspectors, Utility Workers, and two Administrative Assistants.

THE POSITION:

Depending on the strength of eligible candidates and their fit with the Public Works Department - WQCP Division, the vacancy will be filled as a Plant Electrician I or as a Plant Electrician II.

Electrician I - this class represents the entry level for the Plant Electrician series where incumbents may be assigned increasingly responsible duties with the expectation of eventually promoting to the journey level class of Plant Electrician II.  This class is distinguished from the Plant Electrician II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions.  Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have limited or no directly related work experience.

Electrician II - this is a journey- level within the Plant Electrician series.  Employees within this class are distinguished from the Plant Electrician I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned.  Positions assigned to this class are required to have complete working knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks associated with a water quality control plant and are expected to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision.  Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

DEFINITION

Under the direction and supervision of the Deputy Fire Marshal, the Fire Prevention Specialist performs responsible, technical and specialized work in the fields of life safety inspection, engineering and code enforcement. This is an entry-level position.

To perform technical duties that support and ensure compliance with the City’s Industrial Waste Pretreatment Program compliance with local, State, and Federal requirements; to issue and renew industrial discharge permits; and to perform related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Environmental Utilities Compliance Administrator.

Exercises technical and functional supervision over other technical staff, as appropriate.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Interpret and enforce pretreatment regulations; inspect industrial facilities to ensure compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB), and City pretreatment regulations.
• Issue and renew industrial discharge permits for new and existing industries; maintain complete and accurate industrial user performance/compliance records.
• Enter laboratory data into a computer system for further analysis and reporting purposes; maintain laboratory records, chain of custodies and prepare required reports; prepare and upload EDD files from contract labs to the HDR; update and institute necessary changes to the HDR IW database.
• Maintain and enforce the City’s Fats, Oil and Grease Program; issue and renew Food Service Establishment (FSE) permits.
• Collect wastewater from industrial facilities, potable water, swimming pool and surface water samples for chemical, bacteriological and biological analysis to ensure compliance with local, State, and Federal regulations.
• Set up, calibrate, and operate a variety of field instruments such as pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen meters and portable composite/discrete samplers.
• Respond to inquiries from the public about water and wastewater issues.
• Maintain professional relationships with industrial users; respond to their inquiries and serve as a technical resource; interpret regulations and advise industrial users on actions to ensure compliance.
• Prepare detailed written and oral reports of inspections and prepare related correspondence; prepare required quarterly and annual Industrial Pretreatment reports; monitor submission of compliance reports from categorical industries and other permitted users.
• Communicate and coordinate with regional partners to ensure consistent interpretation of pretreatment regulations.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Wastewater treatment processes used in monitoring the effectiveness of such processes.
• Operation and maintenance of equipment used for the control of industrial waste; laws and ordinances governing the treatment, control and discharge of industrial waste.
• Principles and practices of biology, chemistry and bacteriology, including methods and techniques of laboratory testing and analysis.
• Pertinent local, State and Federal ordinances, laws, and regulations.

Ability to:

• Perform technical duties in the collection and testing of wastewater, drinking water, sludge, industrial waste, surface water, and other related sample sources; check pretreatment facility plans.
• On a continuous basis, know and understand operations, and observe safety rules; analyze problem equipment and/or procedures; know and apply techniques and terminology; communicate and explain test results to others.

License or Certificate:

The City of Saratoga is currently looking for a full-time Code Compliance Officer to join the City’s busy Community Development Department. The incumbent will report to the Community Development Director.

The Code Compliance Officer, under general supervision, performs a variety of duties, in coordination with a variety of stakeholders, in the prevention, detection, investigation, and enforcement of violations of statutes and/or City of Saratoga Municipal Code requirements, with the goal of enhancing community and the health and welfare of its citizens. Summary:
With supervision, assists lead preschool teacher with instructing preschool-aged children in a preschool setting.

The Position: The City of Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced Spinning/Indoor Cycling Instructors for Spinning class instruction at the Campbell Community Center for weekday NOON classes, as well as subbing evening Spinning classes occasionally.

Responsibilities: Under direct supervision of the Recreation Fitness Specialist, is responsible for group instruction of Spinning fitness classes, utilizing Spinning or Indoor Cycling Certification training, and must possess a current CPR/AED certification. Ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively with participants and general public; adhere to class structural guidelines and time schedules; maintain patron safety in and around Campbell Community Center facilities; comply and enforce all City of Campbell and Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum age at time of hire is 18 years old.

• Professional certification(s) and experience.

• Valid California Driver’s license.

• Must have a Spinning certification through Mad Dogg Athletics, or nationally recognized indoor cycling certification.

• Current CPR/AED certification • Fingerprint clearance (Department of Justice background check.)

The City of Campbell will schedule fingerprint appointment and encumber cost upon hire.

Selection Process: The most qualified applicants as determined by initial screening of applications and references will be invited to participate in an interview process and instruction practical. Appointments will be made from the eligibility list established from results of the interview process. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a pre-employment fingerprinted criminal history, records check and the ability to provide verification of authorization to work in the United States.
