The San Lorenzo Valley Water District is located in the coastal redwoods approximately 10 miles northeast of Santa Cruz, CA. The SLV Water District is a Local Water Utility established in 1941 and serves communities in the San Lorenzo Valley, including Boulder Creek, Brookdale, Ben Lomond, Lompico, Zayante, Scotts Valley, Manana Woods and Felton.
With a network of distribution lines, pump stations and reservoirs spanning over 190 miles, SLVWD delivers reliable, safe and high-quality water at an equitable price to more than 7,900 connections approximately 35,000 customers. The District is committed to providing outstanding customer service, managing and protecting the environmental health of the aquifers and watersheds, and ensuring the fiscal vitality of the district.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Director of Finance located in Boulder Creek, CA. The Director of Finance supervises, oversees and manages the activities and operations of the Finance Department including financial reporting, general accounting, purchasing, warehousing and inventory control; budget preparation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, debt administration, revenue management, administration of invested funds and performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications – Demonstrated Knowledge and Performance in the Following Areas
- Principles and practices of financial analysis.
- Principles and practices of public agency finance, including general and governmental accounting, auditing, and reporting functions.
- Fundamentals of investment management, monitoring of assets, and required reporting.
- Cash flow management and financial projections for planning and decision-making.
- Advanced accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Advanced principles and practices of public agency budget development and administration and sound financial management policies and procedures;
- Principles and practices of effective management and supervision including planning, organizing, reviewing work, and training and evaluating staff.
- Computer applications related to accounting, budgeting, and fiscal management.
- Principles, practices, and trends of public and business administration.
- Applicable Federal, State, local, and district laws rules, regulatory codes, ordinances, and procedures relevant to the assigned area of responsibility;
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Experience in the water utility industry is a plus
- Knowledge of California water utility regulations and laws is a plus
Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
- 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, or auditing preferably in governmental/ municipal agency
