Job Description

Under the supervision of the Piledriver Supervisor I, the Pile Worker performs a variety of manual work in the repair and construction of piers, wharves, and related substructures by removing and replacing decayed and/or damaged caps, stringers, and decking; pulling, driving, framing, and bolting piles; burning old bolts; and repairing docks. Inspects piling underwater, wraps damaged piles and identifies severely damaged piles for replacement. Performs underwater burning, welding, and rigging for underwater projects.

For positions that require diving ability, incumbent must hold a current commercial diving certification. Diving ability includes performing underwater diving work including the ability to inspect underwater piles, wrap damaged piles, cut piles, prep and grout concrete piles, install anodes, designate severely damaged piles for replacement, perform underwater burning, welding, and rigging and familiarity with CAL OSHA regulations related to diving.

The essential duties of the 9330 Pile Worker include but are not limited to:

• Placing, driving, and capping piles.
• Placing stringers, sawing, and laying decking.
• Tearing out decayed and damaged decking, stringers, caps, and pilings.
•  Boring holes and framing timbers.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver and/or truck crane.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver by setting up, tearing down, and resetting rigging.
• Making minor repairs to piledriver machinery and equipment.
• Fabricating rigging, both wire rope or synthetic line such as block and tackles, slings, chokers, pennants, and related gear.
• Building, maintaining and using floats, pontoons, or work boats in the maintenance and repair of piers and docks.
• Building and maintaining floats, pontoons, workboats, and rafts.
• Loading and/or unloading piles, timbers, or debris to or from trucks or barges.
• Assisting the dive crew by sending down equipment and tools.
• Using international code of hand signals to signal instructions to the Piledriver Engine Operator.
• Using and maintaining pneumatic and portable gas tools.
• Operating forklifts, vehicles, and boats
• Using and maintaining a wide variety of pneumatic and portable gas tools such as drills, sanders, wrenches, saws, forklifts, torches, boring machines, and other related tools.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Some positions require diving ability - for positions that perform underwater diving, candidates are required to pass a medical qualification examination to dive and for the use of a respirator. Sustained physical effort, frequently underwater and under adverse weather conditions such as in rain, rough water, cold temperatures (water and air) and confined spaces; moving large heavy timbers; operating a skiff; and driving Port vehicles; required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and support dive gear and apparatus from 100 to 150 pounds.  

Qualifications

Experience

Four (4) years of verifiable journey-level experience as a pile worker.

For diving positions only: One (1) year of commercial construction diver experience in addition to the experience described above for a total of five (5) years of experience.

License and Certification

Possession of a valid California driver’s license (to be presented at time of appointment). Insurability under the Port’s automobile liability insurance must be maintained throughout employment.

For diving positions only: Possession of a current certification as a commercial diver by an Association of Commercial Diving Educators (ACDE) accredited dive school.

Desirable Qualifications (Ideal Candidate)

The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience with wood, steel and concrete pier construction and marine pile driving operations.
• Experience working on a barge crane conducting pile driving operations.
• Experience maintaining floating assets and marina floats.
• Experience operating boats
• Ability to identify and correct safety hazards.
• Good oral communication skills.

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card

This position requires that the incumbent be qualified for unescorted access to the Port’s Maritime Transportation System (MTS).  An application for a TWIC card may be submitted after employment has commenced.  Employment in this position requires that the incumbent undergo a criminal history check, immigration check and terrorist threat assessment, including FBI fingerprints, in order to determine eligibility for security clearance.  

The incumbent must submit an application for, successfully acquire and maintain a TWIC card. Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests and analyses.  Serve in a stand-by status after regular working hours and respond to emergency call-outs.  Keep detailed records of Pollution Prevention Program activities. Assist with public education and outreach activities to permitted businesses and residential customers. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Environmental Compliance Inspector I:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Specialized training or coursework in the water pollution control field is highly desirable.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in working with mechanical equipment and basic water or wastewater chemical and bacteriological processes is desirable.

License or Certificate: Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver's license.  A Grade I Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by California Water Environment Association is required within 12 months.

Environmental Compliance Inspector II:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training or coursework in the water pollution control field.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in the operation of a Pretreatment program. One (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant and/or related facilities or programs is desirable.

Licenses and Certificates: Grade I Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association required upon hire. Must obtain a Grade II Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association within 12 months of appointment.

To collect and examine water, wastewater, stormwater and related materials.  Performs a variety of standardized and complex tests and analysis of such samples. Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment, prepares glassware, mixes reagents and media. Laboratory Technician I:

This is the entry-level classification in the flexibly staffed Laboratory (Lab) Technician series.  Positions at this level are distinguished from the Lab Technician II level by providing a narrower range of duties, usually of a less complex nature in the treatment plant laboratory.  Incumbents learn and perform a variety of clearly defined duties involved with cleaning and maintaining laboratory material and equipment and performing routine testing and analysis in the laboratory. Laboratory Technician II provides lead supervision and training as needed to the Laboratory Technician I.

