DEFINITION

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Under general supervision or direction, the Operator I (Collection) is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater collections system, which includes the repair and maintenance of the sewer collection system and pump stations.
   
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Under general direction, supervises the operation of the Collections System of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on a designated shift to ensure processing and discharge of wastewater which complies with performance standards of State regulatory agencies; perform any combination of tasks involved with inspection, construction, repair, and preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of sanitary personnel; prepares logs and other records; performs maintenance tasks as required and other related duties as required.
   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

For the Collections System, ability to locate, detect cause, and correct sewer stoppages; detect and perform minor repairs and adjustments to sewer equipment; maintain pumps and related mechanical equipment; and report to work at any time during an emergency.  Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance work and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic’s tools with skill and accuracy; available for standby on sewer calls on a rotation basis; follow oral and written directions; maintain working relationships with other employees.  (See Physical Demands section as it relates to Essential Function Requirements.)

• Positions in this classification require one to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and stand for long periods of time. 
• Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects necessary to perform job functions. 
• Must be able to adapt and work day, swing or graveyard shift.
• Environmental Factors
  • Employees work primarily in the field and are exposed to noise, dust, pollen, grease, smoke, fumes, chemicals, noxious odors, gases, heat, and cold in confined workspaces and in all types of weather conditions. 
  • Employees may interact with upset staff, public and private representatives, and contractors in interpreting and enforcing regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
     

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Performs operation and maintenance on sanitary sewer pump station.
  • Responds to service requests regarding clogged mainline stoppages, mainline breaks, manholes and related structures.
  • Performs mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment.
  • Operates compressor, air gun tamper, backhoe and other related construction tools.
  • May undertake minor carpentry, plumbing, cement work and electrical.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance work, sweeping, sanding, painting.
  • Maintains routine and daily records.
     
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead a crew in the safe performance of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of sanitary sewers
  • Respond to service requests, unclog mainline stoppages, and keep records on sewer line cleanings and state of existing problems within the Collections System
  • Repair mainline breaks, replace broken pipe and reconnect pipe sections
  • Operate power rodder, jet truck, backhoe and TV equipment
  • Conduct periodic inspections and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to wastewater pumping stations and equipment
  • Keep daily logs and records on equipment; makes reports to the supervisor
  • Provide technical assistance and prescribe work methods and safety procedures to maintenance workers and utility workers
  • Inspect installation of new sewer lines, laterals and related structures; may study blueprints and specifications preparatory to inspection of construction project
  • Supervises the work of all operating personnel assigned to shift; trains and evaluates performance of shift employees, enforces safety procedures in conformance with policy of plant’s safety program.

The Parks Division provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of City parks and open spaces. The Recreation Division provides classes and programs for all ages and abilities. We aim to promote the use of safe, clean, and attractive facilities for enjoyment and quality of life for all ages and abilities. The Cemetery Division maintains 33,000 internment sites in a peaceful public park.
 
The Position: 
An incumbent in this classification is responsible for the safe operation of an assigned swimming pool, including supervising pool personnel, overseeing conduct of pool events, ensuring  collection and security of revenue, and attendant record keeping.  Candidates must be able to serve a variety of ages, abilities and needs in participants from diverse backgrounds with tact and professionalism.
 
As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
• Education equivalent to completion of the eleventh grade; and
• Three (3) years of experience in swimming pool management, swimming instruction, lifeguarding, or related activity; and
• Must be at least 17 years of age at time of application

Possible Substitution
• One (1) year of experience in lifeguarding and/or swimming instruction with the City of Santa Clara may be substituted for the required three (3) years of experience.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of the following certificates is required:
• A valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate or Completion of City of Santa Clara Learn to Swim Instruction Program; and
• A valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate; and
• In accordance with State of California law, a valid California Work Permit is required at time of appointment for candidates under the age of 18 who have not graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate of proficiency

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently seeking one full-time Animal Care Technician.  Under general supervision, Animal Care Technicians assist in the daily maintenance, feeding and care of animals housed in the county’s animal care facility including those subject to quarantine, injured or ill; assist with euthanizations; provide information to the public regarding lost or stray animals; assist with licensing, pet adoptions and community volunteer programs; and perform related work as assigned.  This class is a working level class in the animal care series.

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Building Inspector to work in our Community Development Department.  Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, the Building Inspector I/II inspects buildings, reviews plans and specifications in the enforcement of laws regulating the construction of buildings in the City of San Rafael, issues building permits and collects fees. 

Building Inspector I:  This class performs the more routine tasks and duties including inspections of residential construction and less complex commercial and industrial properties.  This class is typically used as an entry-level class.  Employees in this class may have limited or no directly related work experience.

Building Inspector II:  This class performs the full range of duties as assigned including all types, sizes and complexities of commercial, industrial and residential construction, including accessibility compliance.  Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.  Positions in this class shift away from office and group fieldwork to more defined, independent work.

Building Inspector II:

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent based on courses taken from an accredited education institution.  Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, AND
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a variety of building construction work or as a licensed general contractor.  A college degree in a construction-related subject or building inspection program may substitute for one year of the experience, AND
• At least two (2) years must be in an inspection capacity equivalent to a Building Inspector I for a government agency.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS (SPECIAL REQUIREMENT):

• Ability to obtain a California driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record; AND ONE of the following:

Building Inspector I:

• Must hold or obtain within one-year of hire an International Code Council (ICC) B1 Residential Building Inspector or B2 Commercial Building Inspector certification and must maintain certification through the entire term of employment in this job classification. 

