THE DEPARTMENT

The Pacifica Police Department is responsible for all functions related to law enforcement and crime prevention and is made up of several divisions that carry out specialized duties to help the department perform as a cohesive whole. Staff includes thirty-eight (38) full-time positions consisting of the Police Chief, 2 Captains, 7 Sergeants, 6 Corporals, 17 Officers, a Records Supervisor, a Records Clerk, an Evidence Technician, a .5 Property Clerk, 2 .5 grant-funded Community Service Officers and an Administrative Assistant.

THE POSITION

The current opening is for a full-time position and is under the direction of the Police Records Supervisor. The Police Records Clerk will provide a wide variety of clerical, typing, and computer data entry tasks related to Police records; maintaining accurate Police statistics, records, and files; conducting business and transactions with the public, in person and by telephone; is available for occasional night and/or weekend duty as required, and performing other related work as required.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Responsible for all Police statistical record keeping.
• Perform a variety of data entry, typing, and clerical work related to all phases of the Police operation,  such as preparing forms, ordering department supplies, and making appointments.
• Prepare correspondence and compile information for reports.
• Direct requests to proper agencies and departments.
• Enter, update, and maintain data while ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of all information.
• Coordinate service of subpoenas.
• Compile data for Public Records Act requests.
• Approve and prepare reports for the District Attorney.
• Assist the public both in person and by telephone, requiring knowledge of rules and procedures.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

SJPL is recruiting a Volunteer Coordinator to administer the library's volunteer programs, organize volunteer activities, and provide support and resources to staff who work directly with volunteers on-site and virtually. The role focuses on drawing upon volunteers' knowledge and motivations to strengthen library events and services. The position will coordinate volunteer assignments and use various tools to develop, evaluate, and promote Library volunteer opportunities.

The Volunteer Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating and leading the library's volunteer recruitment and recognition efforts throughout the year, as well as overseeing the volunteer screening process, including scheduling, and conducting LiveScan background checks.

In addition, the Volunteer Coordinator will serve as a liaison for the San Jose Public Library Foundation , who frequently works with corporate donors to develop group volunteering opportunities at SJPL.

This position will:

• Identify, create, and update training materials and procedural guides for both volunteers and staff.
• Plan, coordinate, and lead volunteer events and community outreach opportunities.
• Develop promotional recruitment and storytelling campaigns to increase the number of volunteers.
• Develop recognition activities for the volunteer program.
• Interview, screen, place, and onboard volunteers.
• Utilize Better Impact, the City's online volunteer management software, to collect and analyze statistics on volunteers, and train and support staff in using these tools.
• Collect and analyze statistics on volunteer programs and trainings
• Assist with developing system-wide volunteer programs.
• Collaborate with partner organizations and stakeholders, such as the San José Public Library Foundation, to facilitate volunteer requests and placements.

The Deputy Director supports the management and administration of the Recreation Department and directs a team of four Recreation Supervisors and their respective divisions and facilities. They work with the Director to establish and refine best practices for the creation, implementation, and delivery of recreation programming and services. Additionally, the incumbent will assist with the development and coordination of the City’s Parks and Recreation Commission, as well as its Arts Commission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Including but not limited to):

•  Assists Director in supervision and administrative control over the organization, staffing, and operation of the Recreation Department and the 29,000 square foot Community Center.
• Engages in strategic thinking to develop and implement goals, objectives, priorities and policies.
• Provides staff assistance to the Director; provides interdepartmental support on various projects; develops and recommends modifications to recreation programs, facilities, policies, and procedures as appropriate.
• Conducts and supervises wide variety of special projects including policy analysis and development, program and facility development and customer service enhancement.
• Prepares a variety of regular and special reports and records on operations and activities related to the Arts & Recreation Department; develops professional service contracts, requests for qualification and proposal and completes grant applications and proposals.
• Responds to and resolves citizen inquiries and complaints and controversial issues.
• Represents the Department and the Director on various occasions and serves on a variety of internal and external committees. Acts in the absence of the Director.

The City of Berkeley is seeking a temporary (not to exceed 6 months) Manager of Aging Services! In this role, you will oversee four major Aging Services program areas, including senior centers, nutrition, transportation, and case management, as well as supervision of the division’s management team. Duties include planning, analyzing, and evaluating programs/services division-wide.

The Manager will also oversee Division budgets ($6.1 million), oversee management of Division facilities, and ensure the development and implementation performance goals and objectives using the newly developed results-based accountability framework. This position has the opportunity to coordinate and facilitate strategic planning initiatives, including the City’s Age-Friendly Action Plan, and partner with internal Departments/programs and community organizations to provide services to the older adult community, and further strengthen community resilience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in social science, public health, social work, business or public administration or a related field, and five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience involving program planning and administration, preferably in programs for aging populations or closely related social services or public health program, of which at least two (2) years included supervisory responsibility.