Laboratory Technician II:

This is the journey level classification of Lab Technician series.  Positions at this level are distinguished from the entry level by performing complex testing and analysis in the treatment plant laboratory.  Incumbents are thoroughly familiar of defined duties involved with calibrating and maintaining sophisticated laboratory equipment.  Provides lead direction to Lab Technician I in addition to performing NPDES required analyses in the laboratory and the more complex laboratory analysis. The Laboratory and Environmental Compliance Manager provides direct supervision. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Laboratory Technician I - Collects and prepares water, wastewater, receiving waters and related samples for analysis.  Conducts standard physical, chemical and biological analysis of such samples.  Makes mathematical calculations and statistical analysis for test results.  Prepares and maintains a variety of logs, records and reports related to the work performed.  Performs complex sampling techniques.  Prepares lab supply and equipment order lists.  Regular and consistent attendance.

Laboratory Technician II – All of the essential functions listed above and:  Prepares standardized reagents and media used in laboratory analysis.  Samples, schedules and ships samples to outside laboratories.  Performs analysis on quality assurance samples for compliance with State Health Department to maintain laboratory certification.  Participates in the laboratory quality assurance program by reviewing and verifying records and reports for the NPDES permit requirements.  Schedules laboratory and maintenance work, ordering of materials, and maintains records as directed by the Laboratory and Environmental Compliance Manager.  Ensure proper maintenance and repair work on all laboratory equipment.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Cleans and prepares laboratory equipment and glassware.  Maintains laboratory in a clean and orderly condition.  Observes safe work methods, practices and precautions; uses appropriate safety devices and equipment in accordance to laboratory standard operating procedures.  Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by related college level coursework.
Experience:  One (1) year experience in a laboratory or related position is desirable.
License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a current California Driver’s License.  Possession of a current California Water Environment Association Grade I Laboratory Analyst Certificate within eighteen (18) months of appointment.  Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate is desirable.

Laboratory Technician II:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent is required.  Completion of one (1) year of related college level coursework is preferred.
Experience:  Two (2) years of general laboratory experience is preferred.
License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of all certifications required for the Laboratory Technician I and possession of a current California Water Environment Association Grade II Laboratory Analyst certificate within eighteen (18) months.  Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate is desirable.

THE POSITIONS

The City of Livermore is currently accepting applications to fill one (1) Mechanic vacancy and one (1) Senior Mechanic vacancy in the Fleet Services Section of the Maintenance Division.

Mechanics at all levels perform maintenance and repair services on heavy/light City vehicles/equipment, such as fire trucks, automobiles, construction equipment, street sweepers, lawn mowers, stationary generators; and perform other duties as assigned.

DEFINITION 

Perform a variety of general maintenance services for parks and roadsides and other areas as assigned within the Town.   

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

• Clean up trash in and around Town-maintained park and roadside areas. 
• Operate a variety of equipment, including: half ton and three-quarter ton trucks, Cushman and golf cart (or similar) vehicles, blowers and other two-cycle equipment, and hand tools (i.e., shovel, rake, hoe, etc.). 
• Periodically groom sports fields and bocce ball courts with equipment and/or machinery provided. 
• Prepare baseball fields and bocce ball courts for league play. 
• Assist Maintenance Services personnel on assigned projects.  

• Perform duties within OSHA standards. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Knowledge of: 

• Construction and maintenance materials, methods, and terminology. 

• The use, purposes and maintenance of hand tools; and the operation of light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment in performing duties. 

Ability to: 

• Understand and follow oral and written directions. 
• Ability to work both in a supervised and unsupervised environment. 
• Perform manual labor for extended periods of time; and operate under tight deadlines. 
• Lift equipment and materials up to 50 lbs. 
• Work flexible hours. 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION 

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education: 

Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade. Graduation from high school or equivalent is preferred. 

Experience: 

Landscape and/or irrigation maintenance experience is desirable. 

LICENCE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S) 

Possession of a valid California State Driver’s License, or license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire and good driving record.

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator I – Facilities is responsible for assisting with the smooth operation of activities, programs, rentals, and special events at multiple Recreation Facilities. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, marketing prowess, and event planning and management expertise.

Mill Valley Recreation is a 7-day a week operation.

Recreation Coordinator I - Facilities schedule may include weekday, weekend, early morning and evening shifts. Schedule is subject to change depending on facility and supervisor needs. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Act as the primary point of contact for rental inquiries, promptly responding to emails, phone calls, and in-person inquiries regarding facility rentals.
• Facilitate the rental booking process by liaising with internal staff and external parties to schedule rental dates, coordinate setup requirements, and confirm rental agreements.
• Oversee the rental application process by providing interested parties with necessary documentation, rental agreements, and pricing details.
• Collect and review rental applications, ensuring all required information is complete and accurate.
• Provide timely updates to both renters and internal stakeholders regarding rental status, payment deadlines, and any changes to rental arrangements.
• Maintain organized records of rental bookings, payments, and rental agreements, ensuring compliance with rental policies and procedures. 
• Schedule and provide regular in-service training for facilities staff. 
• Plan, develop and implement programs and events.
• Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of scheduling and programming utilizing measurable outcomes.
• Assist in the development of policies, procedures, contracts, and manuals for facility users and staff.
• Provide assistance and guidance to facility users, anticipate and resolve problems, provide quality customer service.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