Building Inspector II:

• At time of hire/promotion into this classification, must hold an International Code council (ICC) B1 Residential Building Inspector or B2 Commercial Building Inspector certification.  Within one (1) year of hire/promotion into this classification, must obtain one or more of the following ICC certifications:
  • P1 Residential Plumbing Inspector
  • M1 Residential Mechanical Inspector
  • E1 Residential Electrical Inspector
  • Or, the commercial equivalent.
• Must maintain both certifications through the entire term of employment in this job

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Child Care Director.  Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, this position will perform responsible work in administering and managing a state-funded preschool program.  The incumbent in this position will independently oversee the program and staff at Pickleweed Preschool located in East San Rafael.

• Assist with the establishment of the program budget
• Hire, train, and supervise staff
• Supervise timely completion of annual ECERS
• Supervise completion of DRDP assessments twice annually
• Supervise timely completion of parent surveys
• Supervise timely completion of two parent conferences annually
• Supervise timely ongoing child portfolios
• Supervise and implement systems for creating and maintaining regular written child observations
• Complete annual June 1st report to Department of Education
• Schedule staff and ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained
• Facilitate parent nights for families four times per year
• Liaison with parents and school districts
• Function as classroom instructor
• Approve Child Care Instructor II curriculum and plans
• Organize regular staff meetings
• Oversees referrals of children for assessment and special services
• Complete annual written evaluations of all staff

We are seeking an innovative and proactive Building Official with a positive, forward-thinking perspective. The Building Official will manage all building division functions (building permit issuance, plan check, and building inspections). The position reports to the Community Development Director. The City is experiencing a high volume of development applications, including residential, commercial, assisted living, and industrial projects. There is also significant interest in downtown revitalization. Some key initiatives on the horizon for the Building Official include:

• Implementation of the Thousand Oaks Boulevard Specific Plan, which is a top-priority downtown revitalization project that includes mixed-use development and focuses on an attractive, dynamic, and pedestrian-oriented environment
• Participate in developing and implementing a comprehensive land management system
• Leading staff to be innovative, collaborative, develop expertise, excel in community outreach, promote continuous improvement, and continue moving forward in an enthusiastic and professional manner

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced Aquatics Programs Specialist who is well versed with the development and effective implementation of aquatic programs tailored to different age groups and skill levels, such as swimming lessons, water aerobics, lifeguard training, and more. The Specialist will work out of the George M Silliman Community Activity Center. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Review the existing swim lesson program provided at the Aquatic Center, utilizing the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program materials, with the aim of pinpointing areas that could be enhanced.
2. Evaluate the current swim instructor handbook and offer recommendations that align with program requirements; integrating relevant materials from the American Red Cross Swim Lesson Program and feedback from staff to create a more cohesive handbook for swim instructors.
3. Assess the current swim instructor in-service practices and propose a recommended training plan and schedule for management and staff. This includes organizing 2-5 in-service sessions with staff to review new information and establish a structured training plan.                                                                                  

• Evaluate Current Practices: Conduct an analysis of the existing swim instructor in-service practices, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
• Needs Assessment: Determine the specific needs of the swim instructors and the program as a whole. Consider instructor feedback, observations, and any deficiencies noted in performance evaluations.
• Training Objectives: Define clear training objectives that align with the goals of the swim lesson program and the organization's standards. These objectives should address areas such as instructional techniques, safety protocols, emergency procedures, and customer service skills.
• Curriculum Development: Develop a comprehensive curriculum for the in-service training sessions. Incorporate relevant materials from the American Red Cross Swim Lesson Program, focusing on best practices for instruction and program management.
• Training Plan and Schedule: Create a detailed training plan and recommended schedule that outlines the topics to be covered in each session. Ensure that the schedule accommodates the availability of staff and allows for adequate time to cover each topic thoroughly.
• Session Content: Structure each in-service session to include a combination of theoretical instruction, practical demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Provide opportunities for staff to ask questions, participate in discussions, and practice new skills.
• Resource Materials: Compile a set of resource materials to support the training sessions, including instructional guides, lesson plans, videos, and reference materials from the American Red Cross Swim Lesson Program.
• Feedback Mechanism: Establish a feedback mechanism to gather input from staff following each training session. Use this feedback to assess the effectiveness of the training and make any necessary adjustments to future sessions.
• Implementation and Monitoring: Implement the training plan according to the established schedule, ensuring that all staff members have the opportunity to participate. Work with staff to ensure they are monitoring staff performance and progress throughout the training process, providing additional support and guidance as needed.
• Evaluation and Continuous Improvement: Conduct a final evaluation of the training program to assess its overall effectiveness and impact on staff performance. Use the findings to inform staff of training initiatives and make continuous improvements to the swim instructor’s in-service practices.                        

     4. Collaborate with program staff to facilitate the implementation of the DigiQuatics software, specifically  focusing on the swim lesson program module to ensure its success and staff training opportunities.

    5. Support staff in addressing any needs within the swim lesson program to enhance its effectiveness and boost participant enrollment as required.