A Master's Degree in any of the above disciplines is desirable.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required. Must attend evening and weekend meetings as required.

The County of Yuba is currently accepting Full-Time applications for the position of Office Assistant. The current vacancy exists in the Probation Department. PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/COMMUNITY SERVICES OFFICER

The Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) performs a variety of law enforcement support duties with the majority of responsibilities involving enforcement of parking rules and regulations in an assigned area while driving a parking enforcement scooter or car or walking on foot. Duties include  reporting defective street signs, pavement markings and parking meters; providing information to the public concerning city geography, location of buildings, public transit stations and stops, and city functions and offices, impounding and providing for the storage of vehicles as necessary, responding to low priority city ordinance violations, assisting with simple evidence collection as needed, assisting with report taking as necessary, and performing related work as required to assist the patrol staff.   

The PEO will use a computer to make entries, update and make corrections to information and keep a variety of detailed logs and files, while also using a variety of law enforcement communication equipment.  In addition to issuing warnings and citations, the PEO may testify in court regarding citations issued and other events.  These duties will be performed under general supervision and when assigned, working with other staff. The majority of the workday will be spent on the field (i.e., outside) in various weather conditions.

A typical schedule is four 10-hour days per week including weekends, nights, and holidays.  The PEO is a physically demanding position as stooping, lifting, kneeling and reaching overhead and forward is required daily.

This position performs a variety of complex and specialized technical work in the Cooperative Extension Department as the primary administrative support for the 4-H youth development program. Assists in coordinating and implementing assigned program tasks and special events that require a thorough knowledge of the terminology, procedures, and practices, business letter writing and report preparation. Designs and presents general and technical correspondence, and promotional materials; designs and develops forms, tracking systems, databases, and spreadsheets. Supplies individuals with information, copies of documents and records, etc. The position is at-will, temporary, part-time and scheduled for twenty-four (24) hours per week. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Establishes files; maintains accurate and detailed records; verifies the accuracy of information; researches discrepancies and notifies appropriate personnel or agency.
• Word processes and proofreads a variety of documents; enters a variety of departmental data into the computer; retrieves information as needed; operates various printers.
• Compiles data for use in reports and/or managerial decision-making.
• Performs routine clerical duties as required, including but not limited to typing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, retrieving files, entering computer data, completing and processing various forms, maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, assembling materials, faxing information, answering the telephone, greeting and assisting customers / clients, processing mail, etc.

DEFINITION:

Under general supervision of the Community and Recreation Services Director, the Community Services Manager administers and manages the Youth and Family Services (YFS) and Homeless Programs of the Community and Recreation Services Department for the City of Union City. YFS services include support for youth violence intervention and prevention through mentoring, employment, outreach, case management, individual and family counseling, parent education, and crisis support. Homeless Programs provide direct case management services to unhoused individuals and families.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

This is a single position management classification assigned overall management and coordination of service delivery for the Community Services including Youth & Family Services, Homelessness Programs and other community-based social services. The Community Services Manager is responsible for achieving defined fiscal and programmatic objectives including but not limited to identifying, preparing, and managing grant proposals, budget, and performance reports for federal, state, and local funding.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Manages and implements a delivery system of social services to youth, families and individuals in crises and the unhoused including but not limited to: at-risk youth, dependent children, homelessness support, sustenance and nutrition support, victims of child/adult abuse, domestic violence, and those experiencing mental health and substance abuse.
• Develops, integrates and oversees new social services programs into division/department administrative structure.
• Writes effective and persuasive grant proposals to secure funding to support City projects, programs and activities.
• Prepares performance reports for federal, state and local funding, and program performance and other reports as required by the City.
• Ensures timely and accurate use and reporting of grant funds consistent with purpose(s) outlined by the funding source, and communication of proposed variances to use of funds as necessary.
• Manages, trains, motivates and evaluates a team of multi-disciplinary staff. Provides overall technical and management direction/coordination to personnel in assigned area of responsibility.
• Works collaboratively with public, private and non-profit organizations, community members and other stakeholders including County and State level regional bodies and taskforces to build partnerships and coalitions to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of programs and service delivery methods.
• Conducts presentations of programs and services provided to public, groups and other agencies.
• Serves as a departmental liaison with community social and mental health agencies, local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, the faith community, community organizations and non-profit organizations, the school district, and others to adequately assess and represent community needs.
• Participates in department, city and community meetings as necessary.
• Conducts assessments to identify appropriate resources and provide referral services (secondary duty).

This is a journey-level class in the Police Records Specialist classification series responsible for maintaining information in specialized departmental databases, preparing and assembling reports, processing payments, and preparing and processing subpoenas, requests for information, and other documents. All activities are performed within specified legal guidelines. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
